Schwartz, Thompson, Cory, Peterson. End mass incarceration!
Care to list the other judges running on the “soft on crime” platform so I can know whom I should cast my vote against? I’d like to believe there are consequences for criminal behavior in the city I’m trying to raise children in.
I always forget there’s republicans in this town until I come on this blog. Are you AV rated too
go back to california
NOPE. Nope. I was going to gloss over this nonsense, but no. I’ve been voting straight-ticket Democrat since the Clinton administration. I caucused for Bernie Sanders, I’ve been to rallies for gay pride and LGBTQ+ rights since the 90’s. But this is the one thing that the modern Democratic party has deeply missed the boat on; crime affects all of us. We need a system that actually deters criminal behavior because LOOK AT WHAT HAPPENS when you remove criminal accountability from any segment of the population, most specifically the grifter-in-chief and his co-conspirators. The law needs to apply to everyone equally or it means nothing. That’s why we suddenly have a rash of unregistered, uninsured cars on our streets. It’s why the Emoluments Clause means nothing, why the Hatch Act means nothing, why small businesses all over the county are being overrun with theft just like California, etc. Playing Merrick Garland with criminals just turns you into a doormat for further abuse. This shouldn’t be controversial and it sure as hell shouldn’t be political.
Witness Oregon, where drugs were decriminalized for a few years and where race riots and mass violence were tolerated. In an amazingly short period of time, Oregon’s cities turned from quirky but safe communities into dangerous, vagrancy-infested, crime-ridden hellholes. All in the name of “compassion”.
Criminal laws don’t emerge in a vaccum; they’re enacted to keep the law-abiding safe. Reluctance to enforce criminal laws creates chaos. And once the genie is out of the bottle, it becomes nearly impossible to put it back inside.
The biggest problem is the DA’s offense dealing cases so low.
The judges have the ultimate say at sentencing and at entry of plea. 2020 brought the weakest crop of judges to the bench we’ve ever seen. You want stiffer sentences, get judges with some backbone.
