Charges of misdemeanor domestic battery against Judge Jasmin Lilly-Spells were honorably discharged in March, but here’s an in-depth look at what happened. [8NewsNow]
While the A’s stadium bill is in its third day of a special session, fans in Oakland are set to do a reverse boycott. [CBS Sports]
Meanwhile, the Vegas Golden Knights have their first chance to clinch the Stanley Cup Championship tonight! Are you going to the game? What do you think about those ticket prices?
One of our commenters is looking for a pleasant place to work. Where do you think the most pleasant place to work in the Las Vegas legal community is?
Oakland As stadium–watching the Legislative s**t show. What a disgrace. The bill has so many holes that it like Swiss cheese and lacking in details. Absolutely terrible. The Las Vegas Visitors Convention Authority Steve Hill is promoting this monstrosity yet they are not the developer. I can only hope it goes away. Vegas can do better.
The amount of time given to these two lobbyists is appalling.

The Legislature needed to hire a consultant to critically analyze the proposal for the As Stadium. They are out of their league against Arguero from Applied Analysis. However, the presentation is so weak and it so obviously flawed. It is a sham on the taxpayers.
I didn't know much about Jeremy Aguero before this. I've watched all three of his "presentations" on the stadium. The "analysis" comes off half-baked like a high school senior that threw a power point together the night before a project was due. Dallas Harris took 3 minutes to do basic math on his attendance projections and shredded him by showing that Augero's projections weren't merely unlikely, but impossible (would have required attendance in excess of 100%). Is this normal for him? I also had previously assumed that he was trained as an economist. He has an undergraduate degree in hotel management and a law degree, both from UNLV. Why do the powers that be in this town treat him like the second coming of David Hulme? Does he make his money renting out his perceived expertise and credentials? Kind of reminds me of some of the whores who make a living as expert witnesses in district court. These are honest questions because I find him to be quite underwhelming in this process.
We’re attorneys. There’s nothing pleasant about this occupation. Your colleagues will knife you in the back for a dollar, mentorship is rare if it exists at all, the clients are whiney and annoying, and the judges are incompetent on a good day. Just do your job and find your happiness outside of work.
Absolutely true that attorneys are terrible managers. They play favorites destroying morale, change rules at a drop of the hat, and while they say they want open lines of communication you had better not suggest that they change their ways or they will bite your head off. All firms are dysfunctional it just friends on how much you can take.
This is 12:48 with one addition. I sometimes see briefs that use "lead" and "plead" as the past tense, maybe because the past tense of read is read or the metal lead is pronounced "led." That's just wrong, don't do that.
From Grammerly. I couldn't get access to the AP Style guide.
"But the bottom line is that pleaded is the commonly recognized past tense of plead, and pled is the form that can sometimes be used instead of it, especially within the North American and Scottish legal systems. If you have to follow a certain style guide, you work in the media, or you simply want to lay the issue to rest, you’d be better served by using pleaded." https://www.grammarly.com/blog/pleaded-pled/
I am more confused than ever.

Re: Lilly-Spells. I feel sorry that her personal business has been hung out for all to see. I get it though, she's a judge, and public should know if a judge exhibits any conduct unbecoming of the office. The article about her points out Abatangelo's DV arrest and how it led to a disciplinary action against him. Wonder why the article made no mention of Judge Miley. Wasn't she involved in a DV situation too? Whatever happened with that? Was she investigated?
I remember when all that crap happened with Judge Miley. Her son was driving, she got upset at him for something and hit him (slapped/punched/don'tknow) and he texted his dad (the same Attorney Edward Miley who was reportedly choking his family dog while drunk and body slamming Judge Miley about 9-10 years prior to Judge Miley hitting her son. I don't know what happened with their case, but they got divorced and probably should have done so sooner.
Joel Henriod – Gone from Lewis Roca
Wow. he was Polsenberg's sidekick for many years. Where did he go?
Answered my own question. Looks like he is on his own.
On his own? He should start putting a fund away for that rainy day when OBC comes calling.
I always really liked Joel, met him when I was a baby lawyer and he always seemed like good people.
He is a great guy best of luck Joel!
“Why was she mad at the PlayStation” reminds me of movie the jerk – “he hates these cans!” Haha
Lowkey great movie.

Agreed, this bill should have been dropped on the first day of session so it could be vetted. Anything less is a SCAM

Whatever they paid Aguero was money well spent.

Don't forget how terrible most attorneys are as managers
@12:00 this is a micro-aggression and is very triggering.

Depends
There are some good mentors left. You just have to find them.
Telles started with a simple battery and look where he's at
I just noticed the news reports said “pleaded” not guilty – why not “pled” – not discussing politics but why not paste tense
Op back I googled this before posting so I’m aware of dictionary def I guess my question is what should I be using
For a long time I used "pled," but now I've started using "pleaded." I think either is acceptable, frankly.
The judge I clerked for (not in this state) mandated that we use "pleaded." It looks like Bryan Garner also says that "pleaded" is the better word: https://www.michiganradio.org/arts-culture/2018-02-25/the-case-of-pleaded-v-pled
I agree that to my knowledge either one is fine, but due to my training I only use "pleaded." I would just make sure you're consistent.
The queen's English or American?
It is sure nice to have a nuanced discussion, even on this fine point, without all the politics. Re: the topic, "pled" sounds more "past-tensy."

The sooner part is absolutely true. They reconciled after he killed the dog and had a baby boy. She now lives in Texas.
"They reconciled after he killed the dog and had a baby boy." Ed Miley gave birth to a baby boy?
Stefany carried the child. Ed killed the dog.
Don't forget Edward Mikey screamed at the cops who were arresting him that they needed to start arresting better looking hookers. Their poor children.
