A couple random observations:
– Not shocked that Conine lost, but shocked that the margin was so big.
– Settelmeyer was as natural as a candidate for NV-02 as you could ask for and still couldn’t overcome Trump endorsing someone else
– Greg Kidd needs to stop blowing money on these vanity runs and start a PAC or something
– Can’t believe “Indicted Rick” (this is what he calls himself) only got 1% of the vote.
So happy Danny Tarkanian lost. PLEASE STOP RUNNING!
It’s funny that Danny and Zach got pretty much the same vote share but for very different reasons.
He gets an “A” for effort and perseverance.
Not shocked by the margin by which Conine lost. I think he thought his ads were clever, but he was really unlikeable as a result. So smug. Such a punchable face.
Bummed about Pete Thunell, really liking him as a judge and sad to see him go.
Pete’s a good guy, would love to still see him back on the bench.
I practice in front of Goodey often, I’ll miss her in Justice Court. She always does a good job.
I wish she had run for another department. I would like to have her and Pete around.
Frustrating how will we ever get and keep good male judges. We need a balance.
Quit spooking them off. They are easily startled, but they’ll soon be back…and in greater numbers.
maybe we should just force all the female judges to grow a penis, because apparently that’s what they need for folks like you to respect them. Penises for everyone!!

He will be fined by NVSOS. Its almost automatic.
With almost half of Letizia’s candidates losing outright in the primary, I wonder if some are regretting their decision to hire him rather than putting that money to better use.
Which of clients lost in primary?? Thunell is only one I know of.

I don’t vote in Henderson, but Lance seems like a very good guy. Sorry he did not fare better.

Who is the best elder abuse or HIPPA expert these days? I have a case that could use someone good. An elderly individual is being isolated from his spouse and the facility is freely sharing information with others, one of which is not even family. Any recommendations?
Depends on whether you’re looking to pursue it civilly or criminally.
There’s no private cause of action re: HIPPA, but you could try HCQC and APS.
I advise my clients to not contact APS. If APS, who has very limited resources and power to investigate, ends up doing nothing, the abuser will rely on that decision as a sword and shield. I have been involved in several cases of significant abuse where APS was called and ended up either doing nothing, or worse, saying there was no evidence of abuse.
What about contacting the AGs office?
Is anyone upset over the lack of coverage regarding the election? While now its on the front page of the RJ, leading up to the election there was basically no news coverage or no news articles anywhere about the election. And it was really difficult to figure out where to go vote.
Definitely a quieter one. No Senate or presidential primary. Governor on R side was uncontested and was virtually uncontested on the D side. Even the R AG race was kinda a snooze. Unless you live in the second congressional district or you had a really strong opinion on Nicole vs. Zach, not much to get up for.
Henderson parks was a big one
But it turned out to be not much of a contest, just a bunch of anti-tax fools railing about something they didn’t understand online. Didn’t it pass by more than 70%?
Anyway the Henderson vote gave me a little bit of hope for our democracy. I genuinely believed most people were just voting without any knowledge about the issues or candidates, but Henderson rejected two tax increases last election cycle for libraries and the fire department (or maybe it was the police?), so it’s clear that a large number of people did their research on the difference between the tax issue this year and the proposed tax increases in previous years and understood the distinction.
Agreed on finding out where to vote. The county had a link to their webpage showing where to vote, but it didn’t actually show anything. I was able to eventually find it, but it was a big miss by the county. I’m sure there were plenty of people who looked, couldn’t find it easily, and just decided not to vote.
Did you want them to take you by the hand and lead you? During the lead-up to Election Day, there were poll workers in malls and other ballot drop-off and voting locations, hard to miss.
The sample ballots had a huge fold-out map showing voting sites. For me, I simply went to the same location where my precinct has been voting for the last 20 years, and lo and behold, I voted there. [Only once.]
I spent 15 minutes filling out the ballot, put it in the self-addressed stamped envelope that came with the ballot and left it on my mailbox for the mailwoman to pick up. Truly could not have been easier.
I spent about the same amount of time, but then I drove over to the permanent polling place near my house and dropped off my entire family’s ballots. Yes, I could have put them in the mailbox, but this way I knew they would be counted quickly. Bonus: I got another I Voted sticker.

You mean did I, a person authorized by the voter, return the ballot prepared by the voter to a ballot drop box established in the county, as authorized by NRS 293.269923? And did I do so within the 3d day of receipt, or before the deadline for returning the ballot, as required by NRS 293.269923(c)?

The Nevada Independent and the Nevada Current provided a decent amount of coverage of the primary races, especially the down ticket races. I suspect they will do the same for the general.
Both are left leaning, the Nevada Independent is a bit more subtle about it.

How so? Many thousands of dollars were spent mailing every registered voter a pamphlet that listed all of the voting locations.
The RJ has a candidate page; I was surprised how many candidates didn’t bother to answer the questions. It mattered to my vote – regardless of politics, the point is to provide information to voters and if they can’t do that what will they be like as elected officials?

How are cases and assignments changing now? Is Gall still going all civil? Ganz? Goodey? When will we learn??
I heard yesterday (building on the Kishner out of “B” cases) that perhaps they are also going to stop sending “B” cases to Williams. Kind of kills that whole 16th Floor vibe.
Likely Hardy and Gall are going all-civil. Beyond that it’s still up in the air, and subject to change again in January.
Hardy is not a good choice for business court, imho. Why not Reynolds?
They’re probably waiting for Judge Quagge to take over business court. He went to business once.

Yikes. I’d say about a 75% chance you work for H&S or are LDS, or both.
I’ve actually been pleasantly surprised with Reynolds. He is efficient with his cases and makes tough calls when warranted.

Hooge finishing third with nine percent is, frankly, the kind of result that should prompt a serious conversation about what the bar’s endorsement apparatus is actually worth. I have, as a Lied Award recipient and someone who has observed this bench from multiple vantage points, never once seen name recognition lose to competence at the primary stage when the electorate is this diffuse. Goodey’s margin isn’t a statement about Thunell. It’s a statement about the voters. The fee burn on the wrong Dept. 26 appointment will be borne by litigants for a decade – any practitioner calculating their own caseload there already knows what I mean.
Prior to the election, The Independent posted on their website that “Hooge was seen as a distant third by the panel, with his reputation as bar counsel not great among attorneys.” Attorneys loved Rob Bare, but do not like Daniel Hooge.
Apparently attorneys and voters do not care for him with the lack of funds raised and 9% in votes.

Can’t wait for Goodey to come in and check up the mess that is edjc. Her leadership roles in JC need to be put to use to clean things up. Maybe she’ll run for chief !!!
