Eastside Cannery was only opened for 12 years. It wasn’t luxurious, but it was a nice property. It was always definitely out of place on Boulder Highway. Strange decision to ever build it.

I lived behind there when I moved here in 06, back when that property was Nevada Palace, which was an appropriately little cheap casino for the area it was in. Couldn’t wait to move from that side of town, and could never understand building a luxury hotel there either.

Knowing this town, they’ll just implode it and let it sit vacant and ugly for 5 years until they build something bigger and shinier and more unsuccessful.

I think the plan is to build housing there, which makes sense in this market.

The kids on their electric scooters. . . . . death on wheels and clearly no one has taught them how to be safe. Blasting at 30mph in the bike lane going the WRONG effing way.

This is just one of MANY MANY deaths to come of these kids on their scooters.

This just happened to me today on the way back to the office after lunch. High school kid on a scooter in the bike lane headed against traffic, with headphones. He could have easily been run over and killed.

Yeah, drivers don’t need a lecture on being careful. Parents need a lecture on acquiring these little missiles, and sending their little ones out into the streets with no guidance, discipline, or supervision. When something goes wrong, it’s everyone else’s fault. Three steps removed from leaving their kid in a hot car. People, especially kids, are out riding electric bikes and scooters on the road at night with no lights or reflectors, and running people off of sidewalks. I have the need for speed and love to go fast, but it has to be done carefully in an environment suitable for the activity.

For sure parents and kids bear responsibility but so do drivers. An article recently posited that Vegas is the 3rd most dangerous US city for pedestrians with a pedestrian death rate of 3.41 per 100,000. And it’s not like this is new. There is a steady stream of pedestrian deaths every year. Maybe part of it is the fact that we’re in the desert and car culture pervades. But fact of matter remains that drivers have some control and responsibility too. For example, many drivers have no idea that there are no u-turns or passing in a school zone during school zone hours. https://www.leg.state.nv.us/nrs/nrs-484b.html#NRS484BSec363 but i see a steady stream of people violating that every day in the dropoff line. I guess what I’m saying is I think we can all do a little better regardless of whether we’re in the car or walking–except for you. You are already perfect and none of this was meant for you, so just go on about your day and let this message sink in with the people for whom it is intended.

Yes, I’ll leave you alone so you can teach those who hunger for your wisdom. You are a fountain of never-before uttered truths. Funny, seems like the people making U-turns, passing and otherwise causing chaos in school zones are…wait for it… the parents of the kids we are supposed to be protecting. The irony is palpable. So sanctimonious, and the rules are for others, because they are “in a hurry.” Sound like anyone you know? I wonder if any of those pedestrian deaths are attributable to careless and reckless pedestrians. No, it couldn’t be, I say, as I brake (since I am perfect) to avoid a group of Fremont zombies careening into the street against the light, still drunk from the night before, on my way to court in the morning. I will just let this sink in with the people for whom it is intended.

They’re menaces. Kids on e-bikes, e-scooters, mini motorbikes, and dirt bikes all over the road, sidewalks and parks. And when they inevitably get hurt or die their irresponsible parents blame others. Keep your damn 10-year-old from driving a vehicle at 35 mph without a helmet.

Many of these bikes aren’t even street legal and arguably those that are should be restricted to people with driver’s licenses.

They need to get the ebikes off the street and sidewalks. Remember the Scooters with the small cc’s. What happened to them? The could barely keep up with traffic. They are gone now. It was because of the registration and insurance? Many of the ebikes go 35 mph like the small scooters.

I liked the East Side Cannery much better than Sam’s Town and I am sorry it did not prosper. I used to recommend that visiting friends and relatives stay there. The rooms were akin to the Red Rock Resort rooms, while the rooms at Sam’s Town are dated, with paper thin blankets.

This is exactly the kind of thing that shouldn’t get thwacked. Is it juvenile? Sure. But it’s funny. And we all need some damn levity in our lives, especially in this profession and especially people like you 1:50pm. Relax. And don’t give me “it’s a law blog” because exactly zero topical blogs on the internet have a comment section that’s stays on topic 100% of the time. Happy weekend, my legal brethren. Stay safe out there. Especially 1:26 with his girlfriend’s—condition…

Not a bad sign for Jim and Todd. Is Jordan a good lawyer? Sure. But never really one making rain which can become an issue for a local bigfish firm as opposed to a more regional/national firm. PB is not hurting for work or the ability to recruit attorneys. They are fine.

I am sure the Smiths were very profitable for PB (as most attorneys are for their law firms) so they will for sure be losing some $.

Why are you so certain about that compared to comparable counsel. Why were the Smiths (individually or combined) more profitable than comparable counsel with like experience? We as lawyers tend to believe that we are one of a kind. We are not. None of us are. Todd is a great lawyer; however clients could hire other excellent lawyers for similar costs. If Todd had a medical condition and PB needed to go hire a great lawyer(s) to pick up the slack, they could. I wish the Smiths all of the best at BHFS; however PB will have another associate/partner/of counsel billing machine pick up where they left off.
