"The State Bar of Nevada has begun its annual elections for members of the Board of Governors. Elections began Friday, May 11, 2018, and end at 11:59 p.m. on Monday, June 11, 2018, Pacific Time."

When do they announce the results? I can hardly wait for all the anonymous cowards on this blog to eat crow when EVERY. SINGLE. INCUMBENT is re-elected.

The election was obviously rigged. Based on what I've read on the blog for the past few months, I expect to see hundreds, if not thousands, of votes for the challengers.

Yes, because each comment on a given topic has to have been made by unique persons. That's the only logical explanation.

11:25 AM either doesn't know anything or is deliberately trolling this blog. The incumbents crushed it. The whiners on this blog are loud, but few in number.

I'm glad to see that Andrew got in. I may or may not feel that way about Coffing. I was hoping for one or two fresh faces, and that's essentially what happened.

Two powerful female attorneys who are frequently discussed here:

Paola Armeni vs. Tracy Eglet.

Compare. Contrast. Discuss.

This is a terrible idea and seems to only invite unnecessary and useless attacks on both Paola and Tracy and likely powerful female attorneys in general.

I like them both and have dealt with each on a professional level. Both are impressive in their own right.

There is no reason to compare female attorneys in a sexist way, i.e. their looks, personal histories, etc. But I would vote for Paola any day.

There are plenty of reasons to compare female attorneys in a sexist way. They just aren't good reasons.

The BOG results don't matter. Most incumbents are simply re-elected. And any new people who happen to be elected will be of the same mind-set of those already in office, or will shortly fall under their sway.

The people rallying for change, such as on this blog, are not the type of people who seek a BOG seat.Or if they do, they are not elected. I know of no outsider on the ballot who promises to sweep in with a typhoon of radical changes. Instead, those who are elected fit into two categories:

1. The most common is the complacent, entitled ivory tower incumbent who sends out form letters extolling his/her great accomplishments, with the cliche added to the last paragraph that there is still more to be done. And apparently whatever else needs to be done cannot be accomplished unless we return this person to office. But, as to the so-called accomplishments, they are either grossly exaggerated and distorted, or they are of no real concern or benefit to the rank-and-file members.

2. The second category is the person who wants to be elected, and they are usually supported by current BOG members, so they will remain a safe establishment vote.

So, despite our hopes and prayers, nothing ever changes.

Meet the new boss. Same as the old boss.

Those who are elected fit into two categories

You must further understand how the BOG works. Given the number of members and the rotating terms, it takes several elections to bring about real change. Those elected may only have a limited initial impact and will need to be reelected several times to bring about real change. On top of this, the real pressure to make changes or keep the status quo begins with the Supreme Court. Most policy changes are brought about because of questions raised by the Court, not questions or issues raised by BOG members.

But when it comes to random audits, the BOG seems to have jumped the gun because ultimately the NSC quashed the idea. Perhaps the BOG was catering to what they perceived Bar Leadership(concerning attorney discipline) wanted to see come about.

Also, 12:41, while recognizing that the incumbents keep getting re-elected and that any isolated reform minded newbie would have a difficult time making any real impact, makes the broader point that no such candidates emerge.

From this blog, and other rumblings, we would assume such people often run, but they don't. Those who run are often encouraged by their status quo friends who are already on the panel, like 12:41 suggests, or occasionally perhaps by Supreme Court justices and/or other powerful and influential factions, as 2:46 suggests.

Yet nowhere in any of that are there candidates who are solely recruited by rank-and-file attorneys who want protection from onerous over reach or who want change for the greater good for the foot soldiers within the Bar.In other words, no one to fight for the little people, as the old cliché goes.

And yes, the mass letters sent in support of election or re-election, never takes a stand in favor of the rank-and-file members on issues of concern to them, like the random audits, mandatory malpractice(which, as an aside, makes a lot more sense to me than random audits), etc. The letters are always identical in their comical sameness–I am great. I've accomplished all this. But there is more to be done. Since only I can do it, return me to power.

Some of what the BOG has been involved in throughout past years is positive, like attempting to control attorney advertising and clamping down on unauthorized practice of law, etc.

Yet, as to attorney advertising, even though they are required to submit the ads before hand for approval, the ads to me seem just as bad and undignified as ever. So, although intentions may have been quite good, this really did not do much to insulate the public from harm or from being duped or mislead. Nor did any of this reduce the long term financial harm to non-advertising personal injury attorneys. The ads still run with full vigor and appear as successful as ever.

Ad to unauthorized practice of law, this is a serious issue and the public needs to be protected. Yet I'm not sure the Bar is currently pursuing with the committment they were a few years back when they were serving some District Court Cease And Desist Orders.

Follow through in all areas of life is critical. Once something constructive is accomplished, one should not simply move on to other issues. Funding and a Committee needed to remain in operation to aggressively monitor and pursue those who are engaged in the unauthorized practice of Law. Perhaps I'm wrong and this is still being aggressively pursued, but I'm told that efforts have abated with each passing cycle of the panel.

For me, BOG chatter is soooooo boring. Honestly, it makes me sad. It feels like there are a few folks who are obsessed with the topic, and so they post and re-post. The BOG election is over. I think its time to let it go.

Let's stick with what works: Any big verdicts? Did anybody get defensed? Any chatter about hirings/firings? Firms going under or firms coming to town? Anybody running for judge that absolutely should not be? Where did ATMS end up?
