In Las Vegas Justice Court, Melissa De La Garza got more than 50% of the primary vote to be elected outright, while Elana Graham beat James Dean Leavitt, but will still have to face off against him this fall since Vinny Ginn took such a large portion of the vote. [RJ]
So the campaign to oust incumbent BOG was 75% successful? So its a wait and see game from here on out. No surprises in the Primaries. Something tells me that Laxalt is going to pull it off and win in November. Everything out there says Sisolak shoud win, but….
I'll go against conventional wisdom and argue that Chris G would have had a better shot against Laxalt. But be that as it may, this will likely be a 52/48 type of outcome and who is on top will depend entirely on who does the better job with turnout.

I lean democrat, I have been perfectly fine with Sandoval (certainly had issues with him, but I've gotta admit he's like Teflon, and all my grievances kinda slide away), but I am so bummed about our options for governor. In my barely informed opinion, Laxalt is an incompetent right wing fanatic, elected only on his last name and uncle Sheldon's money, and will be horrible for the state. LET'S TAKE THAT BLM LAND BACK AND LOWER ALL TAXES AND WE WON'T BE ABLE TO FUND ANYTHING (PARTICULARLY THE BLM PROPERTY) AND LET'S GUT EDUCATION FUNDING FURTHER. Trump's emphatic endorsement says it all (his law firm performance reviews say something as well I suppose). Regardless – more money for Sheldon and make sure that Nevada makes it to 50th in all aspects of education.
Having said that, Sisolak is like a cartoon/movie version of an evil politician. He's happy to give the Raiders several hundred million dollars, let Jim Rhodes desecrate some of the only naturally beauty land in Clark County, and let all the other developers start building all over the f-ing place (BUILD! BUILD! URBAN SPRAWL! I'M A DEMOCRAT BECAUSE I LIKE ABORTION) all while being a general asshole to his staff and constituents. I wish Kingmaker Reid would selected someone else. I fear we're doomed. Governor Sandoval used his veto power something like 46 times on crazy bills passed by the 2017 legislature. The Governor has a lot of power and sets the agenda or stops the agenda.

It would be interesting to see though since, as someone noted yesterday, the four candidates who won were the first four on the ballot as listed in alphabetical order. Numbers would show whether people really just opened the ballots and voted for the first four or if the change candidates really made a difference. In other words, if Paola's name had been where Kari Stephens' or Ryan Work's name were, would she still have won?
So it was Paola and the first 3 non-incumbents? Honestly the vote just sounds fishy. Sure the ballots could really reveal that it was just the top 4 on the ballot or it could be that Kim Farmer is just so lazy that she anointed the top 4 so they did not have to really count.
Sure this is tin foil hat stuff. But I have such little trust in the State Bar of Nevada that it is equally plausible to the assertion that just by coincidence the Top 4 happened to win. There is no way to ever really know; we are asked to just trust the same people who have earned exactly zero trust from us.
Paola had a lot of support from the female vote, the UNLV vote, and her colleagues in the criminal defense and p.i bars (NACJ) and NJA). So no surprises if you know that she garnered all those votes from those groups.

I'm kind of surprised that Ryan Works was defeated. I'm not sure what he did or didn't do. Still, he's a decent person and and has been around for a while.
I also agree that the Bar is wrong not publishing the actual number of votes. There should be clarity and transparency about the voting process, who counts votes, who certifies the election and the total number of votes.
Cadish spent beaucoup bucks and only got 36 per cent while Tao got 21 per cent doing next to nothing. If Tao runs a strong campaign for the general it could be an interesting race.
It's all anti-Cadish – never pro-Tao. I think they're both good judges but Cadish is better and she'll win even tho I fear the dude who lost his case in front of her will post on this blog relentlessly through November.
Cadish spent more money because she raised more money. She raised more money because she has more more support. More support generally = more votes. I don't see Tao all of the sudden out-fundraising Cadish in the general.
1:07PM–Cadish has more support from the trial lawyers, the Democrats, and pressure groups like unions. She also has the female advantage and being first on the ballot with her name. Even in spite of all that support and blasting the air waves, she only got 36 per cent. She ran very poorly in rural counties and northern Nevada.
She got 36% in a race with 5 candidates. She only has maintain that number and to lock up another 14-16% of the remaining 64% of the votes to win. Tao has to grab 30% or more to win. That is a huge disadvantage to start at.
36% to 20.5% doesn't seem like that big of a spread, but consider that Cadish only needs an additional 14% of the total vote (about 32% of the 43% who didn't vote for either Cadish or Tao) to crack 50%, while Tao has to grab an additional 30% of the total vote (about 70% of the remaining 43% who didn't vote for either) in order to win.
There will obviously be more voters in the general, but that's a pretty tall order.
Me too. I was just hoping she would pull a couple extra points and be done yesterday instead of moving on to the general.

I think the Bar should give the exact results and vote totals in order to provide more transparency in the BOG race. It seems like it wants the reputation for lack of transparency. I understand the turnout was extremely low, perhaps due to the fact that it was sent in an email which apparently, many people received in their spam folders.

The primary was yesterday. Some donors were waiting to see how primary played out. I have not donated yet.
I sat through a three week capital trial with a difficult defendant and lots of evidentiary issues. She handled the people and the issues beautifully
Tao is more qualified for the Supreme Court than her. He is already an appeals court judge.
