Not Las Vegas but the longest tenured District Attorney in the Kansas City Metro committed suicide in the courthouse yesterday. I know this profession is tough (and I admittedly have cursed some of you under my breath) but if you are thinking about something like this, tell someone.
Speaking of former DAs, don’t know how many people on this blawg might remember him, but George E. Holt passed away last June. 4 digit bar number, brother-in-law to federal Judge Jones, last seen round these parts in 2002 or so.
The lawsuit was nonsense to being with. If you have a valid claim by all means raise it, but NIMBY is never a valid reason where the zoning allows for the intended use.

US attorney did the same thing in San Diego last month. Crazy stuff: https://www.latimes.com/california/story/2026-08-28/former-acting-u-s-attorney-died-by-suicide-inside-san-diego-federal-building-coroner-says
Wow both horrible stories.

He was always very nice to me. He was before Bob Miller.
Re: the Temple dismissal. It’s interesting, but that’s what you get when you don’t prosecute your appeals. What’s more interesting to me is just how noisy Schwab’s motion to withdraw was. He lists the reason to permit withdrawal, including the “client wants to do something repugnant,” and says that all the reason exist in this case. Weirdly, he tries to carve out the president of his nonprofit client from his reasons to withdraw. The link to his motion: https://acis-api.nvcourts.gov/courts/dc01122c-a19d-4eb7-bfe9-5b96e93c26fd/cms/case/ae7f8438-2a50-46fc-a3cf-b9d1d9d78354/docketentrydocuments/73351456-702b-42ec-b181-10aa0c7f3705
I think it’s good practice to file a relatively comprehensive motion to withdraw in the appellate courts.
“None of the remarks in this Motion are targeted at Sue Kristensen who is the President”
