A lawsuit was filed against MGM Resorts for its data breach which could be much larger than first reported. [Nevada Current]
San Manuel Tribe gives $9 million to UNLV, $3 million of which goes to bolster Boyd’s gaming law curriculum. [Nevada Current]
Next Monday the period for filing for non-judicial candidates starts. Will we see a lot of lawyers vying for a chance to serve in the State Legislature?
What's the draw of serving in the state legislature if you're a private practice lawyer? It seems like it would be a massive professional inconvenience, most likely born by clients, associates and partners. I get that money usually comes with power, but how much of that is true for a rinky dink Legislator? There are a lot better ways to "give back" to the community that don't involve the ridiculous acts of self aggrandizement that come with running one of these campaigns. Honestly though, why do people do this? I don't get it.
Prestige. Power. Juice for clients. Few do it to get rich. Even fewer actually succeed at converting public office into coin. Not in this state, at any rate.
8:52 AM here. Prestige is one of those illusory things that's never clearly understood and never actually satiates those seeking it. Prestige is mostly about what others think of you, which is one the fastest ways to not find lasting happiness or stability. It's a counterproductive waste of time.
I wish we had a newspaper in this shitty town. A solid investigative reporter could cobble together a fascinating story regarding Gordon Silver, Kolesar Leatham, etc. It would take a lot of work, but it could be a wonderful case study worthy of a Harvard Business Review spread.
What would be fascinating about it? I really don't think anyone outside of local lawyers would care. Dewey–a firm that was at one time one of the most prestigious in the country–failed, and only lawyers cared. Seems like it would just be a simple lesson of not paying too much in rent and other expenses and grooming a younger generation that will stick around and maintain client contacts.
Just now looked at K&L's web site. 4 Associates, a couple of "of counsel" and everyone else is listed as a shareholder. Too many chiefs and too few workers for a viable business.
Holland & Hart is not a local firm. As far as "big" local firms, Holley Driggs is good sized. MAC, H&S, Kaempfer Crowell are all decent sized local firms.

McDonald Carano is probably the largest Nevada law firm still surviving.

I want to serve but cannot let my family suffer like that. Once the kids are out of the house, count on seeing my signs. Making Nevada Great Again!
So now what happens to the U.S. Attorney's "star" witness now that the trial is over?
Panic is setting in at K&L.
What does this even mean?
It is the Titanic.
Another victim of global warming/cooling/change.
Them Kolesar Leatham pardners are retiring. Yeah, get the bk trustee on speed text. Black and LoBello is hiring.
At least they are getting severance pay. Bob K. supposedly handing it out to all still at their desks at 5:01 PM on Friday.
Yeah. I am sure those checks are good. 501 pm. What an ass.
You do not want to work for Black and LoBello.
Ditto. Black and LoBello is the worst.
Michelle LoBello is okay. Steve Mack, no. I had a case against him.
Panic? At least they gave some type of notice.

Bummer.
I wonder if Brenoch had any idea this was going to happen when he joined them. I like Brenoch and hopefully this doesn't affect him too much.
Didn't Brenoch come from Fennemore? Irony.

Wonder if Brenoch had already paid some portion of his partnership buy-in when it became clear this was happening.
Lawsuits to follow.
Steven Mack is Daddy Mack.
Brenoch took it in the shorts on this one.
Steven Mack is dating one of the associates at Black and LoBello. Surprised they are allowing it.
Black & LoBello allows a lot of shenanigans to go on.
Yes, I work at B&L, and Steve is dating Shannon Wilson, who is young enough to be his daughter. All the more power to him.
Gross, I was not a fan of his before, but this advances that opinion even more. Keep dipping your pen in the company ink.
Why are bringing in New partners when managing partners are retiring????? Yeah, keep up the Gordon Silver lies.

What is happening to the young associates there?
How dare 12:10 PM bring Gordon Silver into this. Didn't they get enough flak with that NRA nonsense?
I might defend Trump before NRA. Oh, that is a tough choice.
Is it time to consider which is the next firm to go under after K&L? MAC? Holland & Hart? Are there any other big local firms left?
