This year there is only Justice Court department up for grabs in the general election. We know that not all of you have much to do with Justice Court, but that is just all the more reason why we should open the the Department 12 race for discussion. In the incumbent’s corner we have Judge Diana L. Sullivan and in the challenger’s corner we have Marian Kahoiwai Kamalani. If you have any insight as to why one is a better choice than the other, please share it below.
Sullivan is not as cool as when she started, really creeping into the DA's back pocket the past year or so, which is surprising considering her husband is a defense attorney. However the alternative is a former Louis Schneider employee who walks into court in jeans and Birkenstocks. Based on her choice of employer and fashion, I'm going with Sully
I really like Sullivan. I think she's definitely above average as far as justice court judges go. (Okay, i know there are some real losers dragging the average down, but still, Sullivan is one of the best.)
Sullivan is smart and not afraid to make the hard calls. I have met Mirian and she is in not even close to same caliber. This one has to go to Sullivan.
Sullivan is definitely above average. I'd go so far as to say that she's probably the best JP. It's nice to have a JP that both (1) knows the rules of evidence well enough to pass a bar exam essay question on the subject again without advance notice, and (2) genuinely tries to make the right ruling. Most of them are one or the other, or neither.
Also, Sullivan doesn't seem to suffer from black-robe disease.
off topic, but way more fun….LSC + Fennemore anyone else hear this one?
The blog needs to do a story about the Senior Judges covering for Judges when they are absent for any reason including illness, chronic illnesses, campaigning, and personal issues. We have an election and can make choices. If a Judge is always requiring a Senior Judge to cover for them, perhaps they need to retire or we need to elect or appoint someone else. Here is the Review Journal article on the subject. Does anyone know how to get the records. This is not limited to Family Court but District Court downtown. Nothing is more frustrating than having a stand in or substitute judge hearing or covering a calendar.

The reporter for the RJ and the Blog miss the point entirely. There are some Family Court Judges (not mentioned in the article) and downtown District Court Judges that have habitually used Senior Judges to cover their calendar. Those records need to obtained and posted. 8NewsNow posted the Judges who received the most contributions. Why can't they just post which Departments have used Senior Judges for the past two years (frequency and the stated reasons). The stated reasons might be even be suspicious. Let's start with the overall frequency.
