  • Remember all the rumors during the HOA scandal that a judge was involved? Well, someone testified yesterday that a Nevada Supreme Court justice tipped Nancy Quon off to the FBI investigation. No one pressed for an identification of the justice, but Justice Hardesty made it clear it wasn’t him. [RJ]
  • The latest US News and World Report Best Law School rankings put UNLV’s Boyd School of Law in a 4-way tie for #67. It also reports lower tuition costs than last year when the school landed in a 4-way tie at #83.

According to the LVRJ the Benzer scheme occurred around 2006 to 2008. The CD judges were Saitta, Cherry and Earl. In 2006 Saitta and Cherry were elected to serve as NSC Justices. In 2006 we see fat campaign contributions to Saitta from Quon Bruce Christensen, plus additional individual contributions. Hmmm ….

Saitta is Teflon. None of this will stick to her. She and Nancy Q were thick as thieves for years.

Yeah, can't touch Saitta. Does it even matter who it was? Quon had a good soul. It hurts to see her and her friend pilloried in the press and this blog.

She may be teflon in the state system, but the feds routinely prosecute state officials for corruption or other crimes. Not saying she did anything wrong, but if she did, her position will not protect her from the feds. Look up Justice Hathaway.

Remember the FBI served warrants and raids third week of September 2008? Quon Bruce Christensen cohosted a fundraiser for Justice Mark Gibbons the week prior. Gibbons served as Chief Justice at that time and if anyone was investigating at the NSC the Chief would know about it. David Amesbury, Spilotro Kulla, Nancy Quon, P.C. and James Christensen donated eleven grand to Gibbons' 2008 campaign.

Is this the highest Boyd has been ranked? I remember it being somewhere in the 70's around 2007 or so. I know Boyd gets a bad rap on this blog, but I got a good education there and I'm now making decent money because of it (of course, tuition was much lower when I went). Being ranked in the top 70 is impressive for only being around 15 years or so.

Inasmuch as people don't care about the rankings, I'll take this as a sweet victory over the troll who said to me, "what's Boyd ranked" when she touted that she went to USD. (My response, "my tuition was $7,000. What was yours?")

USD is a good law school, so is UNLV. Met some really good lawyers who went to USD; met some shitty lawyers who went to USD.

Back to the UNLV Boyd rankings. The ranking is from a poll. The majority of graduates from Boyd are from one place–Las Vegas. They work in one place-Las Vegas. Yet the ranking is consistent with regional or nationally ranked law schools like USD. How can a local law school that is state funded be ranked with schools who have graduates succeeding all over? It just shows you that the poll is all wrong. This can not be. Anyone who attended the school is not a good source that they got a good education. But the poll as published in US News has to be out there.

Since when is USD nationally ranked? Please don't be a snob unless you're in the top 25.

LOL at being a snob no matter where your school is ranked if you didn't graduate near the top of your class.

Being at the top of your class in law school is not all it is cracked up to be. Some of the people who were ranked in my law school are some of the biggest idiots I have ever encountered.

Who cares about your class ranking or your schools ranking. Who gives a shit about how many attorneys your prestigious firm employs nation wide?

Let's be honest. Anyone who's worried about any of this shit is either: A) Unsuccessful despite one or more of these three things apply to them or B) Upset that someone is doing better than them despite none of these three things apply. Most of us practice because we need money. So really whoever is in the highest tax bracket is winning. Everything else is crying over the world not being fair.

Ninth Circuit panel reverses itself and grants relief to Margaret Rudin! The whole Nevada system looks incompetent in the opinion, however. (I don't know how to insert a link to the opinion)

Here's just a taste in a footnote in the opinion: Judge Bonaventure: “My blood boils every time I hear the name Craig Creel…Whether I look at him or think of him, my blood boils. I’m getting a headache thinking of him right now.” Las Vegas Sun, 12-28-2004.

Was there a stipulated or granted motion in limine in the HOA-scandal trial precluding the parties from seeking testimony about judges? It appears that every time there has been testimony leading to any names, the parties do not seek such names — as reported in the LVRJ.

We will not get insiders names for the same reason the guv can buy millions of rounds of ammo for practically every agency, including the Department of Education (!), but you, dear citizen, are about to lose the right to buy any. Only the elect few members of the politburo have rights, including the right to privacy.

7/10 for trolling. But the giveaway is that you didn't mention Benghazi or refer to the president as "Obummer." A real crazy person would have done both. Go read the LVRJ comments and you'll get enough of a flavor for the real thing that you can more accurately imitate the rantings of a delusional right-winger. Also, I would have given you an 8/10 if you'd included just a couple more grammatical errors and/or unnecessary connecting clauses.

10/10 for effective use of logical fallacies. Go read the New York Times and you'll get enough flavor for the real delusions of those who think logic is passé.
