Family Court Department L also features a current judge versus two contenders. Judge Jennifer L. Elliott hopes to be retained, while Paul “Mitch” Gaudet and Mary Perry hope to unseat her.
Fill us in on the details of why Judge Jennifer Elliott, the occupier of the bench in the department that the late Lisa Willardson intended to run for, does or doesn’t deserve to be retained? Does she really miss that many days of court? If so, is Mitch or Mary the better choice?
Does anyone have objective facts about Paul Gaudet? I can sift through the bs postings of
the candidates themselves, so don't bother.
Don't vote for him. Gaudet is rude and has a bad temper. I recall him very well. He is a money hungry parasite like many family court lawyers.
I was about to vote for Mary until I grabbed this from her site : "Familys have been been my primary focus for my entire Legal career"
Uh….
Thank you for pointing that out for me. It has now been corrected.
I've had a couple cases in front of Elliot and I've never had a problem with her rulings. I think she's a pretty fair judge and tries hard to follow the law given the difficult facts of most family law cases. She seems to actually care about doing a good job for the families that appear in front of her, but she also isn't afraid to take a hard line when it's called for.

Elliott does have some issues as far as the Family Bar is concerned. However, it is of course the general public who will be voting. Elliott always demolishes her opposition. And her opposition this time lacks money and name recognition. The question of who "should" win, and the question of who "will" win, will not result in the same answer.
Well, as to 9:33, often that's true, but sometimes(more at the RJC than Family Court) the best attorneys do win races, in part because the Bar gets behind them with significant financial support. Admittedly, in Family Court races, money is a lot more scarce. On some of the postings there is a discussion of appointment vs. elections, and how both methods yield both good and bad judges. That's true. In Family Court, the best ones are Duckworth, Hoskin, Sullivan, Henderson and Giuliani(and perhaps Ritchie). Some of them were appointed, and some were elected.
Mary Perry is a marginal lawyer and will be a terrible judge.
Lost to her, did ya?
Mary – I mean "Abby" – Please stop
In the cases I have had with Mary Perry, I found her to be knowledgeable, fair, and willing to work out a problem-she can see all sides of the equation. She can be tough in court, and well prepared.
In my more recent cases before Judge Elliot, I have observed that she is not as proficient as she once was. Taking all into consideration, Mary Perry gets my vote.
