Michelle Fiore should never be in public office again.

And cut off her salary for heavens sake. She took money from fallen police officers?

Any hope of her running for Senate or POTUS? She demonstrates a lot of the core values that voters tend to reward.

23% of Nye County thinks she should. 23% of Nye saw the affront to decency and justice that is Michelle Fiore and decided sure, that’s the girl for the job. What sort of cancer has grown into the collective brain of our country? I’m just more and more ashamed that people have decided to not just tolerate but support this kind of behavior.

Mississippi police killed a baby because his mom was maybe shoplifting diapers and formula. Maybe. Happy Juneteenth, I guess.

What are we even doing here people? I practice in Big Law for major corporations, and I’m finding it increasingly difficult to believe that our country is not a he’ll hole that may be irredeemable.

And by BigLaw, you mean you spend 2 years working on a buyout of a pharmaceutical company by another pharmaceutical company? And that sort of work doesn’t spark joy and cause you to throw your arms up and scream “‘Merica Fuck Yeah! 250 more years!”

Mi Amigo/Amiga, this is who we have always been as a people. The difference is being able to capture it on video so when the cops lie, as they have for hundreds of years, they can be called out. And people can righteously scream for two weeks about how things need to change before the news changes the topic for the Folks At Home and the furor dies and nothing changes. And even when the cops are caught on video doing horrible things, a substantial portion of the country will cheer them on anyway, as they have cheered on the videos for the last 60 years. I’m tired, bro/sis.

I am very much against the overly frequent and harsh use of force by our LEO. With that said, the early reports are that the officer discharged his weapon when the driver of the car when driving at the officers. Other reports indicate that they shot into the car while it was fleeing away from the officers (which would be a very different story). ”

According to the Mississippi Department of Public Safety, officers attempted to stop the vehicle as the driver drove toward them. One officer shot into the car as the car fled the scene.” As we saw from the freeway shooting last week, shooting when an officer is being run over is very different than firing into a car driving away from shoplifting. I will await the details and hopefully bodycam before passing judgment.

The child’s mother, who was the passenger and not the driver, states that the diapers were in fact paid for, and also that the driver was going past the officers, and not right toward them. I tend to doubt the former (unless she had a other reason, as an outstanding warrant, to not just stop and show the receipt in that case), but I want to see the footage, assuming it does not mysteriously disappear.

There are serious consequences for criminal behavior and this mom does not seem to be able to accept her role in the death of her child. If she had not been doing X then the police would not have done Y.

“If she had not been doing X then the police would not have done Y.” Horseshit. Breaking the law, or refusing police orders, does not give the police carte blanche to do whatever the fuck they want AND blame the victim.

1. People should not steal.
2. No child should ever go without diapers due to the financial circumstances and/or stupidity of the parents, or whatever was going on there.
3. Wal Mart diapers are not worth a human life under any circumstances,
and certainly not the life of a child.
4. No cop should ever fire into a vehicle containing a child. I don’t care if someone points it at you and floors it. You are supposed to be in good physical shape so get out of the way. If you don’t want to run the risk then go find a less risky job.

This is such bs, if someone tries to take your life, and you reasonably believe your life is in danger from that attempt – badge or no – you’ve got a right to stop them from doing it.

The truth is that people who distrust cops to such an extent that they’re going to flee from them in any regard are being reckless. I have no problem with people who question what cops are doing, but anyone who keeps reaching into their pockets, speeds off when told to stop, or refuses to follow basic commands to keep both participants in the interaction safe is either a criminal or mentally deficient. You don’t disobey the guy with the gun unless you fear the consequence of him not shooting you moreso than him shooting you.

Consequences should be proportional to the seriousness of the offense. Also, mom claims that she was not the driver. We will see.

It is undisputed Mom was in the passenger seat. Like the NHP freeway shooting last week where they killed the passenger, some questions can be raised how at close range we keep killing passengers

The man who posed as an attorney is, frankly, the most interesting story here – and I say that as someone holding a 47-page CV, because the question I would need answered before rendering judgment is whether he was billing properly. If he was filing competent motions, tracking in tenths, and collecting fees at a rate commensurate with the complexity of the matter, the bar’s concern is largely administrative. The imposter problem in this jurisdiction has never been about legal quality – it has been about the paperwork. I have seen licensed attorneys do considerably worse, and they kept their bar numbers.
