"The parents' lawyers include include Joey Gilbert, a Reno attorney running for governor, and Sigal Chattah, a Las Vegas attorney running for attorney general. Both are Republicans."

That tells you all you need to know about the legitimacy of this lawsuit.

What does that mean? Are you suggesting republicans are incapable of legitimate practice?

The inclusion of their political party says more about (the decline of objective) journalism than anything else.

It's amazing how these poor children can't go to school for 6-8 hours with a mask on, but a 50 year old surgeon can stand over an operating table and perform open heart surgery for 6 hours in full PPE; a nurse can work in a COVID ward for 12 hours in full PPE. Simply amazing.

Yeah? Explain yourself then. Or are you just here to insult people. The idea that a mask impairs a child's ability to play a volleyball game or negatively impacts their behavior is simply false. You can google oxygen levels in a mask and find a ton of articles and videos showing people who have run 20+ miles in a mask and then tested their O2 saturation levels – perfectly fine. Any suggestion otherwise is simply a lie.

As far as behavior goes, children will do what the parents model. I had a client who was moving to another state and they were flying. She had a 3 year old and so months in advance they started practicing. The entire family would put on their masks and go out. The child was allowed to pick out a mask that she liked. She got used to wearing it. When they moved, like magic, there was not a single issue with the child wearing her mask properly on the plane.

The problem is when the parents insist on behaving like children themselves by throwing temper tantrums over the slightest inconvenience, etc.

@11:18- I am not 10:54, however, the issue I have seen most (rational) parents raise is not whether a child can run 20+ miles unimpaired in a mask, but rather, what the effects are of prolonged, all-day masking on the child's cognitive and social development. A study that even CNN has cited to found children were able to correctly identify the emotions of uncovered faces 66% of the time, on average. When covered by a mask, that figure dropped to 28% for sadness, 27% for anger, and 18% for fear. Nervous parents are worried that, since early childhood is such a sensitive period for development, if we stay in a state of prolonged masking, this have a long-term effect on the development of empathy, safety or the child's ability to understand facial expressions… Will it? Only time can tell…

Yeah…no one said it was a perfect solution, but look at Florida. They've got teachers dropping dead because their idiotic governor prohibited masking in schools. This is literally a pandemic. I'm so sick of people acting like this isn't real. There are over 600,000 dead in this country alone. How many people have to die before these lunatics acknowledge that it's a goddamn public health crisis. If they had all worn their masks last year and gotten vaccines this year, we wouldn't be in this mess. It's exhausting living in a world with that level of stupidity.

And it has got to be traumatizing to families that have done everything right and still lost family members to COVID and then to have some asshole whine on facebook about how it's not real.

The governor prohibited mask mandates, not "masking in schools." Get your facts right. If a parent wants to send their child to school with a mask, they can. If they don't like it, move states or home school.

needless deaths of hundreds of thousands of people? Are you saying that there was an alternative to the hundreds of thousands of people dying from COVID? Can you describe a scenario wherein hundreds of thousands of people would not have died from COVID? Is there an example of a place, country, or area, where nobody died from COVID? The fact of the matter is that no government, nation or people has been able to combat COVID in a manner that everyone can follow and point as successful. COVID-19 is an endemic and we need to accept that it will be with us forever. Whether we vaccinate, isolate, wear masks is a personal choice. We are just playing the odds with our own lives based on our personal choices.

People die from a lot of preventable causes: car accidents, smoking, obesity, the flu, etc. As long as the body count is threatening to overrun the hospitals and prevent people from traveling to Las Vegas, those causes don't reach emergency levels. Do better – especially if you're a lawyer.

If every person in favor of this stupid lawsuit was vaccinated, there would be no need for kids to wear masks at school. It's your fault. Of course, the Venn diagram of (1) anti-maskers; (2) anti-vaxers; and (3) Nevadans who are fine with exposing schoolkids to the trauma of "active shooter drills" (so they can keep their AR-15s) is pretty close to a single circle. BUT WHAT ABOUT THE KIDS! THIS IS ABUSE! WHO YOU PEOPLE?!

The masks have no bearing on the spread of this. Sweden didn't follow the world in this and their numbers were about the same last year and are better this year. California and Florida had similar numbers but different mask policies. The virus spreads through aerosols that aren't stopped by masks. We are all going to be exposed to this regardless of whether we mask or not.

I'm sure you're vaccinated, in favor of others receiving the vaccine, employers' right to require vaccines, and you've never called COVID a hoax or plandemic. You're not against masks – you're against doing anything to help stop the spread of the deadliest disease of our lives.

Sweden is not a huge success story and they've had much higher rates than european countries that locked down and masked. Also, culturally, sweden is very different from the US. They have more of a general sense of community responsibility whereas we have karens intentionally coughing on people in grocery stores.

Mask/no mask, vax/no vax
This whole of the blog comments today are examples of intelligent people acting stupidly stupid.
– Vax works (you and your kids don't have polio, whooping cough or diphtheria, you don't have shingles).
– Mask, especially the cloth ones most of us wear (uncovered noses and all) are probably not effective. (See Fauchi and others' statements to that effect in Spring 2020).

But setting all of that aside, cooperate. Just do both and we will be done with the entire Covid thing in a few months. The opposition is a silly, stupid recurring commentary in the genre of elementary school age children chanting my mom can beat up your mom.

@4:17 Vax works? Don't think so. Fully vaccinated people are getting breakthrough Covid. I know many of them, and NO, the symptoms aren't lighter than those who aren't vaccinated. You cite polio, whopping cough, shingles and dyptheria, but you don't hear of people getting breakthrough polio. That's because those vaccines work.

Masks (cloth ones) are only 10% effective. Covid is not going away in a few months. It won't go away because they won't let it. Too much money in Covid.
