What do you make of this press release regarding the Las Vegas Legal Network? [Nevada Business]
Water conditions could lead to new regulations prohibiting grass and evaporative cooling in new developments. [TNI]
I know I speak for dozens of Nevadans when I say I demand that the Nevada AG's #1 priority must be standing up to a member of the US House from Minnesota. I never realized a congresswoman from 2000 miles away was responsible for Nevada cities and counties defunding their police forces. #themoreyouknow
Oh, I don't know. Maybe because it was a Minnesota congresswoman who was arguably the most outspoken supporter of the refund the police movement, which has trickled its way across America into many cities, including ours with a growing anti-police sentiment, which is directly relevant to the AG position she wants to win. Maybe you need some critical thinking abilities to make that obvious connection? #themoreyouknow
But no police agencies were defunded in Nevada, right? None that I'm aware of at least. So how is she going to sue Omar in court over something that didn't happen in Nevada?
Look, all I'm saying is that the ad is just a red meat filled talking point mad lib that has very little to do with what is happening in Nevada.

I like Sigal. Why are we discussing that she is Israeli?
She absolutely has my vote, especially over the guy who had tax liens recorded against his property. That said, I don't like the emphasis on her heritage, why should it matter? Can we stop putting people into boxes of immutable characteristics? How is her heritage relevant to the position?
Since when did Ilhan Omar announce that she's running for Nevada AG?
I'm always baffled by intelligent attorneys who run for office and have to ingratiate themselves to the nut jobs in the party base. The attorney candidates don't actually believe the nonsense they spew in order to get the nomination, right? Although, I sometimes wonder if Adam Laxalt does actually believe the crazy stuff he says. It's honestly hard to tell.
I really don't feel that her views on Israeli have any particular significant relevance.
If she was running for U.S. Secretary Of State her views on Israeli could have some relevance as to possible matters her office could encounter.
But she's running for Nevada Attorney General. Considering the types and variety of cases that office has traditionally handled, it is difficult to envision a case the Nevada AG will handle that has a fact pattern that is significantly affected by the sitting A.G's policy views concerning Israel.
I'm sure w could think up matters which could arise where her views on Israeli could impact such decision, but that would largely be a theoretical, hypothetical exercise.
If we just focus on the likely cases that office regularly encounters, I don't really care what her views are concerning Israeli matters and issues.
People get all upset about and concerned about the views of certain candidates and office holders, even when it has no connection to the office. And these are often so-called "moral" or "family values" issues.
For example, often you see some handy voter guide from an organization that, let's say, supports or opposes abortion rights. And they will go down the list of offices, top to bottom, so that you can vote for the candidate in each race that supports your view.
So, as such voters get down the ballot, they vote for a County Clerk or County Recorder based on that candidate's view of abortion rights.
We seldom stop to reflect on how absurd that is–regardless of which side someone is on concerning such issue.
Sigal is the one who brought it up–12 seconds into her "viral" video that she would love for you to watch and share. She's not stupid. She knows Omar isn't running in Nevada, but this is the kind of stuff that gets you attention and more name recognition. If she continues to play her cards right like this, she may very well be the next Nevada AG.
3:27, what do you mean the ninth circuit "likes" Chattah? Did she win an appeal? Winning a legal argument now means the court personally "likes" someone? Are you not a lawyer, because that statement makes zero sense.
re: Las Vegas Legal Network
Sorry, this does not sound like a charity or even a legit pro-bono referral operation.
How is David Kohlmeier paid? Follow the money.
How are the attorney members paid?
How many Cannons can you violate for paid referrals from a non-lawyer?
That press release is an UPL and NRPC nightmare. Clearly prepared by someone who does not know or does not care to all of the admissions made in that press release, not the mention the misleading claims in that press release. I am not really that pious but hand that press release to the OBC and watch them go to town.
Factual background? People showing up to the scene of a crash soliciting the case under the guise of helping. To top it off, it is former cops in order to help create the appearance of it being above-board. The rules are clear, you can't solicit a case in person and you can't solicit a case in writing for 30 days. Showing up at the scene to "help" and refer them to an attorney is no different than paying a runner to go solicit a case. If it is different, please provide the details on how it is different.
If that's happening (and I often heard this is a "thing" from inside the PI community), why isn't OBC aggressively going after clear violations instead looking for easy kills against solo practioners for, relatively speaking, much less serious matters.
Because it hurts ethical practitioners. Rule of thumb: if it hurts practitioners, but is seen as "lowering the barrier to obtaining legal services," OBC will either support it or quietly ignore it. If it generally helps practitioners, expect to see them crack down.
I don't see an ethical violation, unless I'm misunderstanding how it works. Wouldn't the accident victim/plaintiff have to call LVLN, thereby initiating contact with the law firm and its staff?
@9:01p – My understanding is he advertises online, billboards, etc. Someone has to call his phone number or submit a request on his website before the person gets contacted. He's not bird dogging. Second, the SBN allows paying a marketing company for leads (reasonable reimbursement for expenses = NOLO.com for example) as well as allowing a fixed monthly fee for marketing services. I don't do PI but I presently pay a marketing company a fixed amount per month and any inbound calls in my specific practice area are transferred to my office. I know a local criminal defense/family law firm that buys a shit ton of leads from Martindale Hubbell (Nolo) and pays a flat rate per lead. They're not a law firm.
If you are paying someone to hand out business cards at an accident scene (tow truck driver), that is classic "running".
Unscrupulous and greedy attorneys have tried to get around that rule by engaging “runners” and “cappers,” non-lawyers who contact injured people and try to steer them to the attorneys for legal services. Over time, the scams got more sophisticated – lawyers would affiliate with medical providers and agree to help each other’s business by sending clients and patients back and forth. Sometimes, lawyers would develop relationships with ambulance or towing services so the lawyer could be the first to know about a car crash involving an injury.
Where is the Harry Reid mob when you need them? It nearly took out Harry Reid, and it could certainly take out billboard pi lawyers getting their clients off the Boulder Highway.
Yikes! That video of Sigal Chattah.

Defend the police, typo there

Totally agree. She is getting my vote.

@ 12:50, maybe because the title of the article cited is "A Nevada conservative running for attorney general leans hard into her Israeliness"
Its also published in the Times of Israel. That might've answered your question.

Cannot believe 9th Circuit likes Sigal Chattah? But hey, what do I know? I think she is confused as to what office she is running for.
2:27, never. Dumb question, or are you intentionally misstating the video so you can create a false narrative?
3:27, what do you mean the ninth circuit "likes" Chattah? Did she win an appeal? Winning a legal argument now means the court personally "likes" someone? Are you not a lawyer, because that statement makes zero sense.
3:48 it made sense to me.

Very stinky smelling
How is this any different than tow truck drivers getting $500 for handing out business cards at the scene?
Please provide factual background?

Nonlawyers can't own law firms.
Lawyers can't share fees with nonlawyers.
No shit. And…..?
Ask Andrew Craner how the pink pepto bismo building stays open?
Don't ask. Don't tell.
