- Raiders won and Bryce Harper (and the Phillies) are in the World Series–what else is happening?
FIRST! TTHHWWAACCKK! #FreeTheWind
Raiders looked good (finally), and this is coming from a Chiefs fan.
Houston is in the World Series
It is disturbing that the Phillies are the only thing standing between the Astros and another WS title. One can only hope that somehow, someway, an upset is coming.
Of course, the Pride of Vegas, Bryce Harper is leading that righteous cause! Would love to see Harper get a ring even more than I want to see Houston denied.
I am torn. Astros are super fun to watch, especially defensively. But, Harper is the hometown son.
Bryce Harper is perhaps the least likeable player in MLB. The talent is there, but there is just an unseemly way about him. Only player I can think of who was ever choked out by one of his own teammates, in his own dugout, during a game.
Yeah. You're pretty much without a clue. That whole incident was not totally Harper's fault. He isn't even the most unlikable person in that little hullabaloo.
Harper mouthed off (rookie mistake) to a jackass (40th round draft pick that took 3 years to join the dance) pitcher (for disrespecting a pitcher from said jackass's former team) who was out of baseball less than a year later. But, it's all good. Harper (#1 draft pick) only makes $25.3M a year and will do so for the next 9 years.
And, having met him I rather like him both as a person and player.
This is a pretty good analysis.

3:23 pretty much nailed it. Harper is among the more talented players in baseball; but he's a d*uche. He's looked at plenty of strike three pitches in his career and has rarely declined to let an umpire know his feelings (Harper averages 150 Ks per season). It's painful to watch him whine each and every time he looks at strike 3. Sit down and STFU, Bryce; you struck out.
The RJ article is so dumb. Telles doesn't have thousands. He has property. Even if he sold it, he'd still not have enough to pay for the kind of defense he is going to need for a capital case. And if he was ordered to sell it all, his wife would immediately file for divorce and she'd take at least half…if not more. And when did this become a sports blog?
Sports, litigation, law – All are competitive activities.
Telles case is not a capital case but otherwise you are correct
1:25, it's the etc. part of the legal news, rumors, gossip, etc
You know the old saying, "Don't pick fights with people who buy ink by the barrel"? Here's another: "Don't go murdering the colleague of people who buy ink by the barrel."
Telles just made his biggest mistake since killing German and leaving his dna under his nails. Firing the PD's office for Ryan Helmick is the worst thing he could do. He would be better off representing himself.
Telles hired a traffic ticket lawyer from the Pink House Law Firm to represent him? Wow.
Who cares how much money he'd net if he sold all his assets and his wife got half. He shouldn't be being represented by the PDs office if he's not indigent. I don't care if a convicted murderer who will be spending his life in prison loses what assets he has left.
Civil practitioner here. What happens if a Defendant in a big criminal defense trial runs out of money during the pendency of the case? Does he just switch over to the public defenders office? Does this create potential due process issues?
Also a civil practitioner here, but I'd want my money upfront if I was defending a criminal.
Criminal defense is almost always flat fee–so if an attorney agrees to a flat fee including trial, he is bound. Most attorneys will do a retainer through preliminary hearing, or absent trial, and then renegotiate or withdraw at a later date. And an attorney can absolutely get "stuck" representing a defendant if he waits until the eleventh hour to try and withdraw. The attorney cannot cause prejudice to a client.
5:50 that is exactly the problem. A capital defense case is a massive undertaking for the attorney involved. While 5:43 might think that a couple thousand makes a person "not indigent," when it comes to a capital defense case, Telles is flat broke and has nothing coming in.
There is not enough money to defend Telles on this case. He will be back with the public defender or special public defender. The County can also pay private counsel for panel counsel for his defense. Nevada is pretty liberal with withdrawal of counsel, in fact, way too liberal. Once the money runs out and it will, the County will be paying for his defense. The PD's office creates a lien for the legal fees which are seldom enforced or collected upon.
