Congratulations to the winners of the judicial election yesterday including the unopposed members of the Supreme Court and Court of Appeals; retained Judges Joe Hardy and Eric Johnson; and elected/retained Justices of the Peace Sam Bateman, Harmony Letizia, Rebecca Kern, Karen Bennett, and Suzan Baucum. All five ballot questions on Clark County ballots yesterday passed–including background checks, and recreational marijuana. And control of the state legislature changed. What does this all mean? Probably more work for lots of you. What do you think?

I've not heard a single negative thing about Bita. (Admittedly, I don't ever practice in JC, so I have no personal experience.) It surprised me to see an incumbent get so handily defeated when there is apparently nothing wrong with her. Anyone have any insight as to what happened?

Kern is most bangable. Reminds me a bit of the actress on Damages. I heard she used to volunteer at the old peoples home. That's the factor that made us vote for her (well that and the fact he thought she was a long-shot and always love the underfox). š

Today a lot of folks were not happy. I am deeply concerned and would have been regardless of the outcome. (In full disclosure, much akin to releasing tax returns if you are running for office, yes, I am more concerned this morning with Trump in that office than Clinton.) However, I am not going to sit out the next four years- I am more encouraged to make a change in the direction I feel is better for social policies and that's where I will be throwing my extra money and time with vigor. So for anyone who wants to say "suck it" and rub it in to basically half the voting population for edging out by a small margin- I encourage you to think bigger picture.
I guess we just can't help ourselves from making y'all eat crow for a minute. We are "deplorables," right? Progressives were not saints during this election. There were undercover Trump voters for a reason. They wanted to spare themselves from progressives' vitriolic hate. Love may trump hate, but for progressives its always okay to hate those "stupid" conservatives.

@11:04 and @11:06, 10:18 here- Really? Was there any hate in my post- no. Did I state that I loved either- no. I could list my issues and reasoning behind my dislike for both, but it's a moot point.
My post was a move on and be a part of a solution. Making anyone eat crow and subsequently attacking does not help. As for undercover anything… I have been a registered Republican since I was 18 and made no secret as to who I voted for because I was confident in my choice regardless of name calling and the vitriol from both sides. My closest ally where I work voted the other way and guess what- we never got into it and respected the other and both talked about the future today.
Seeing this continued hatred makes me think that maybe both of the candidates were the ones we deserved overall, massive flaws and all… smh.

That might be the best statement anyone's made to explain yesterday's results.
Maybe the Dems did not hear the voices of hardworking people who pay more and more money for worse healthcare than illegals and lifetime welfare recipients get for free. Maybe the Dems did not hear the voices of hardworking people who are increasingly strong-armed to shoulder the load of the ever-growing leech class which shamelessly and brazenly demands free housing, free food, free healthcare, and free walking-around money. And maybe the Dems don't here the voices of taxpayers who are squeezed to pay for an increasingly-bloated government bureaucracy whose "workers'" pay increases outpace those of hardworking private-sector employees and whose retirement plans and fringe benefits are fat and unsustainable.
And maybe, just maybe, American voters were willing to give a flawed man a chance so long as he at least acknowledged and did not ignore those voices.

Or, maybe, Trump used a divide-and-conquer strategy to encourage HRC to "stand up" for women in a way that caused her to overlook men and men's issues. Who then voted for Trump 2:1.

I came in to work this morning to get into a long discussion with my employees about this point. There is a whole sector of the population that is sick of the government and upset with the direction things are currently headed. Those are the people that nobody listened to and clearly everybody underestimated how many of them would come out and make their voices heard.
Agree with 10:26's assessment re the "silent [white, uneducated] majority's" heartfelt grievances. However, they are truly beyond stupid to believe that King Trump "acknowledged" those grievances. What King Trump did was, like the sophisticated self-declared billionaire that he is, "capitalize" on the deplorables' self-pity by throwing them a party where they could let all of their built-up anger and hate out in a safe/supportive/non-judgmental environment. "Oh you poor, blue-collared, white men, so down-trodden by the masses of over-educated, elite homosexuals and brown-skinned foreigners, let me (someone who has zero in common with you and who wouldn't be caught dead eating in your smelly, commoner's home with your boring family that has never even been near a yacht or country club) be your savior." It's not so much the "over-educated, elite homosexuals and brown-skinned foreigners"; it's the leeches. It's the able-bodied who shamelessly collect Social Security disability; it's the welfare moms who just take take take and still piss and moan; it's the lazy government employee union members who get compensated at rates 5 time more than their worth. What 11:46 said. I am dumbfounded that anyone is stupid enough to have bought any of his sound-bite rhetoric. What the president has the most direct power over is the federal agencies and guess what – that's not going to work in favor of most of those on the Trump train. But they are too uninformed to know that. To think anyone believes Trump gives the slightest crap about anything other than himself is mind boggling.
Yesterday afternoon, I didn't think there was a snowball's chance in hell that we would be here now. But here we are.
Now I hope Donald Trump makes good decisions and that we are all better off in 4 years. I don't know if that's realistic or not, but I really hope so. I know some very smart people who believe that a Trump presidency will work out just fine. I have my fingers crossed.
In the meantime, I would love for us all to turn down the anger and the bitterness (on one side) and the gloating and nastiness (on the other). It looks like Clinton won the popular vote, so it's safe to say that there is a rift, and we would be better off trying to mend it.

The facts are clearly evident that this country is deeply, deeply divided, insecure and full of hatred for one another no matter what side of the aisle that you stand on.
The absence of the simple basic values of integrity, consideration and respect, along with accountability is at the very core of this failing country.

I hate the fact that we have elected someone who so clearly and vocally denigrates women. @3:44, it is the "pro-lifers" who have done the hijacking, by staking a claim to that very phrase as if one can only be "pro-life" if one is also "anti-choice [but not for all, just for women!]." Personally, I do not know of any "pro-choice" advocates who are also cheerleaders of abortion. I do, however, know wa-a-a-ay too many purported "pro-lifers" who want to save every embryo ever created but who couldn't give two sh!ts about all the kids who are born every day into abusive or neglectful homes. @12:34 – Trump won the state of Utah, but did not get a majority of the Utah votes (as @1:08 said). The majority of Utahns voted for Clinton, McMullin or Johnson.
12:34 here now– I see that now. Looking at results, It appears Trump won 25 states with at least 50% of the vote, and Clinton won 15 states with at least 50%. Trump won Utah with 47%. Clinton won Minnesota and Colorado with 47%. She won popular vote by just under 300,000. Narrower margin than Bush v. Gore.
Only real surprise yesterday was Bita losing so badly. Any insight on who she pissed off?

Alphabetism? Only the most polarizing candidates are even familiar in name to the average voter. I would not be surprised if we went back and looked at ballots over the last 30 years and found that the first name listed was elected a statistically significant number of times. TV news stations are reporting that Trump will be meeting Obama at White House. This is the first time they will have been in the same room since the White House Correspondents' Dinner several years ago. It is believed that after Obama made fun of Trump from the podium during the dinner, that Trump decided at that moment to seek the Presidency. So I guess we can thank Obama for getting Trump. Sweet!
