We should have red light cameras.

If you rear end someone who stopped early, you should have left more time to stop.

I’d rather take that risk than risking someone blowing through the intersection and t-boning me.

If you loan your car to someone and they run a red, you should get a ticket. Don’t negligently entrust your car to someone.

And for all the complaining about the big brother/police state in the TNI opinion piece, we’re already way past that. Metro has cameras everywhere. In and outside all the metro busses, on the top of casinos (so they can see everywhere), all over the strip, all of your neighbors’ ring cameras, etc.

I fully agree, although you should have the opportunity to prove that someone else was driving your car if that is in fact the case, but a rebuttable presumption that the driver and the registered owner are one and the same.

The issue with Red Light Cameras and Photo Radar is the govt outsources it to a private company for a small percentage of the tickets because the govt cannot do it themselves. Then, to increase revenue all of a sudden yellow lights only last two seconds instead of five and people that are going 35 are clocked at 39 etc.

I agree that all of this is subject to manipulation by bad-faith/profit-hungry actors. The question is whether appropriate safeguards can be built in.

Other states have failed to control this and there have been accusations of deaths caused by the randomization of the yellow light timing.

Let’s not worry about red light cameras.
Instead, legislate that if you don’t have a driver’s license or insurance, you (the driver) cannot sue for damages resulting from an accident.

The former would provide more revenue for the City of LV, but do little to improve safety. While the latter would cut the cost of vehicle insurance for all Nevadans.

Why do some people care so much about criminal privacy rights? Is it because a large part of the voting base are criminals or because they are dumb?

Good point, let’s get rid of all those complicated Amendments especially the first 10 of them. What is the name of those first 10? Does OP remember any civics?

I think we can all agree that we’re fine with censorship of the press, restrictions on the right to assembly, forced self incrimination, and warrantless searches of our homes as long as we don’t have to quarter those bastards.

It’s funny to me how many red-blooded, conservative Republicans would feel at home in the Soviet Union. Nothing is as important as using state power to crush the people I don’t like.

Let’s be honest, traditional conservatism is dead in the water. What we have today is neo-conservatism. Some of the biggest statists I know are republicans, which makes absolutely no sense.

The biggest statists I know are ALL uniparty politicians in Washington DC. They seem to ALL agree on only a few things, including: continuing the Patriot Act, surveilling all Americans, and giving the war machine billions per year.
If a politician has been in DC for 10 years or more, they’re corrupt, bought and paid for. On both sides. The exceptions, if any, can be counted on one hand.

How much do you want to bet that once they put in red light cameras, vigilante groups will just start destroying them whenever they get the chance? This is already happening in England, and the public generally supports it. Given the current political climate, I would not be surprised if we had organized groups identifying cameras and taking them down as fast as they’re put up.

Here is a slightly off-topic topic that comes up every few years: Where do you guys go online to buy decent business casual shirts? I used to shop at Jos. Bank for that type of stuff, but most of their B&M stores closed and the o line selection doesn’t look that great. I see lots of online offers from Charles Tyrwhitt, but they charge extra for my collar/sleeve size and also for a breast pocket, so it winds up being not such a great deal. Also see ads for Paul Fredrick, but have not looked into that yet. Brooks Brothers is a good standby with 3/$199 offered online right now. That’s a little more than I wanted to pay (trying to stay between $35-$50) but I will pay it if they still have the quality and there are no better alternatives. As far as regular dress shirts go, I only wear a suit and tie about 2x per month these days so I don’t need too many of those.

I bought an OCBD from Tyrwhitt about a year ago and it’s holding up well. J. Crew can have some good sales, maybe not the highest quality but they look good. I touched a Brunello Cucinelli shirt once and it felt incredible, but it was a little out of my price range.

I’ve also had luck buying used shirts from brands like Polo Ralph Lauren and Brooks Bros. on eBay.

Roundtree & Yorke Gold Label. At Dillards. They have slim fit, full fit, and another. They almost always have these shirts on clearance for about $30. Full price is closer to $60. Absolutely worth it. Every dress shirt I own is this brand.

This is my go-to brand for dress shirts. The white dress shirts are NEVER on sale, but still worth every penny. The blue shirts and pattern shirts go on sale frequently. I just picked up some baby blues for $27. These are high quality shirts that hold up.

Nordstrom has/had great shirts. Buy them at the men’s half yearly or anniversary sale. It has been a few years, but they were right at your price point during the sale.

Dillards is usually pretty good.

Jos Bank online is decent. Get the traveler shirts.

And if you aren’t a snob, Costco has decent dress shirts.

I only wear Costco dress shirts under my suits and they look great. I replace them every 6-8 months, so they always look new, and at that price its a no brainer. Costco dress shirts are a no wrinkle, great life hack (but get a well tailored suit).

Great ideas all, but also consider Calvin Klein at any of the outlet malls especially dress shirts I think, often $40, I think they are a nice fit.

All depends on body type and fit. I dabbled for years and found Brooks Brothers fits me the best, so that’s all I wear. It’s worth an extra $20 or $30 for a shirt that actually fits you especially when you’re going to keep for years.

Haggar at the Outlet Mall and now online. They routinely run 75% off sales. You can buy them in bulk cheaply, and they last.

Custom. Get some proper dress shirts and you will love life. BTW there should be no breast pocket on a dress shirts (unless you have a pocket protector full of pens and you work at NASA).

http://www.propercloth.com

Thank me later. The shirts are not cheap, but they are superior in quality, fit and finish, customized to you and you will look like you did not just roll off the factory floor of an ID firm. Take pride in your appearance. Shirts should hug your body snug and show a 1/4 inch of cuff under your suit.

I appreciate that it is worth it to you to get custom made shirts. No one is denying your right to spend extra on this luxury (in the same way that people have the right to splurge on Maseratis or condos in Maui so long as they have the wherewithal). But not everyone wants or needs to incur the expense even if they can afford it.

OP here- I know breast pockets are passes but l’m always sticking a pen or a receipt in there. A shirt with no pocket is like pants with no pockets. And while I am here- thanks for all of the great suggestions from everyone.

I have sent (many) more than one assistant to Dillards to replace a shirt ruined by a pen placed back in the pocket without clicking it closed.

It’s also why I MUST have pens with caps.

For pattern business casual button down shirts it’s tough to beat the pricec and quality of Duluth Trading Company. But they don’t have a great selection of solids.

When I pull up in my ’98 Hyundai to the RJC, ready to represent my indigent criminal clients, I like to rock my pleated and cuffed Dockers from JC Penny, solid brown dress shoes I bought back in early 2003 (can’t recall where) with mismatched shoelaces and my coffee stained off white Van Heusen short sleeved dress shirt from the outlet mall under my tan blazer with elbow patches I found in the PD’s clothing closet…..it’s like my own hand tailored apparel.
