The Harris Law Firm v. Dimopoulos ruling.

Big D filed a dec relief to void Harris’ attorney lien, and was awarded $230k in fees, and then another $40k in fees for a motion for reconsideration. I dunno but that seems like a ton of attorneys fees for something that straightforward.

The craziest part of all this to me is that Harris was asking for $1,000 an hour.

How could anyone think that would pass the smell test? I think mine is $400 p/h for me, and $100 for a paralegal. Dumb.

So most of the PI shops list their hourly rate if discharged between $750 and $1000 as a disincentive to firing the firms. Here is the kicker: the same discharge clause that Dimopolous contended to be unconscionable was in the Dimopolous retention agreement.

Pretty sure I read somewhere recently that intentionally inflating an attorney lien hourly rate for the sole purpose of discouraging a client from firing you is in direct conflict with the NRPC and could land you in some hot water down the line.

Harris doesn’t back down. This is reminiscent of years ago when he and Eglet were throwing haymakers at one another.

I don’t practice in P.I. I assume Richard Harris didn’t turn over time records because he didn’t have any? Isn’t not tracking time one of the benefits of plaintiffs work?

Las Vegas is 100% a sanctuary city. Metro does not honor ice detainers and will only notify ice of the most severe crimes. And even then, they won’t hold the perp for ICE. That is what a sanctuary city is

It’s not Metro’s job to enforce immigration law. Metro already struggles to respond to calls timely. If you’ve ever been a victim of crime, you know how frustrating this is. The last thing we want is to further burden an already non-responsive Metro.

I’ll remind you that the sovereign is the Nevada state government, not the federal government. Nevada has no obligation to assist or cooperate in enforcing federal law, including immigration law.

All of a sudden the right wingers have not only abandoned, but completely forgotten about federalism and states rights.

We have forgotten no such thing, neither before nor after Roe was overturned.

That said, yes, there is no obligation to “enforce” immigration law, but there IS an obligation to not obstruct federal law. If you do not believe me, Just ask Judge Hannah Dugan. FAFO

Likewise, there is no obligation from the fed to send tax dollars to local and state police agencies. FAFO

Even if your way left view point is correct, there is a thing call “cooperation”. If another state has an open warrant for someone, Metro will cooperate and detain the individual.

If we solved the immigration problem, perhaps metro wouldn’t be inundated with so many calls.

Remove the source of the crime problem, reduce the crime.

Or we can slowly watch this country become the third world from the comfort of a summerlin gated community. Whatever works bro.

11:26 and 11:28 are you serious? Did the “experts” tell you that? Immigrants came. Now everything is locked up at Walmart (except in areas inhabited by Americans and East Asians).

Immigrants cause crime. No amount of coping, seething, “experts” studies, or other crap can convince a rational person otherwise.

Pretty sure that this has nothing to do with patrols and investigating or responding to calls.

I am also sure that the “Officers” that man the CCDC have plenty of time to shoot off an email to or pick up the phone and call ICE when an illegal is about to be released.

All in exchange for that gubment cheese from DHS. Is it really that hard?

My family has lived in this country since 1630 and we’ve seen waves of immigration from every corner of the globe over the past 400 years. Guess what? The country is still here.

Those who suggest that recent immigration trends are leading to a societal collapse clearly haven’t lived in this country long enough to appreciate the benefits of immigration over the long run. Since these doomsayers have clearly just arrived, perhaps someone should look into whether they are here legally or not.

Boston Harbor? That’s where we landed. And we just kept gradually going west. We have such a long history of this cycle of immigration, xenophobia and then proven benefit from the demonized immigrants, it’s kind of exhausting to think, “We’re doing this AGAIN, huh?” The xenophobes insist that THIS time is totally different than the dozens of other xenophobic convulsions this country has had in the past.

Right now, among the immigrant families you slander as gang members, there are kids who will grow up to be exceptional jurists, medical researchers, artists, leaders, volunteers, teachers, clergy, inventors, entrepreneuers and so on. Look at the way our country benefitted from taking in the Jews that Russia drove out a century ago. You morons are trying to drive out the next Leonard Bernstein, Ruth Bader Ginsburg, Steve Jobs, Sergey Brin, Lin-Manuel Miranda, Elon Musk, Peter Thiel, etc.

FALSE.

Have you faced the reality that Biden and Obama deported actual, provable criminals, while the Stephen Miller regime has focused on people who have been doing it legally? Dismissing deportation cases against people who raised defensive asylum, and then kidnapping them at the courthouse before they can file for affirmative asylum? Putting children in zip-ties?

It’s not illegals you hate. It’s non-whites.

Come on. This is so replete with lies that I cant even deduce if you’re serious. You also fail to acknowledge that actual provable criminals are exactly that the second they enter our country without permission. Asylum is dramatically abused and falsely claimed by the thousands and you know it.

ICE has kidnapped people who showed up for the immigration appointments. They’ve kidnapped people who show up for their immigration court dates. These people were doing it “the right way” and the Stephen Miller racist squad took them anyway. Is it a lie that ICE has been dismissing cases for people who have asserted defensive asylum in order to use the expedited removal process? You sure about that?

If asylum is being falsely claimed, let that be decided by a judge who isn’t being pressured by Pam Fucking Bondi to clear their dockets as fast as possible.

All those dangerous criminal landscapers, maids, dishwashers, and janitors, pillaging the United States. They’ve invaded the USA and are cleaning up our yards, kitchens, hotel rooms, and toilets, picking our crops! For less than Americans would, if we could find any Americans willing to do the work. Shame on those criminal invaders! Those alien enemies! How dare they come here to better themselves and the lives of their families!

I’m not a fan at all of the new “bar exam”. But the most egregious part of it is the 60 hour requirement. If you’re going to have a supervision requirement, it needs to be a hell of a lot more than 60 hours. That’s one and a half weeks of work.
