Told this story a couple times – one last time and I will retire it – but Michelle Fiore came to our office and when receptionist didn't recognize her (she was not a client and had never been there before) she went apeshit and screamed "I'm on billboards all over town & you don't know me!" hahaha I thought it was funny, maybe you had to be there

Fiore's youtube video/ad is the most honest representation I've seen of the Republican Party in America and Nevada today. Guns, shootin' from the hip, trucks, beer, sneerin' at issues of race and shoving Mitt Romney over while he gives a speech on January 6 condemning the insurrection earlier in the day. YEE HAW! 'MERICA!

35% of the electorate will absolutely love that ad. Unfortunately, you can't get elected in a statewide general election with 35% of the vote. The GOP needs to take a not-so-distant history lesson and understand that you don't win statewide (or national) elections pandering to the base. She stands no chance because moderates will stay far far away and she has zero chance of swaying swing democrats. It's just poor election strategy.

11:44 AM,

Noble effort. You forgot to rattle off references to "critical race theory," and voter "fraud". I give you half credit for the free lunch reference, but deny full credit for the absence of a hyperbolic use of the word "socialism".

10:51, 35% is low. She is going to win the Republican primary. There is no precedent for a 65-35 win for either party in a gubernatorial race. She may very well lose; but it's going to be a lot closer than 65-35. And against an unpopular Democrat opponent in the current political climate, she has a puncher's chance. Don't sleep on her crazy schtick.

10:51 here. I said 35% would love the ad and didn't mean to say she'd only get 35% of the vote. I'm sure she'd get some reluctant moderate Rs to go along with her in a classic douche v. turd sandwich scenario, but not enough to win a general election.

Michele Fiore is an underdog but has more than a punchers chance to become Governor. People do not like Sisolak (including me, but I won't vote for Fiore). Fiore, for as nutty as she is, is a very gifted self-promoter and politician. The base loves her. I give her about a 65% chance of winning the Republican Primary and a 35% chance of winning it all.

She will do okay in the Primary(with support from the ultra right-wing), and, in a crowded field, will come in a respectable third place behind Heller and Lombardo.

But that's where it will end–in the Primary. Heller should come in first, with Lombardo with a strong second place finish.

Lombardo could pull off an upset and win the Primary, but it will definitely be one of those two–Heller or Lombardo.

Well, it better be that way if the Republicans wish to win the General Election against Sisolak. I do not think they want to try to win a General Election with a candidate that far to the right.

I'm interested to know why you think Heller would defeat Fiore. I must preface my comment by stating that (1) I think Dean Heller is competent to serve as Governor while Fiore is not; and (2) Dean Heller would fare better in a general election than Fiore, especially against Sisolak. Now, that said, who is Heller's base in the Primary? The Trumpers hate him. Many non-Trumpers (to the extent there are any left) don't respect the way that he capitulated and kissed Trump's ring. How does that beat firebrand Fiore? It makes no sense.

2:57-Candidates far to the right can do well in Primaries(providing they are the only real viable far right candidate in such primary so such votes are not split). Those voters further to the right are often energized and engaged to turn out for Primary Elections, while more moderate voters candidates either stay home or vote for more mainstream republicans.

That is essentially why in the Primary, Fiore may perform surprisingly well, let's say a solid third place, but I still don't believe she would topple Lombardo or Heller.

Heller also already has a huge state-wide machine and name recognition throughout the state. Fiore would need to spend millions just to neutralize Heller's state-wide name recognition in order to pull even with him. But even if she did raise and spend that kind of money, he would have far more money at his disposal to keep her from pulling even with him as to name-recognition and polling numbers.

But she could still conceivably pull of the Primary, although I doubt it. But her real problem would be that even if she did win the Primary, for an ultra-conservative Republican to win a state-wide General Election in a state which has clearly moved from purple to blue is quite a daunting task.

Also, whoever her opponent is can make hay with a those supposed tax and financial issues against her. Granted, I can't speak to the ultimate legitimacy, or lack thereof, of those accusations, and her opponents will also certainly have their own potential baggage that can be exploited.

There is also the issue of statements she has made, and which are on video, which could be characterized by the left as having some racial overtones. I am likewise not taking a position as to whether such statements were truly meant to denigrate anyone. She denies it, and I think there is more than enough doubt to give here the benefit of it as to certain instances. But just try to explain that to the emerging "New Left" that is beginning to dominate Nevada General Elections.

Thus in the General Election there will be a fra greater concentration, as far as voter turn out, of th moderate republicaans vs. the far right ultra-conservative republicans.

6:36-genrally agree. It's clear that 2:57 supports Fiore.

And yes, as both of you indicate, she's got a chance in the Primary, although I don't think it is that strong. But she's a viable dark horse.

But 2:57 appears to suggest that her chances in the Primary are quite strong, and that she in fact may be thee favorite to win. And yes, Heller has burned some real bridges within his own party. But, as 6:16 indicates, for a far-right candidate to win a state-wide election in a state which is now clearly blue, is real difficult.

But that all said, both posters make interesting points.

And the thing about politics, particularly an election that is more than a year away, is that so much can happen in the interim that all of us who posted here may turn out to be totally wrong. Perhaps Lombardo or someone else wins it.

Yes, way too early to tell, but my(utterly worthless and no doubt totally wrong prediction)is that Heller wins the Primary, but that Fiore comes in a strong second(no more than 3% or 4% points behind Heller, and probably closer than that) and that many people are surprised that Lombardo only comes in third, although, he will be nipping at Fiore's heels–no more than one or two percentage points behind her.

Heller wins the Primary(albeit a close election)because of the state-wide huge machine assembled, and that he was a U.S Senator and only lost his re-election attempt as the state turned clearly blue, but it was still a close race.

But, as 2:57 points out, he does have some serious self-inflicted political wounds that make him vulnerable.

But in the General, if you want Sisolak out, you need Heller or Lombardo as they are clearly a far more likely choice of moderate voters than the right-wing Fiore.

Fiore is by far the most colorful, entertaining candidate, and as we see that can attract many voters. So, who knows, all my predictions could be dog shit and we could wind up with a gun-toting bad-ass mama in the State House. The male candidates lack any flair or any real charisma in my book.

Fiore's initial ad(announcing her candidacy) hit all the right notes, and in an entertaining(although admittedly non-cerebral) manner.

Great ad for the Primary in a viable attempt to dominate the conservative republican voting block. But not an effective ad for the General(IMO) if she emerges form the Primary

Fiore losing by 3 or 4 points means she did not lose at all but instead was victimized by this ever present voter fraud and she should fight that one all the way.

Yes, we should. The spectrum goes from Whitmer/Newsom to Noehm/DeSantis. That is a whole lot of range, and surely we all care where on this spectrum the next Governor falls.

You think of Gretchen Whitmer on the far left? She is not. She became a lightning rod but she is hardly the most left of national governors.

Sanctions are warranted. Lets see if the judge has the ovaries/cajones to do so.

P.S. This is the epitome of Nevada's legal environment. Thank you legislators and judges.

The lawsuit does seem a bit far fetched, but wtf is 1:04 talking about? This isn't a great legal environment for lawsuits. You can't sue a doctor in this state for shit. I've had clients who were told by other doctors to hire a lawyer and sue the NV surgeon that butchered them, but bc of our laws and bs "tort reform", they have no claim.

Our family court is equally ridiculous. I have current clients owed over $50k in child support and the NV child support court sits with its thumb up its collective ass. Meanwhile law school classmates in other states are getting people thrown in jail for missing a month of child support after losing their job.

The suggestion that we have a lit friendly legal environment here is right wing fantasy. As they usually do, the facts and reality just don't support it.

You mean the Qualey Law Group website? Yes a very stripped down website with no links. I think mostly what they do is collections and evictions. I am not sure if that is Cybill's fault though.

Dotson & Qualey and now QLG does collections for collection agencies. They are not looking to add work on behalf of consumers.

@2:31 I completely understand how you could think I was insulting Cybill for saying she did collections for agencies. That was not my point. I was saying who cares what her website looks like when she is most likely not recruiting clients through her website.
