According to Transparent Nevada, the least paid public defender in clark county made about $65,000/year, plus benefits and retirement (which as a county employee he does not have to pay for his own retirement out of pocket). The entire package is about $88,000/year.
I moved here from another state and considered being a PD. I was surprised how well they paid here. That said, student loans kept me in private practice.
What do comparable DAs make? I had thought they'd be in the same range.

I know some private attorneys with PD tracks. I can't believe they keep those contracts for the pennies they are getting.

I've been a PD and practiced criminal law in retained cases. The beauty of the PD job in a well-resourced office (Washoe, Clark and Federal are well-resourced) is that you just practice law. You don't have to forego an expert or more investigation because the client can't afford it. Clark and Washoe PDs are best paid in the country. They were even better paid when they got "longevity" pay.

Anyone know that status of the NVSC review on remote hearings?
