“Clark County Judge Jacob Reynolds ruled it was legal because Filutowski’s bank, Truist, has appeared as a plaintiff in Nevada courts. Truist does not operate in Nevada.” Really?

Absolutely his rights were violated. If you have ever seen Scott Freeman in front of Reynolds on forfeiture cases, he basically hands Reynolds the rubber stamp to steal peoples’ monies. I like Reynolds for many things but forfeiture cases are one thing that he should be peremptoried on.

I predict we’ll see a lot of his rulings on various types of cases getting reversed.

While many should be I am not sure how many will. He has a former law partner on the NSC. He is just so certain and smug while being so wrong so often.

I thought Scott Freeman was a Washoe County judge? Are there two? Did he quit?

I think the person meant Scott Greenberg who handles forfeiture cases for Metro.

This is what the seminal case about jurisdiction (Trump) talks about though. Trump opened a Nevada-based trust and that was basically enough to hook Trump in personally. The case also had a forum selection clause, but that was a different consideration.

Im not saying I agree or dont agree. Im just saying it sounds like he is following current law.

Is it just me, or has the NSC Clerk’s office become unnecessarily difficult to deal with lately? It seems like our filings are being rejected for the most trivial reasons.

Yes but….. The most common bases for rejection are failure to meet the formatting modifications adopted in 2024 that no one knew about.

This is why you should try and file five days before your deadline and triple check compliance before filing.

And check *after* filing. Don’t just assume you’re good and go about your day. The court usually rejects formatting issues and will give the party an extension to file a pleading that complies with the new rules. It’s not hard.

To add to the tin foil clerk’s office posts, my firm has between 50-60% rejection rate from the Second Judicial District Court. We rented an executive suite to list as Reno address on our pleadings (but changed nothing else). About 3-5% rejection rate now.

Washoe hates us Las Vegas lawyers….kind of like how we treat California lawyers. I only run into problems when both lawyers are from Southern Nevada – that sets off a whole new level of rage up there!

I have absolutely zero sympathy for idiots who go to Pahrump or to tribal land in Moapa to buy fireworks there that are illegal in non-tribal Clark County. They knew what they were doing, and they’re upset merely because they got caught.

Yeah. Show or list what they bought. You don’t drive to foreign jurisdictions with different rules governing the sale of fireworks to buy the legal stuff. School teacher. Mom. I don’t care who you are. You got caught. Pay your fine and own your mistakes.

If the stuff was legal in Clark County, you would have gone the plywood box at the Rebel Station on the corner and bought it from Summerlin South Little League. You wanted to buy the stuff you cannot buy in Clark County because it is not legal in Clark County.

I have a firework labeled “Safe and Sane,” and manufactured by Phantom. Is it illegal in Clark County? Depends on where it was sold!

If it was sold in Clark County, it’s fine. If the identical firework is sold in Nye County, it can be confiscated by Clark County and a fine imposed. Totally consistent and logical.

But yes, absolutely put your sniveling children on camera to garner sympathy. Not only are you demonstrating that you believe the rules don’t apply to you; you’re also teaching your kids to believe that. This broad is a mother of the year candidate. And where’s the dad in all of this?

I actually did drive to Pahrump this year and only bought legal fireworks. They are about 60% cheaper there. For about $400 I was able to buy a crazy amount of giant fountains that would have cost a fortune here in town if they even carried them at all. But you have to go to the phantom store. The others most just carry the illegal stuff. The phantom store is also good if you need certain colors for a wedding or baby announcement or something. They carry it all. Not an unpleasant drive either.

“But you have to go to the phantom store.”

That’s the point of the Errol Aiken story. If you go to the Phantom store, buy something, and then cross into Clark County, you’ve violated the Fire Code. This is true even if the item is identical to one sold in Clark County. If you didn’t get it here, it’s illegal to possess here.

Sounds a little anti-competitive.
