I just read the opinion piece regarding the Supreme Court. Aren't our judges elected by the people? And when there is a vacancy, do not people have to put their names in to be considered by the governor? How many black candidates and applicants have there been for the supreme court? I am just curious because the article seems to suggest that no black attorneys have been appointed to the court and that the bar association mentioned was crying for such an appointment, citing Justice Marshall as an example. Are they wanting us to bypass elections to make that happen? Do they want a governor to choose a black applicant solely on their race?
I'm completely in favor of POC being better-represented on the NSC and COA. But one has to apply. It isn't like someone can just be picked. By the way, are applications open and is there a link to see who has put their name in?
In a truly neutral society, race should not even be a conversation, much less a qualifier. But IF you are one of THOSE diversity people, than all positions should be filled according to representation in the population: 30% Hispanic, 10% Black.
@12:09 weird cause no one making that argument has a problem with the supreme court being all male for two centuries and congress and the senate and the presidency, etc etc etc. Scientifically speaking, 51% of the population is female. Where's our 51%?
I prefer to judge individuals based on the content of their character, not the color or their skin or form of their genitals or sexual preference. That makes me a boomer. So be it.
@12:39
"scientifically speaking"
There is nothing scientific about the comment. One only need look at the composition of all Nevada courts to reach a different conclusion.
Wow I love 12:41! Before law school I did my MA work in Pol Sci and was allowed to take a PH.D. level history class. Day 1 the Professor said, paraphrasing, the easiest mistake to fall into, and what will destroy your abilty to think, is to judge the past on today's standards. We grow up driving cars which pollute. What if 50 years from now, you're 80 years old and your great-grandchildren think you are satanic and should be imprisoned for driving a gas powered Ford? One instance from my past, noooo I'm not saying it's right (please don't hunt down my IP address and cancel me) but when I was in high school we would hug a girl upon meeting and say, wow you look so pretty today – try that in law school today hahaha – I saw a YouTube thing the other day where it was on the security camer and the manager literally glanced at a female in her 20s, she exploded, why are you gawking at me, your're raping me with your eyes, etc. I know I have conflated two issues but you get the point
12:39 here – scientifically yes, humans naturally skew slightly towards female because (drumroll) the fetuses are bathed in female hormones for much of the pregnancy. It takes a massive amount of male hormones to turn a fetus male. If y'all men don't believe me, reach down and feel that little line down the middle of your balls. That used to be your vulva. In countries where male children are favored, the birth rates skew male due to sex selection based abortions. Young females also have less of a chance of surviving into adulthood due to differences in medical care, poverty levels, etc. However, due to differences in behaviors, etc, as a population ages, it once again skews female.
Sidenote – can someone please tell me where I can get treated for my presentism? Thanks.
@12:39 suffers from penis envy too, along with her stage 3 presentism.

Give me a freaking break with the identity politics. Every damn day. No one with half a brain takes that crap seriously – especially lawyers who know exactly how judges are elected in this state. If you want the job – run.

Re: Supreme Court – who wrote that article? I do not see a name – only a group. Could it be no one wanted to take credit for that nonsense?
I love your Nevada Supreme Court. Such good decisions.

The Animal Foundation is a disaster. I adopted a pet there a few months ago and waited nearly 8 hours. There was no excuse or explanation given. If you don't show up at the crack of dawn to get a number, you can't even get in line to adopt. There is no way of knowing how long it's going to take either so you can't leave and come back later. You're just stuck there. Online their jobs site shows they pay poverty wages to the front line workers. I'd rather cook fries for that than scoop poop. Maybe those administrators making $100k should be scooping poop and filling water dishes.
It was a disaster late last year and early this year as well. We had previously taken our pet there a few times for their regular shots and then, with no explanation, they just stopped giving animal shots for awhile.
I guess they started doing it again earlier this year but we're going somewhere else now; it's just suspicious the way they were acting.
The "no explanation" actually had an explanation. TAF has no money and had a mass exodus of staff. Hilarie Grey has taken it over and is making an even bigger mess of what was a mess. Christine Robinson got away with murder due to who she was in a personal relationship with.

I heard through the grapevine that Judges Tierra Jones, Susan Johnson and Jerry Wiese will probably be applying for appointment for the seat being vacated by Justice Silver.
Susan “Republican” Johnson has no shot considering Sisolak appoints the Judge. Tierra Jones would be the first black female appointed. Although appointment happens after election, so it is possible to choose someone else.
Jerry Wiese is one of my favorite trial judges. Efficient, fair, respectful, complete absence of black-robe fever. It would be a shame to lose him, but I wish him luck.
I am not sure I agree with 409. Any objective eye can see that things today, economically at least are a shell of what we had under the Trump years, even the pandemic year was solid economically.
That JB Stain cannot be helping Sisolak. There are other ways to advance your campaign. But, what can he do? He can't very well loudly disavow and distance himself from the Biden Sisolak Dream Team ads, can he?

Off topic (and out of state), but does anyone have a name for a referral for an immigration matter in Southern Utah?
Federal practitioners: Let's say you go before a judge. The judge issues an order including a questionable injunction on certain activities. You appeal the entire order, but request a stay on the injunction pending the appeal. District Court says no, but the Court of Appeals says yes, and issues the stay. Afterwards, the judge modifies the original order and eliminates the injunction altogether. Would you:
a. Feel that Judge is completely out of his/her depth?
b. Show up to the ER after suffering severe double-face-palm-related head trauma?
c. Drink heavily, knowing that this judge has a lifetime appointment?
Since I practice in Family Court, where cases are won by screaming louder and knowing the Judge, looks like you need to scream louder (assuming Federal Court is like Family Court)
Blog is dead

Just going to leave this here for anyone considering what Nevada looks like. https://www.census.gov/library/stories/state-by-state/nevada-population-change-between-census-decade.html

Applications are open and close on October 10th. There are no applicants to date. https://nvcourts.gov/AOC/Committees_and_Commissions/Judicial_Selection/News/Applications_for_Supreme_Court_Seat_F_are_now_available/
Applications are open. No applicants yet.

@12:39 "Where's our 51%?" You mean in reference to a Nevada Supreme Court that is 57.1% women?
What about prior to 5 years ago?

So the NBA article is really a pro-Tierra push.

De Castroverde. Immigration is a nationwide practice.
I heard a political ad accusing Sisolak and Justin Jones of something that's going through the courts. Anyone have any intel?
Red rock project with Kim Rhodes. He wants to build more houses and make it dense. County dodnt like it and wanted to protect red rock.

9:10 has an interesting spin on the story. I read the Indy article (above) about this a couple weeks ago. As always, Ralston's team has the most comprehensive coverage
Thanks John

Scream louder is always sage advice.
@10:04 drink moderately knowing the quality of the "judge" will change significantly when he or she gets a new clerk in a couple of years.
d. None of the above.
Maybe I'm not following, but didn't you get the result you wanted, no injunction?
