There’s not much to criticize. There’s one judge who’s unbelievably slow, but I do think he’s thoughtful and usually comes to the right result after a couple years. I’ve quibbled with the rest from time to time, but any of them would be a top 5 judge in the Eighth JD if they got de-elevated.
Why can’t we just have a normal train-based public transit system going to the airport? Why are we having individual cars going through a tunnel?? Why can’t the monorail just have a stop at the airport??? Everything I read about the Vegas Loop makes me feel like I’m going insane.
(I know the monorail didn’t go to the airport because of Big Taxi, but if the Loop is OK, why can’t we get the monorail now?)
Because it would cost a fortune on the back of the tax payers. Look what happened with the monorail. Why not just buses? it would costs a billion dollars and not make any money. The tram does not even run right at the airport. Publicly financed mass transit is a boondoggle.
No one and I mean NO ONE is politically going to advocate throwing any additional monies at the Las Vegas Monorail. The Nevada Test Site is not as radioactive as the Monorail.
The Monorail was always going to be a disaster. That said, you’re right that it at least has some function if it connects the Strip to the airport. That gets some cars off the road for traffic reduction and can help make the tourist experience that much better. I don’t think the cost/benefit works out even with the airport connection, but it’s at least a little helpful. Without the connection to the airport it made zero sense.
The monorail was better when there was free parking near the Sahara terminal. I still take it if I’m going to the MGM or Paris — I just have the rideshare, or a friend, drop me off at the Sahara first. Much better than dealing with traffic and drop-off/pick-ups at the casinos. I would take it in a heartbeat if it went to the airport.
I’m terrified of Elon’s boondoggle with the tunnel. The emergency exits are way too far apart and are not accessible at ground level. Also the bad design puts pedestrians in the traffic of the cars and I don’t trust the self-driving cars enough to actually stop in case someone (including drunk tourists) jumps out in front of them. The lack of oversight for the tunnel project is stunning. Local and state government should be ashamed.
The light rail from the Salt Lake Airport to downtown Salt Lake is fantastic. There are plenty of other cities that have also managed this feat. We should have light rail to the airport and the arenas. We need courageous politicians who focus on doing what is needed instead of doing what their big donors want.
Marta in Atlanta works well. Light rail Los Angeles works well. But no where can find anything like the Las Vegas monorail except at Disneyland in Orange County. Not sure but I think D discontinued it.
Anybody have a link to the short-term rental decision from Du?

Speaking of Du, it occurs to me that we don’t criticize the federal judges enough on this blog.
Let’s talk about a certain federal magistrate or two.

You can call Boulware by name here. It’s not a secret.
You must not work in civil defense.

You know a town with money is a little like a mule with a spinning wheel…

The monorail doesn’t belong on the Strip, it’s more of a Shelbyville idea…

Were you sent here by the devil?
No good sir, I’m on the level.
No, sir. I was sent here by the good people of North Haverbrook.

MUNI was wonderful in SF for those living there and commuting to downtown.
