As 2025 draws to a close and we welcome 2026, here’s our annual look back at some of the top stories that affected the Las Vegas legal community this year. Before we do that, thanks again for reading, commenting, and offering your input because without you, the blog is dead. As always, we’re open to your suggestions on how we can improve the blog, so if you have any comments, criticisms, ideas, gossip, or want to volunteer to write a guest post, let us know. Here’s wishing you a happy 2026! We’ll see you again next week!
Some of our top Las Vegas related legal stories of 2025, in no particular order, are:
- The “fake electors” case is proceeding again in Clark County after a Nevada Supreme Court ruling.
- After failing to get it done in the regular session, a crime bill passed during a special legislative session while a second attempt at a film tax credit failed.
- A State Bar disciplinary panel reprimanded Justin Jones, but did not disbar him as Bar Counsel had requested.
- Jon Gruden got a win with the Nevada Supreme Court.
- Judge Erika Ballou was suspended for six months without pay by the Nevada Commission on Judicial Discipline.
- Michele Fiore, who was also suspended by the Nevada Commission on Judicial Discipline, received a pardon from President Trump and appealed her suspension.
- The RJ brought back it’s Judging the Judges judicial evaluation!
- Tony Hsieh’s will or lack thereof.
- There were some interesting debates on free speech as a result of various national news stories.
- Judge David Hardy took a creative and unusual approach to combat AI-generated fictitious citations by offering a reintegrative shame option in lieu of sanctioning Cozen O’Connor attorneys.
- Craig P. Kenny and his firm hosted their last annual party after 30 years.
- Sigal Chattah is the U.S. Attorney for Nevada, wait, nope, the acting…wait, nope…hold on. To be continued.
- RIP Richard Dreitzer, Brian Harris, Jennifer Ko Craft, Matt Dushoff, Robert Sidell, Deanne Rymarowicz, Terry Jackson, Tom Burns, Amberlea Schnell Davis, and all of our other colleagues, friends, and family we lost this year.
Obviously you can search the blog or internet if you want more details on any of those or the hundreds of other stories we left off. What do you think? What did we miss? Any reflections on those events that shaped our year? What do you think will be the big stories next year? What do you expect to happen with judicial elections? What about the elections for AG and Governor? Any wild predictions about 2026? Stay tuned….
The Ballou suspension was a shanda. I said what I said.
Her suspension is fine. Her performance has been a shanda.
“Shanda” (שאַנדע) is a Yiddish word meaning shame or disgrace, often used to describe something scandalously embarrassing, like “a shanda fur die goyim” (a shame for the gentiles).
One of the most important postings of the new year will undoubtedly and indubitably be the impact of the posting of the vajaja poster. It’s influence cannot be overstated nor overestimated nor overlooked.
He has been the bane of humorless pearl clutchers in these environs, much to the amusement of us normal folk. May 2026 bring him vast material and vajerial success. PBUH.
I assumed the poster was a woman and the pearl clutchers were male. We live in different timelines.
Hahaha “vajerial”!
No one is clutching any pearls. It’s just dumb, unfunny and repetitive. But whatever, dude, if that’s what amuses you.
My girlfriend’s vajaja can’t be overestimated nor overlooked
Hahaha awesome!!
I hate HOAs but they cannot stop your neighbor from murdering you.

The unceasing search for deep pockets…
Yeah, bit of a stretch…
I have not read the complaint or any other case documents. Was the shooter a tenant or an owner? If the former, then (depending on the CC&Rs) perhaps the HOA could have taken some type of action against the owner to essentially force them to terminate the lease with this nuisance tenant who apparently was raising chickens and waiving guns around, or whatever else she was doing. It is a stretch, but given these tragic circumstances, any possible avenue of recovery should be pursued.
Adam Ganz has announced for District Court Department 13. Has Denton announced his retirement?
He’s certainly earned it. He’s been a Judge since 1997 or 1998. And he’s still an excellent Judge. Sorry to see him go if he’s retiring, but would love to still have him around as a senior judge from time to time.
Idiocy. https://www.documentcloud.org/documents/26454534-maduro-indictment-unsealed/
Finally a president who will take serious the obligation to defend us not only from foreign militaries but foreign attacks by other means e.g., drugs.
Defend us Daddy!
