Today is the last day for candidate filing for non-judicial offices. See who files at the last minute here.
DA Steve Wolfson kept quiet about aide’s theft, didn’t press charges, and then hired her back and allowed her to be involved with handling money. As of this post, he is running unopposed for reelection. [RJ]
UNLV’s president signed an agreement for a $14 million donation to the medical with the condition that he remain in his position–just after he received a negative job evaluation. [TNI]
Judge Wiese ruled in a way that could disqualify a large number of recall signatures. [TNI]
Judge Linda Marie Bell will be the new chief judge of the EJDC on July 1. [eighthjdcourt blog]
That's it, you've convinced me. I have no criminal experience on the one hand, and no political experience on the other. But this is just the opening I need to beat Wolfson, right? Who's with me?
Hope it is not a Dave Thomas check. It will bounce by about 40k.

Tweet from donald trump this morning:
It would be great for the Republican Party of Nevada, and it’s unity if good guy Danny Tarkanian would run for Congress and Dean Heller, who is doing a really good job, could run for Senate unopposed!
Tweet from Peter Alexander in response:
And, like that… Danny Tarkanian is dropping out of race against Heller b/c POTUS asked him to, per text from his wife/campaign manager. h/t @LACaldwellDC

Kiss of death is an endorsement by Trump, so there's that.

Why does Danny Tarkanian keep running, unsuccessfully, for public office? Why doesn't his wife run?

Why does a guy with Tarkanian's name recognition keep losing?

So the Grand Legacy case supposedly settled (which means Hardy cannot screw up another case). Anyone know what the resolution was?
It must be real nice to be as smart as you, and yet you remain anonymous. I guess it’s better that way, because if you reviled your true identity, then you would have to be accountable for what you say.
As a criminal law practitioner, (and putting aside the probable political side of it), it is fascinating to me to see the FBI caught in hypocritical caterwauling. So Andy McCabe gets put under oath and lies (or is at least less than candid with FBI investigtors). If you or I did that, we would be charged with a §1001 Violation at the least, which is a felony. The FBI drags targets through the mud all of the time over "lack of candor." Yet everyone is worried about his pension. When an FBI agent lies to other FBI agents, wouldn't you think that they would be subject to the same laws and charges?
Now that Gonzalez has retired as Chief Judge, does she follow Barker out the door and go make real money at JAMS since there is really nothing greater at EJDC she can attain?
The rumor I heard was that she might look at Court of Appeals when Silver vacates her seat. CoA would give her the chance to be appellate judge but not have to deal with Hard-on-esty and his bullying.
She needs to retire. She does not have a good temperament, is impatient, and clearly (and unabashedly) favors older practitioners (even though they are often the least prepared and do not follow the rules). She clearly has set up her courtroom to operate like an appellate courtroom by limiting the time practitioners get to argue, but IMHO she should retire.
@9:00 a.m. He has to limit argument in her courtroom because when you have Wynn/Okada/Adelson cases, if you did not limit argument, Motion calendar would take all day five days per week. There is a reason Federal Court and Washoe have limited to no argument on motions. And there is a BIG SIGN that says what your argument limit is. Welcome to Big Girl Court.
She will never, ever, ever run for the Supreme Court so long as Hardesty is there. She would rather needles through her eyes.
I agree that Gonzalez is one of our brighter judges who appears to have lost patience with some of the practitioners. Sometimes it seems she focuses more on "guiding" cases toward settlement than resolving the specific legal issue before her (which is frustrating but may have some benefits). Regardless, these observations are nit-picky as she is clearly one of the stronger judges at the RJC. I think her intellect, her background in district court and as a commercial practitioner would make her a perfect candidate for the CoA.
Please someone file against Wolfson. He is not fit to be the DA.

Thanks for your 2 cents worth…check is in the mail.
Give Wolfson my best.

Says the Keyboard Tough Guy @2:44 who remained anonymous. Apparently it is better to be reviled than revealed.

Robert Langford snuck in at the last minute for DA
Good news.
Fantastic!!!
Vote and check for you. I have a few more I have to write, too, for other candidates.
Go, Langford!!!!

Good, I loke Gonzalez. She applies the law.
like
Betsy would make a fantastic appellate judge. Hope she runs for CoA if not NSC in a subsequent term.
