The State Bar website lists the SG as "Non-Member Attorney Formerly Certified." He pretty much needs to actually take the bar exam like everyone else at this point or start working as the glorified law clerk he is. I realize he's hoping to get an extension of his 2-year special dispensation, but why the hell hasn't he just taken the bar exam in the last 2+ years to be safe? That just shows laziness and poor judgment.

"such as" the dude was on Harvard Law Review wasn't he? I think that counts as accomplished in anyone's book. He should still take the bar, but come on.

Editor on Harvard Law Review
Clerk for a D.C. Circuit Judge that's considered a feeder to SCOTUS
Associate in Gibson Dunn & Crutcher's appellate practice
Solicitor General of Montana

Those are stellar credentials, and quite possibly the best in the state, and I wouldn't scoff at his resume. I agree that he should take the bar though.

Take all of those stellar credentials in one hand, and take a Boyd '13 grad in the other, and see which one is a real lawyer in this state first.

Adam Laxalt could have hired Ruth Bader Ginsburg to be Nevada's solicitor general. Liberals would have still questioned her accomplishments. We are in a time of blind hatred towards anyone with an opposing point of view.

As NSB members who passed the NV bar exam we just had to pay our $450 annual dues again. How unfair this 'exception' enables out of state non NV licensed attorneys to practice to their heart's content for free or $125 for two years. Get rid of such 'exceptions' or comp. all NV attorneys that bother to comply with dues and exam requirements.

I don't quite get the point of 5:49's comment. He is receiving the exemption because he is working for a government entity. Whether the bar charges $125, $500 or $20k really doesn't really matter since the cost is paid by the Nevada taxpayers, not the lawyer personally. It would simply be a case of moving the money from one government pocket to another government pocket. Would 5:49 prefer they charge $1M and simply raise taxes on everyone to cover the budget impact?

12:21 AM: Not so. Has been state policy not to pay for license fees and CLEs for lawyers in the AG's office.

There's a funny movie in the story of John Bonaventura. I like Danny McBride (Kenny Powers) to star.

We need a 1970s American Muscle car for the Constable's car. I like the Road Runner.

I just want to see B. Rubbel do a Hasselhoff jump into the 1970s hot rod of a car in the melodrama about Bonaventura.

The whole Bonaventura fiasco is most unfortunate.

When Bobby G(Gronauer) ran the Constable's Office for 12 years, he seemed to recognize that since it was not necessarily an essential office, it was important to assure its continued existence by taking the right approach. So he made no waves, and in fact was very effective at forming positive political alliances, and got along with just about everyone on both sides of the aisle, And, as to the actual running of the office, he kept his nose to the grind stone, expected all constables to work hard and behave very honorably, and he actually made a significant profit for the office. The office was in the black by quite a bit when Bonaventura took over, who soon put it deeply in the red, and, worse yet, engaged in all the bizarre antics which have been exhaustively documented.

As a result, the Commission soon disbanded the office. It is a shame because even though a division of Metro was available to take over the duties, it must never be forgotten how efficiently it was run under Bobby G and how it always turned a profit. If I recall, Sherriff Gillespie at the time was not too keen in having Metro take over the duties, as he felt Metro was already over-stretched. So, how efficiently and timely the documents are now being served, I cannot say.

Since we know some hopelessly unoriginal, totally uncreative person will say "Thank You Bobby G for the post", please be advised that I have not even seen him for several years.
