Conine would run the office like it needs to be run and try to tackle the vacancy rate, culture, and ineffectiveness of the AGO in part because he knows what it feels like to be a client of that office. I really like AG Ford individually, he’s just been either intentionally kept in the dark about what is wrong with that office or willfully keeping himself in the dark and both are not good. Cannizzaro is smart and has life experiences that would make her sensitive to a lot of constituents, plus the DA chops may help with the rift in that office between investigators and prosecutors, but for the civil representation of state agencies Conine is my preference. Cannizzaro is a tough cookie, but the local DAs have been carrying the weight on cases without AGO help and they can keep doing so if they have to. Plus Conine has won statewide races already.
The three R AG candidates I’ve heard about don’t really have anything strong against either Conine or Cannizzaro unless the D primary gives them fodder. The (minor-ish) skeletons I know about for both may not even be an issue for most voters, but who knows. Hopefully they are careful in how they fight for the path to run. This makes me wish for ranked choice because we’d be guaranteed one or the other of Conine or Cannizzaro with that approach.
Thanks Conine
Not Conine @10:42, and if I could talk to either of the candidates I would try to discourage them because it may just not be fixable. Running a state agency is something recent legislators don’t seem to transition well into, the AG’s office couldn’t even get hearings on some bills they brought which you’d hope would be one advantage to having a former state senator at the helm.
I’m supporting Cannizzaro for Attorney General because she brings exactly what that office needs: real leadership, and deep experience in both civil and criminal law. Unlike Ford, she will be focused on governing—not just using the position as a stepping stone.
I like Aaron Ford personally, as many of us do. But his time in office has shown more ambition than attention to good governance. His focus has often been on chasing the next political opportunity, and frankly, the team he’s built around him hasn’t inspired much confidence. The office itself is ineffectual.
Ford’s ads touting billions recovered for Nevada are technically accurate—but they paint a misleading picture. In reality, many of those funds came from simply joining multi-state lawsuits and collecting the leftovers. And the $330 million no-bid contract for babysitting those opioid lawsuits awarded to his former employer, Eglet, raises serious concerns. Whether or not this kind of transfer is standard political practice, it’s still money not going to our schools or other public needs.
Cannizzaro is committed to the work of the Attorney General’s office. She’s not campaigning for the next gig—she’s running to do the job, and do it well.
Did you know Cannizzaro has a baby?
Most women have children, including most attorneys. What’s your point?
My point is that Cannizzaro has a baby. Sorry, I didn’t realize my point would be missed.
She has 3 babies. No one really cares.
what you didn’t realize is that your point is poorly made to the point of being no point
All good points (even though it was written by AI)
@10:46 am here. All the points are mine. I ran my content through a gpt to fix grammar and typos because I’m too busy to perfectly craft a blog comment. But I do feel strongly about what I wrote.
sounds like straight up ChatGPT. good eye
I respectfully disagree with your comment about “babysitting those opioid lawsuits[.]”
smug is as smug does
CanniZERO showed dems exactly where she stands over the years with key issues such as the death penalty so no thank you, hard pass. To be clear if she ends up the dem nominee I either won’t vote at all or will take a look at the republican.
“CanniZERO.” Stopped here. Didn’t read your comment because I assumed, certainly correctly, that you are a socially stunted incel trapped behind a keyboard, without any real influence or power in the real world.
That’s very convenient for you.
Im not saying there is no incel behavior in his comment, but I’m gonna need more than this to show that. don’t go racing to incel cause it sounds more like the girl who cried wolf
There is a law, irrevocably decreed from the foundations of the world, that when a person posts about “Obummer” or “tRump” or anything like unto it, that such a person is an incel. It’s science.
If BookTok has taught me anything, it’s that the girl who cried Wolf was, in fact, happy about the result.
Gee you’re absolutely wonderful Connie.
Conine
The quality of applicants for AG Deputy positions will continue to be a major obstacle because of the state’s pay scale. Counties pay much more and contribute more towards PERS. This leaves applicants who are willing to take a job despite the major pay disparity because they have other assets or sources of income, or they lack the talent to get hired elsewhere.
LOL no. It’s the lack of effectual people directly under Ford who are the biggest problem. The middle managers don’t know what they are doing.
Ford brought in and has continued to feed his toadies.
Ford is all, about Me Me Me until there is work to be done. Then it is all about You You You.
To be fair, isn’t that what every AG does?
“Attitude reflect leadership, Captain”
Its left side.
Strong side!
The deputies are fine. They lack leaders.
While I agree with Ford’s political views, anyone who has had the pleasure of working with him knows that ultimately, you will end up doing all of the work. He was rarely around and when he was in, he definitely was not focused on hard work!
Are they called screw offs?
There are good deputies, but you’re delusional if you think the terrible pay doesn’t run off a lot of the better ones.
No doubt about it. I left because of the money and lack of leadership. If I was getting good experience and was treated well for the ung-dly number of hours I put in, I would have stayed. I left and immediately doubled my pay. Would have stayed if I were treated well.
3:42- are you me? That sounds a lot like why I left. The way they treat people on top of the pay is a huge issue that hopefully the next AG will make a priority.
And now is the time to increase pay because the state needs an army of lawyers.
Ford and I were both associates in a firm. He treated me like I was his janitor. Very arrogant.
I’m pretty sure 3:42 is also me
I imagine many of us have similar stories in departures from there. And all likely stayed a little too long.
Before I opened the “fake court citations” link I assumed it was in reference to legal citations in briefing from using AI. Pro tip – use AI, but double check all citations. Sometimes the AI platforms kick out actual cases, sometimes they kick out hybrids and sometimes they kick out pure fiction. I’m “pro AI” for getting a good start on any number of things, but always requires fine tuning and rewording. Its mind boggling what AI kicks out, bit concerning it will put much of the legal profession out of business.

Death penalty for dog abusers.
There was a shotgun who actually enforced harsh penalties for animal abuse – he knew what was up: https://youtube.com/shorts/s4RwncZlrc4?si=wbbGDYergBs2HvZx
Shogun. You mean shogun.
Autocorrect, sorry about that
Shogun with a shotgun is the most effective way to prevent animal abuse
That guys voice. He should read all court orders!
