For the new courthouse the County seems to be eyeing the parking lot at Bonneville Avenue and 3rd Street.
That is my favorite place to park! Lets hope this plan goes nowhere.
I used to valet but they got rid of Valet.
To quote George McFly, Esq., “Hey you! Get your damm hands off my parking space!”
The RJC is 20+ years old; and it was mostly inadequate for its purpose on the day it opened. The elevators have never adequately served the building. And the facility has been a maintenance nightmare since Day 1.
Does anyone really believe that these moronic bureaucrats can get it right on this next try?
I remember how long it took to open – about two years or so behind schedule if I recall. Not only will I be retired, I will be moldering in the grave before this ever comes to fruition.
That is correct; by the time the project was finally completed and open, they were nearly 3 years behind schedule and multiple tens of millions of dollars over budget. But being honest; isn’t this pretty much the norm for the overwhelming majority of govenment projects? I mean, yeah, they came in on time with the dam; but that was a long time ago. Name another government project that ever stayed on time and on budget.
Sure, goverment needs these properties to operate. But government might actually be better off having these projects build by private developers and then buying the project from the private developer after it’s built.
And maybe the next project by a private developer can be named after Hardesty again and again and again. We celebrate people who do great damage to our state.
They eliminated a bank of elevators from the original design “to save money.”
Which is funny because the RJC should have double the amount of elevators it does now.
Probably true, pre-COVID. I remember the line. Not true now. So few people go to the court house now, there’s almost never a line at the elevators.
I have always waited in line at the RJC elevators.
No line at the fed courthouse, though, so maybe you practice there?
True. A former judge who shall not be named made that wise decision.
New Tower, Yes, but not downtown
The downtown space is already crowded, there are frequent traffic delays on the roads servicing downtown. Time for satellite courts. I practiced in LA and the satellite court system worked well.
And the idea of moving family court into in the same building as the civil and criminal departments already in the downtown space, a nightmare.
Regardless, add more elevators and make sure they work. I have spent more time waiting for an elevator than arguing my motion.
How about a Summerlin courthouse? Close to our homes?
Family Court was built on land so unstable they dare not add a 4th floor. Only in Nevada would we intentionally construct public buildings on unstable land.
It matches the unstable litigants.
My favorite quirk of the RJC is the river stone wall adjacent to the escalator. That was supposed to be a WATER feature. Next to an ESCALATOR. Absolutely brilliant.
If you haven’t gotten the survey yet, check your spam folder.
It doesn’t come from the RJ, it is sent from: createam@unlv.edu (UNLV Center for Research, Evaluation, and Assessment)
The only people filling these out are those who hate certain judges. The last cycle, there was a 13% return rate. So basically you hate a judge, here’s your opportunity to vent. It means nothing more than that . 13% response rate.
It’s a good thing non lawyers like the paralegals on here don’t get the email.
I filled it out, only addressing the judges I have appeared before and only addressing my personal experience with those judges, and I wound up giving most of them average to slightly above average gradings. I was a little surprised myself. But one that I would have savaged retired. Lol.
Segerblom talking about “if we can spend 100M on XYZ, why can’t we spend 100M on a courthouse?” Maybe – just NOT spend 100M on another project. They’re complaining about traffic downtown, but in the same breath talking about taking away the parking lot, and bringing the family court downtown? Mercy.
I bet Segerblom will trumpet having Jackie Robinson build the courthouse since Segerblom gave Robinson chance after chance to build a basketball arena that was never going to built.
Sounds like the Segerblom Haze talking.
