Some of those have already left, others are leaving shortly and the rest are those on a drowning ship with no place else to go.

I remember when GS was a staid and profitable firm. So boring! Jeff was right to step aside to make room for the young bucks. The results speak for themselves.

What were the results? Was GS in any financial trouble? Or was this just a case of a group of attorneys thinking the grass will be greener if they break away?

There must be someone on the inside who has an ax to grind and doesn't mind spilling some beans (if there are any).

9:57 must be an insurance defense FBU. I can almost see it sitting in some cube, the time clock ticking, hunched over the cheap computer carefully deciding where to insert the "," in some meritless motion, while the true value and meaning of the case soars overhead unnoticed. Was it a bird? Was it a plane? Or was it the fat plaintiffs verdict that you are going to choke on soon?

"…while the true value and meaning of the case soars overhead unnoticed." True. Also, because the associate is blissfully ignorant, the partner is in the dark until he picks up the file two weeks before the trial.

Yeah, very surprising pick. I thought that Pisanelli Bice was the one for this type of work. Who else does it?

Bob Borgersen is a NLV political shit disturber who pulled the same BS against a NLV mayor in 2011: ethical complaint, PR smear and failed recall petition effort, signed by Cherylnn Thomas (yes she knows Dave Thomas). Borgersen's wife chaired a NLV library district board, he liked to sit in and pipe in with input. Dave Thomas is in off campaign downtime and doesn't work for free. Mueller needs to flesh out who's paying to harass Ramsey and what their ultimate motive/aspired gain is.

I heard something about a perturbed policeman or fireman group re: Ramsey.
Dave Thomas' candidates always manage to get endorsements from those groups.

Judge Ramsey filed an emergency petition for an injunction to stop the recall. Her case is assigned to Judge Denton and scheduled for a hearing Monday. Ramsey's legal basis for challenging the recall is that judicial officers are not subject to recalls. RJ has article posted. Any election law experts out there care to comment on whether or not judges are subject to recall elections?

Ramsey’s court complaint names the city, the city clerk and members of the committee Remove Ramsey Now, asking the judge to bar them from continuing the recall. So is the city employee expecting the city to pay costs of defense? If Thomas's wife, Nancy Allf, got sued in her government employees capacity, Thomas wouldn't want to pay costs of defense out of his own community property funds, she would ask county to pay. Why does he say it was unreasonable for Judge Ramsey to ask the city to pay for her cost of defense in a suit from a dismissed assistant? Oh right, the husband of the employee was a police chief.

You see Judge Israel threw a family lawyer into jail for a day? What was the guy thinking daring the judge like that? Family lawyers are so used to yelling at each other and their judges they don't realize other judges don't play.

Am I the only one who would love to be on a jury? I always wonder what they are thinking while I sit twiddling my thumbs. Hell, I wouldn't even say anything in the deliberation room. I'd just be studying them….. I think I may have a problem.

Kurt Smith learned hard that there's a time and a place to make a smart ass comment and that wasn't it.

A judge putting a lawyer in jail is way out there. The attorney was a jerk but the judge went over the top in doing this to another lawyer. Before being on the bench, Ron Israel was a practicing lawyer and should have some understanding on how hard it is to make a living as private attorney.

So far two of my predictions about fellow Boyd alums have come to pass. I predicted Stubbs would end up in trouble as well as Smith just based on volatile behavior at school. Anyone remember when the latter attempted to run for president of the Organization of Women Law Students and pitched a fit on the listserv about it? He created his own organization after that called "LOKI" (Logicum Ordinatio Khaos Informatio) and his concession speech email after losing his bid to become the OWLS president is a particularly interesting piece of work.

I'm with you 10:09 – I'd love to be on a jury just to see how things play out!

What really irks me is that this attorney's conduct was nowhere near all of the b.s. that most of the (elected, pandering) judges will put up with every day and thereby force the rest of us who are actually respectful to have to put up with also. You know, opposing counsel making personal attacks, rolling their eyes while you're arguing, signing heavily, arguing with the judge, repeatedly not showing up for depositions, engaging in harassing discovery, all that kind of crap. In comparison, this sounds like nothing but a pissing contest between two overheated dogs. Great use of taxpayer money, judge!

Any attorney who bitches about jury duty should find another line of work. It means you either a)think you're better than everyone or b)have contempt for our the jury system as a whole. Either way the rest of the legal community would be better off without you.

Holy moly, Kurt Smith's lengthy e-mails to the list serve were so obnoxious when he was running for OWLS president. It was like five or six emails a day. Ever since then, I've always thought of him as an obnoxious piece of shit. Then I litigated against him in practice and that was confirmed. The dude is at home in family law.

The Reno office of Gordon Silver is in its entirety one of the last groups to leave Jones Vargas, and may have been the final nail in that particular coffin. The current Reno office of Fennemore Craig is in its entirety the remainder of the Jones Vargas Reno office (Fennemore apparently not having had a Reno office before picking up the threads of Jones Vargas.) An apparently reliable source at Fennemore tells me that negotiations are in progress to reunite the Reno office of Jones Vargas in their same space under the Fennemore banner. I have to feel like that must be generating some awkward introductory lunches, which I wish I were attending.

So the lawyers in JV who rebuffed FC or whom FC rebuffed are now joining FC? Unusual; you usually don't get do-overs like that but the Reno JV/FC/GS lawyers are decent people and I hope it works.

And I'm the only person that giggles every time I read Dickinson?
