I just dealt with Melanie last week; she was a force and I view this as a terrible blow to LACSN (not to mention a terrible tragedy for such a young woman and her family). This story puts a lot of the other daily distractions into perspective.

I don't mind Lucy Flores being an attorney, even with her criminal history. I do not want her in public office making even one decision that could affect me. I do not trust her judgment. And the fact that she is a Reid protege a la Dario Herrera the phony great Hispanic hope)encourages me to run to the nearest exit. Harry has shown incredibly poor judgment and obvious vetting inadequacy before he endorses anybody.
Harry isn't endorsing her. She showed she couldn't handle a campaign manager, let alone a contested campaign, so Reid's endorsing the Other Great Hispanic Hope, Kihuen. The only reason Lucy is still in this thing is because she hitched her wagon to Bernie's star, and Bernie sent out a fundraising email to his supporters. Hell, when volunteers had to come up with her positions on issues for a website, they copied and pasted things from Elizabeth Warrens' and Bernie Sanders' websites. She may be a decent lawyer. Doubtful, since she hasn't actually practiced much law since getting hired/elected. But she's a lousy candidate and would be an absolute disaster were she given actual power.

The loss of Melanie Kushnir is tragic. She did a terrific job for pro bono and was a pleasure to deal with. So sad.
I worked at LACSN between my 1L and 2L years. I was always impressed at how friendly she was to me, even though I was a lowly intern.
