Primary Election Day

  • Law

The moment of truth has finally arrived: it’s Primary Election Day! Polls are already open and will be until 7 p.m. tonight. A little over 10% of registered voters voted in early voting which may not sound like much, because it isn’t. With record low turnout a possibility, every vote counts.

If you need to find out where to vote, click here. If you’re still asking which judges you should vote for or which judicial candidates you should avoid, type “primer” in the search box on the right and see our posts about all the contested judicial races in Clark County today. You can also check out edjudicateclarkcounty.com and ournevadajudges.com for more information.

Finally, feel free to make a last minute pitch for your favorite candidates below.

I'll save you some work. Here are my picks for the contested judicial races: 2-Scotti; 22-Johnson; 24-Hardy, Jr.; 28-Israel/Bush; B-Femiano/Winesett; C-Burton; J-Hughes; L-Gaudet; P-Gibbs; T-Maskall. And although it isn't a judge, I think Sheriff should be Burns or Moody. The ones where I listed two names, I think I'll flip a coin.

I have the exact same ballot. I'll be voting for Burns for Sheriff.

Close, except that I think sheriff should be Burns or Lombardo and could not vote for Maskall.

I agree with 8:02, however, I voted Bush, Dept. 28; Winesett, Dept. B; Lynn Hughes, Dept. C and I voted for Burns for Sheriff.

My picks are pretty similar to 8:02's 2 – Scotti, 22 – Johnson, 24 – Crockett, 28 – Bush, B – Winsett, C – Burton, J – Huges, L – Perry (her website notwithstanding), P – Gibbs, T – Maskall. Bobby G got my vote for Sheriff.

Scotti, Bush, and Hughes are a hell no.

So who do you propose instead, and why?

Better candidates in the race. Scotti is weird. Watkins is a better choice. Israel over Bush. She is too green. Hughes cannot maintain her composure. This blog is very helpful to me in my law practice, and for who to vote for.

Watkins is well-respected trial attorney. Intelligent, and I like his hair do, or hair did.

I cannot vote for someone who's own mother has come out and endorsed their opponent.

I was very tempted to vote for Bruce Gale for the sole reason that I feel confident Johnson will survive the primary and I would love to see Hafter be defeated in the primary so as to remove any chance he will be elected in November.

I fought the same dilemma myself. I voted for Johnson instead. The reason is I could not live with myself if Johnson did not make it though the Primary and it came down to a Hafter and Gale race.

Let's see, do I vote for the mediocre judge, the ridiculous gadfly, or the perennial candidate? Too bad there is no "none of the above" option.

There are a ton of judges who I voted for no one e.g. Dave Thomas' crew, and no, not Wendy's restaurant.

Why did you keep referring to him as John Glenn Watkins? Was John Glenn the astronaut or the rhinestone cowboy?

I am not sure I understand the question. His name is John Glenn Watkins. When I have been at events, he refers to himself as, "John Glenn Watkins, the horse-shoe throwing champion of 1997.” Those are just the facts and they are very relevant to the man who calls himself, "John Glenn Watkins."

Yes, because being a horse-shoe throwing champ is so relevant to being a judge.

I am sorry, I thought you were referring to him in his full name for humor's sake.

I would never make fun a John Glenn Watkins. You have to give full respect to any man who becomes the Clark County Horse-Shoe throwing champion of 1997. That is the kind of individual I want sitting on the bench. Everyone should inspire to be like John Glenn Watkins…

Hafter is down but not completely out – 15k votes to Johnson's 50k.
Tony Liker can take down his ads – I mean, signs now. It's down to Crockett and Hardy.
Susan Bush made a surprisingly good showing. It'll be her and Israel in November.
Dept. B is a cluster, with Linda Marquis taking the top spot.
Rena Hughes beat out Pollock in number of votes, but it'll still be those two fighting it out in November. Wouldn't be surprised if she takes it.
