Ethical to campaign in uniform?
No, Not in my view. However, incumbent judges campaign wearing robes, while other candidates for judicial office cannot. If the latter is proper, then so is the former.
The words we use have a powerful effect on the way we think. Do you have any friends or relations who call themselves "conservatives" or "Republicans"?
Suggest to them that they use the terms "populist" or "nationalist" instead, because conservative and Republican have ceased to be meaningfully distinct from liberal and Democrat.
Once they get in the habit of calling themselves populist or nationalist, they will be on the path to thinking more clearly about exactly who is the enemy and what the enemy wants for the country, and for them.
And by populist or nationalist you mean xenophobic racist? Enemy? You're insane. Put your hood back on and go back under the rock from whence you came.
I will not name the parties but there was a race in which a Muni Court judge, a Family Court judge and 3 private practitioners were all running for the District Court bench. 2 of the 3 private practitioners were by far the most qualified candidates. The 2 judges won in the primary because they ran as "Judge ______" and were able to put up billboards with pictures in robes while the private practitioners could not. It is a screwed up system.

Looks like Gus Flangas might be regretting taking on this Northern Nevada brothel owner's case. It appears that client management might be a serious issue in this case as this guy is defiant and will not likely comply with any court orders. Just not worth the dough.
@11:45 Not exactly sure what you mean by "speaks to the kind of guy that Gus is" please elaborate.

I need help. I am a moderately experienced divorce lawyer. Yesterday a new female client was attacked by her husband and almost killed (severe injuries requiring surgeries, hospitalization, etc.). Q1: I want to find out if the husband will be charged and what the charges are. I do not want to call the police and somehow be accused of interfering or obstructing or some weird thing I am not aware of. Who would I call? What would I ask? Q2: He wrote many emails threatening death. How do we file to get him charged? Any criminal atty out there that could offer any help? Thank you in advance!!
You won't get charged for calling the cops. In handling divorce cases with a crim element, I've even handed over evidence and put the cops in touch with eye witnesses that they didn't know about.
Your client should file a police report regarding the threats and the attack. You can assist her, but she needs to file it. The cops do the investigation and then refer the matter to the DA. You can file a TPO if you haven't already. TPO should cover the wife, kids, home, her work, etc.
You need to work with the police to lock up that POS. You can’t get in trouble. 11:23 is correct, but stay on those cops. You really want to work with the DA. I am sure you have a friend that is a DA or knows a DA. Be relentless.
Not OP, but kodus and thanks to 11:23, 11:45, and 2:32 for the really helpful answers and information. I learn a lot just by reading the questions and answers from everyone on here. Thanks all for making this a good place 😀

Having a real hard time finding any sympathy for the poor, poor hotel owners – I mean, Vacation Home Renters – who decided to operate mansions as full-time hotels in residential neighborhoods without the necessary permits, inspections, etc.

I think a challenge Sheriff may encounter is that two apparent major issues, that he could otherwise hammer Sisolak on, have now largely been rendered fairly ineffective–in that people simply don't want to hear about these matters any longer.
1. One issue is the pandemic. Had it been a year ago, Sisolak could have been hammered on for the pandemic issues, as a lot of people were aggrieved with how he, and many other governors, were handling(or not handling ) the various manifestations of the pandemic issue.
But now, we have kind of turned a corner, or at least want to believe we have, and people are returning to a greater semblance of normalcy in their day-to-day lives, and they are simply no longer blasting Sisolak on his handling of the pandemic. In fact, most people now seem to acknowledge he has done okay on the issue, which, admittedly, is not an analysis based on him objectively improving performance on the matter, but simply that people are good and sick to death about the issue, and no longer want to hear politicians attacking each other as to the other being less effective at it, etc.(Of course this observation conveniently ignores a possible growing crisis concerning a return to previous pandemic crisis or worse. But my point is that at this juncture, people don't want to hear too much about the pandemic in political elections).
So, if Lombardo attacks Sisolak for the pandemic handling, good issue a year ago, but definitely not a good issue any longer.
2. Also, obviously the Sheriff has a huge built-in law and order pulpit, but, again, timing is everything. If he hammers too much on law and order(and that Sisolak and other democrats are supposedly too law on this issue) that will be a very tone deaf approach based upon dramatic societal changes over the last couple years.
A tough on crime approach is now largely determined(by a huge section of the electorate) as an insensitive and callous dialogue which ignores, or attempts to justify, disproportionately unfair treatment of minorities, etc.
That is how it will be viewed and interpreted by many even though the Sheriff would admittedly have the best of intentions(public safety) when advancing such an approach.
But, as we all know, perception is the reality–and even more so in politics.
11:22-Agree with your points if in fact those are the two main issues Lombardo advances–Lombardo's Law And Order cred., and Sisolak's handling of the pandemic.
But I think you assume too much when you essentially announce that these are the two main campaign issues that Lombardo will advance. I don't believe those two issues will dominate his campaign.
I think he will have a multi-layered campaign embracing many state-wide issues beyond the pandemic and crime control(such as schooling issues, a gazillion budgetary concerns, etc.).
That said,I acknowledge that the campaign is guaranteed to include at least some focus on how Sisolak approached the pandemic. And, yes, it is hard to imagine a campaign by Lombardo that did not include some focus on crime, accompanied by the observation that the Sheriff remains committed to keeping us safe, as he has strived to do since he took office, etc.
11:22, 11;49, an acquaintance recently offered the view that with the woke culture taking over, and with Nevada clearly turning blue and our electorate becoming increasingly younger and with a hefty advantage in democrat registration over republicans, that Lombardo would be well advised to really dial down on any law and order rhetoric.
And I can't say this acquaintance is wrong. Which also means that 11:22, despite seeming somewhat pompous, opinionated and didactic, is also largely right as to some pitfalls Lombardo's camp would be wise to avoid.
12:33 According to all available statistics – I am afraid about 99.923% of Anti-Vaxxers will survive any exposure to the various C-19 variants, to play a pivotal role in any upcoming public debates/elections. But its good that you are so self-absorbed that you want people to die because you deemed them to be politically antithetic to you. Good times…Good times.
1233 and 118, so glad you are happy to see others suffer and die. Albeit, from the flu. You both should be ashamed of yourselves.
But, just wait for another attempt at a lockdown and see how that flies. After, the SNHD floated their mask "recommendation" as a test balloon, just wait, I wouldn't be in the slightest bit surprised if they tried to lock us down again.
Sisolak CANT do that and have a prayer for re-election.
All Lombardo has to do is compare his handling of 2020 riots vis a vis other major metro areas and he would have a very solid chance against the incumbent.
2:38-true that if Sisolak shuts us down again, it is all over as to his chances for re-election. You hit the nail squarely on the head with that one, and earn a gold star.
But as to your point that Lombardo needs to emphasize how he handled the 2020 riots as opposed to how they were handled in other cities, I don't know.
I tend to agree with 11:22 and 11:49 that in our current woke culture, wherein our Nevada electorate is turning very blue and younger and younger, any major law-and-order, crime control focus of his campaign, could back-fire very serious.
And yes, that also includes any argument that he controlled a lot of the disruption and bloodshed a lot better than other cities. The details wont matter much. If he puts a lot of focus on how he controlled crime as sheriff, that will not work unless it's an election where older conservative republican voters really mount a major comeback and turn out in droves.
2:49, and those conservative republican voters are still out there in sufficient numbers that they can affect elections in Nevada.
The problem is that in recent elections, culminating in 2020, many of those conservative and republican voters did not bother to vote, while the democrat base was very energized and turned out in healthy percentages.
It's not as if most Nevada republicans are aging out of the voter demographics, and dying off or retiring to other states. They just tended to stay home, while the democrats turned out at a good clip.
But yes, Nevada is turning blue, but it is not to the extent it may appear, providing that the republicans become as energized as the democrats. There are still enough republicans to make a difference, providing they actually vote.
238, I sadly disagree Sisolak will hurt his reelection chances if he shuts down again. The seeming record level unfilled jobs show people don't want to work. And, we all know another shutdown would come with it an extension of unemployment incentives to keep folks voting blue.
Whether Sisolak wins re-election at this point depends entirely on whether the Nevada GOP nominates a sane candidate or a Trump nutter (I'm betting on the latter, which is very sad because Sisolak sucks).
The biggest challenge the Sheriff may face (that hasn't been discussed on this post yet) is whether it was in fact his voice on the infamous recording discussing his personal animus towards his daughter's African-American boyfriend.
@12:33 and @1:18 wishing death on people who have a different view than you do? How mature. Well, maybe karma will teach you a serious lesson.

Well, Boris Johnson just announced that this loophole will be closed in September, and the only way anyone will be able to get into virtually any public place will be with proof of vaccination.
This was not some decision that was made on the fly. This was always the plan.

@8:28 Cheeto Jesus? So you're mocking someone's skin color? Sounds like you're a racist.
I'm not triggered at all. I'm not a snowflake liberal. I just like throwing leftist BS back at them. Everything is racist now. This week's entry into what is racist is asphalt.
That's how triggered people cover when they get triggered, snowflake. You are just mad that Cheeto Jesus being vaccinated doesn't fit the same narrative as the stolen election.
Cheeto Jesus can't be pro-vax because Dems are and they stole the election. Even if he is vaccinated. Even if it saves lives. Can't agree with a liberal because the narrative doesn't allow for liberals to save lives after stealing the election. And when I say narrative I absolutely mean "stolen Nazi propaganda playbook."
Whatever happened to the "covid is a liberal conspiracy to make 45 look bad" people? Sure hasn't aged well given that more and more restrictions are popping up.

@8:28 Cheeto Jesus? So you're mocking someone's skin color? Sounds like you're a racist.
You sound "triggered".
> So you're mocking someone's skin color?
When it's sprayed on, it's fair game

Whatever happened to the "covid is a liberal conspiracy to make 45 look bad" people? Sure hasn't aged well given that more and more restrictions are popping up.
