If you ask most solid attorneys why they like certain judges that they list among the best, they will seldom say something like "because he/she usually rules in my favor."

They will usually say things like the judge is "really well-prepared", "treats everyone well in court", etc.

And really, that's all we can realistically ask for. A judge of mediocre legal intellect will probably never become a beaming legal wizard.

But if they have fully reviewed the filed papers, and are fairly patient and decent with the attorneys, I'm good.

And by that standard, McGroarty hit it out of the park. Well-prepared, and extremely patient and nice.

Had a recent hearing where a judge had not read the motion, had another hearing where the judge was impatient and condescending, and yet a third hearing where the judge nether read the papers nor treated anyone with any patience.

So, whether we win or lose a hearing, if a judge has read the papers, and listens patiently, that is critical IMO.

Agreed. I've had some rulings that I absolutely disagree with, but at least my client felt they'd been heard and nobody was mistreated in court. It's also helpful if I can at least explain to my client the legal basis for the judge's ruling.

I appeared many times in front of Judge McGroarty. The prosecutors didn't like him because they felt he was too easy on defendants, but he always was willing to put a person in a program or give them a break on probation. Sometimes it didn't work out but sometimes it did. I am sure there are many defendants that got their act together because of the chance they were given. He was a good man and will be missed.

11:02–yes, there are some judges who are neither prepared, nor patient with the attorneys.

And we know who they are.

In the spirit of Halloween, ahs anyone read Ed Dutton’s excellent book, Witches, Feminism, and the Fall of the West?

Dutton examines the history of witches and explains that while the fantasy version of them is probably not true, the real witches exist, and they haunt us to this day. The real witches today are the women who engage on social media tantrums about the latest left-wing fads. These are the women raised on the toxic brew of feminism and cultural Marxism.

Now, you may prefer to think of these women as victims of modernity or you may think they are in league with Old Scratch. As is often the case, the explanation for objective reality is not as important as the acceptance of objective reality. In this age, that reality is we are plagued with witches who have grown so confident that they now operate out in the open, immiserating the decent with their foul opinions. The result is we all must now become witch-hunters, to cleanse the land of their stench.

Is it worth $24.99 on Amazon or should I have my wife check it out at the library for me? Easy read?

Who are they?

I mean I can think of a couple, but I don't know if you and I are thinking of the same ones.

Judge John McGroarty's funeral information:
A public funeral mass will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Nov. 8 at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Church, 1811 Pueblo Vista Drive.

Someone asked yesterday for this information. I externed for him right before he retired. A gracious, and intelligent man. When I worked for his department, everyone was kind and welcoming. I miss working there. Judge loved his job. He loved his family, and the law. My thoughts and prayers go out to his family. So sad to hear about his passing. A truly good man.
