I thoroughly enjoyed the 9:34AM question yesterday and the discussion it generated. Would love to see more of that type of discussion in the future!

I appreciate the effort involved in coming up with topics. And speaking of marijuana, how are law firms, government offices, public interest entities, the judiciary, and others dealing with pot-smoking attorneys? Does anyone other than Clark County drug test attorneys as a condition of employment? Any restrictions by firms on pot use outside of working hours?

I was told unofficially by a partner at the national firm I work at that firm management doesn't care as long as (1) you don't do it at work and (2) it doesn't interfere with work. Seems reasonable enough to me.

I'd get that in writing before partaking if you really value your job.

Not 3:11, but if you're talking national firms, I don't know a single biglawyer who has ever been drug tested. I can't imagine any national firm caring.

I don't work at a national firm, but my bosses don't care as long as we are not high at work. We had a discussion about it at a staff meeting. Essentially, if someone gets a DUI during work hours for marijuana (or alcohol for that matter), there would be an issue. We are not allowed to use marijuana at work or during the lunch hour. However, we are allowed to have a drink at lunch so long as we don't return to work stinking of booze or drunk. Seems fair to me.
