The quote in the RJ is pure Israel: “Well, you know, I mean I can do it and yeah there are some rules and etc. and blah blah blah and you know I dont have a crystal ball to know that I need to know the law or when I will violate the law again.” This is why he is a turtle and has the tough hearings always on his Chambers calendar. He hates it when people get to see how he makes his sausage.

AB3 signed, so the arb cap goes from $50k to $100k January 1, 2026.
The version of the bill that I last saw, which I believe to be the final, sort of left that up to the Nevada Supreme Court as I recall. The current $150/$2k structure is fine for the little cases, but I would think that cases in the 50-100k range are going to require quite a bit more work and the compensation structure needs to so reflect.
If you’re a District Court arbitrator and are doing it for the money, get your practice straightened out. Sitting as a court-appointed arbitrator is akin to pro bono work. Anyone doing it because they need the money isn’t managing their practice well.
I doubt anyone is trying to make a living out of being a District Court arbitrator. But if they leave it to the discretion of the arbitrator, I’m guessing we will see some bills of $40k+
Dick move closing a hearing without following proper procedure. Oh well, rules for thee not me.

Arb awards are no longer admissible and attorney fees go from 3k to 15k.
Having presided over many short trials I can say pretty confidently that admission of the arb award usually has zero influence on what the jury does.
Does anyone know what the maximum limitation for compensation of the arbitrator is going to be?

The Arb commissioner has power to increase fees, but it is on a case by case basis.
Looks like the legislation anticipates the Sp. Ct. will make rules (which is the way it should have been) to set arbitrator compensation

$15k for arb and then another $15k for short trial?
