I miss Beecroft. He was pretty damn good at his job and, IMO, his shoes have yet to be filled.

Looks like a strange cult. Only question is when the orgy breaks out.
The party starts when Nancy Allf shows up in her tired Christmas elf suit.
Good luck to the July bar takers. The Bar just canceled the MBE portion of the exam. Just essays and 2 performance tests.
As we dumb down the bar even more. Dort hire am attorney higher than 10000 bar number.
Compared to the dinosaur shown here, who can hardly use a computer.
Poor 1:52, ageist. You must be fun at picnics. Pass the Boyd 09 salt shaker.
Where's the order doing this? I couldn't find it and I don't the the bar examiners can just do this by themselves.
https://nvbar.org/wp-content/uploads/Order-re-July-2022-Bar-Exam.pdf
The July 2007 exam takers hit 10000 with their bar numbers around the last names starting with C. I do start to side eye anyone with a 12000 and higher number, but 10000 includes some 15+ year folks.
8:19 — FYI, the 10000 Bar number threshold was crossed nearly 15 years ago. The MBE was eliminated (I agree, bad idea) in 2020. This year, we crossed the 16000 Bar number threshold.
3:12 – the MBE wasn't eliminated in 2020 – not given due to COVID when exam had to be given remotely. It was given in July 2021 when they gave the exam in person.
Ask your Nevada Supremes? Ask your Bogs?
Dumbing down the bar exam: Elimination of the MBE is huge. This will no doubt make the bar easier. If it keeps Nevada away from the UBE and reciprocity that will be a good thing. There were two dissenters to the Court's order. There is a group studying the bar exam. This was apparently a result of that group.
What was the finding that lead to cancelling the MBE? I don't understand the rationale.
The Board of Bar Examiners (at least a majority of Michael E. Buckley, John P. Desmond, Dawn Ellerbrock, Dean J. Gould, Hon. Tierra Jones, Nancy Rapaport, Shawn B. Meador, Eileen O’Grady, Jacey Prupas, Hon. Bridget Robb, Robert Salyer, and Hon. Jennifer Togliatti) said that in order to validly grade an essay-only exam, each essay would need to be graded twice. They called this the enhanced grading procedure (EGP).
Aug 2020 exam: EGP, no MBE
Feb 2021 exam: EGP, no MBE
July 2021: MBE, no EGP.
FEB 2022: EGP, no MBE.
The general consensus, according to the order, was that using another data point of "EGP, no MBE" would be useful.
The dissent, which shows a passing familiarity with statistics, points out that no, that's not really helpful. What we need is an exam with both EGP and MBE, and then check the passing rates both with the MBE and without.
Thank you for the post. I do not support anyone who dumbs down the bar. Unfair to the rest of us.
The supposed purpose of the bar exam study that was undertaken by the Supreme Court commmittee was to determine the validity of MBE scores to the practice of law. It is not clear why they are singling out the MBE. I gather the examiners don't like the MBE. The former Dean of Boyd was pushing for diploma privileges, UBE and reciprocity. I am not sure why they can't leave the bar exam alone. What is the urgency? Every state needs a licensing exam for the licensing of attorneys hence the bar exam. As the dissent pointed out, virtually every state uses the MBE.
Not only unfair, 9:57, but drastically lowers the quality of attorneys in our state. It will welcome those who can't pass a bar elsewhere to practice in NV. Is it because UNLV has low bar passage rates? Is this all a means of trying to make UNLV look better to improve its falling ranking? So, they dumb down the bar to improve the ranking. That is exactly the type of backwards thinking and deception I expect from the powers that be. The former UNLV law school dean was a carpetbagger with no interest in improving Nevada's legal profession, only his own interests in improving the ranking by skewing the figures. Is the new dean any better? Doubtful.
12:03, explain what you mean by Boyd's "low bar passage rates"? Had you actually reviewed even an iota of data prior to publishing your diatribe against Boyd, you would have seen that in 2020 (the most recent report available) the passage rate was 74.8% for Boyd students sitting within one year of their graduation. Compare that to the average pass rate for Nevada for ABA approved law schools (66.2%), it appears Boyd grads actually did markedly better.
Considering you are probably a Fowler or McGeorge grad, it is understandable you are bitter about Boyd's ranking (albeit their overall ranking is not as great as it once was, I still believe they are #1 in legal writing). However, there is no reason to throw stones… If anything, the removal of the MBE decreases the chance of reciprocity in the future and prevents against the "lower quality" attorneys being about to simply waive into practice here.
I did look. The passage rate, from what I recall, was not on the first try. That piece of information was (conveniently?) omitted. Try again, troll.
1:36, try again (troll). It appears you (conveniently?) omitted that information while reading the ABA reports. Report 13b of the ABA disclosures shows each school's bar passage rates for "First Time" test takers only. According to the ABA, in order to qualify as a "first time" test taker, the student must be sitting for the bar for the first time – regardless of jurisdiction. In 2021, Boyd's "first time" test takers passed at 73.86%. Meanwhile students from other ABA schools passed at 68.53%. Next time spend a little time doing research and thinking critically before hammering on the keyboard.
What ever happened to Dean Hamilton anyway? It seemed like his departure was weirdly abrupt, yet I haven't seen any updates on where he's currently at.
