The Chief Judge election was between Judge Wiese and Judge Susan Johnson.
Ordinarily, the issue of who the Chief Judge will be is an internal, administrative matter which affects the other judges a lot more than the rank-and-file attorneys.
However, there have been times where a pro-active Chief Judge initiates protocol and procedures which do, for good or bad, affect practicing attorneys to a notable extent.
Can you guys think of times and circumstances where a Chief Judge did have a real impact on how we practice?
I really liked Jennifer Togliatti was chief judge. Better than even Linda Bell. She would actually call you back. Very nice lady. Wish she was appointed to the federal bench.
Honestly every chief going back to Ritchie has been a good, effective Chief Judge. Kathy Hardcastle was very nice but effectively chief because she was a neutral choice. Betsy was really good but was totally Tracey Flick when she was chief.

If I really had to throw my uninformed opinion into the mix, I'd start by questioning whether there is a licensing fee for using the MBE, and how much it costs to have each exam double-checked and then triple-checked in case of discrepancy and then quadruple checked by the exam writer in case of a near-fail. We should have ample data points on those, correct?
2019 Annual Report: $764,410 in Admissions costs against $746,200 in Admissions revenue)
2020 Annual Report (No MBE, either exam): $629,800 in expenses against $865k in admissions revenue)
2021 Annual Report (1 MBE): $743,800 in expenses against $761,400 in revenue.
Wow. I guess I should read those reports. I had no idea they were bringing in that much in admissions revenue. Good point on the MBE too. What a grift.
Sorry English major posting again. This is the second time I've seen the word "grift" on this blog. It is archaic mostly used around 1905-1915 (yes, I Googled it for details). Just curious if it is the same person posting? That would be odd if two people from the small group of posters used the same archaic word from the underworld of the early 20th century. Just a random thought. PS I knew my English degree would help me someday haha
I think the difference is that the exam was given remotely so there were not convention center rental expenses in 2020 (July) and it was given in person in 2019 and July 2021. Plus not sure whether the BBX went to LaJolla for regrade during covid. MBe's probably in there but these others are too.
11:52 – grift is a common word on Twitter. It's not very esoteric: "grifters" is a somewhat popular John Cusack/Anjelica Houston movie from the early 90s.

Huh. Funny, that.

12:00 thanks. So what you're nicely saying is that I'm out of the loop and getting old. I agree haha
YES! Free speech may prevail. Musk to buy Twitter.
Treffinger for DA and Chattah for AG, can you imagine the chaos?
And Joey Gilbert for governor. What a group that would be.
If Chattah stays away from abortion, I could vote for her.
Before you say that, I'd suggest you talk to people who have dealt with her in court. All hat, no cowboy…
Sigal was cordial when I met her. Definitely better than Tisha Black.
I've never known her to be cordial. My experience has been the opposite of cordial.
I have actually seen Sigal try a case (not bad but not great) has Black ever been to court?
