Does anyone use postage-printing software other than Stamps.com? I want to be able to print certified mail labels at the office, without paying their $25/month fee, plus buying their labels.
I bought a bunch of envelopes from http://www.certifiedmailenvelopes.com/ and use them for sending out certified mail. If for some reason the URL gets blanked out, it is the three words 'certified' 'mail' 'envelopes' combined, no spaces, with a dot com at the end.
NSC opinion out re discipline of Kym Cushing. Seems like he got off relatively easily given the facts.
Do you have time to give brief summary? Trying to read this on my cheap Android phone.
Lie to your partners. Embezzle money from them. Put client in harm by enlisting client in your attempts to cover up the embezzlement. Lie to the State Bar. Lie to the lawyer who is representing you in front of the State Bar, causing him to make incorrect statements to the State Bar. Get a cushy punishment, blow it, and lie to the NSC about it.
Get suspended for 9 months.
Who do they know?

It seems to me that the reason for the soft response by NVSC/Bar was that he stole from his law firm and not a client, and that he lied to his attorney and the Bar – i.e. nothing was in relation to a client's interests. I don't think that justifies the small punishment but that's the one thing I can see different than those who bounce an IOLTA check, take money from client settlements, etc.
I've also sensed that NVSC/OBC have been pulling the throttle back on punishments since Hunterton left. There seems to be a lot more diversion and stayed suspensions, which is good for everyone, especially clients and the public.
Whatever happens, Cushing probably isn't getting another shot once he's reinstated. At least he's probably not getting a shot with any legitimate firm. I've heard people who've worked with him over the years say that many of these things have been problems for Cushing for a very long time and that he's always figured a way to wiggle out of them or have others help him wiggle out.
In my dealings with him he's seemed reasonably competent as an attorney but unnecessarily difficult and snotty.
3:48— I get that logic except you then look at Nelson Cohen who stole from his law firm (and did not have the multiple lies and violation of the NLAP Order of the Court) and got cooked for what Cushing did.
4:05– Your sense is exactly correct. Hardesty went WAY too far in his cabal with Hunterton, which means that you have decisions from 2014-2018 that are simply draconian outliers. However for those attorneys who had discipline cases come up during that period, well they were simply screwed.
If this is what results in a nine month suspension, then Cohen should have been 18-24.
I hear Cohen is driving for Uber.
To be fair, Cohen stole A LOT more money over a longer period of time and there were many more transactions.
To be even more fair, Cohen got caught stealing more money with more transactions. This very likely wasn't Cushing's first rodeo, only the first one in which the Bar got involved.
Cohen was Bremer Whyte, Brown, right? How did the office manager or other partners not catch this? I would imagine he would not have hos own IOLTA.
Cushing and Cohen are both products of shithole L.A. law schools, one of which has been shuttered…
Friday 9:50 here.
My disappointment is immeasurable and my day is ruined.
I'm gonna give my mierdas touch today to JOE BIDEN WHO WILL DEFINITELY WIN
I just read the Cushing order. I do not know this person and I wish only the best. What has me literally with high blood pressure and a shi**y attitude probably the rest of the day is the incongruity in discipline. Here we have basically alleged theft, etc. and only 9 months suspension but in other far, far, far less serious – did I say far enough times, I can hardly type, the Bar seeks more punishment. We could blog that the Bar sucks in Nevada every minute of the day and never say it enough. I'm licensed in two states and Nevada falls so far below the other state that … I can't type anymore … just insane …
Who you know and who you blow is all that matters, counselor. Go forth and kiss some tuckus as a preventative measure.

I like Kym and cannot figure out what happened to him. But yes, when I think about some of the discipline decisions over the past few years compared to this one, I am flabbergasted.
To all you haters – Bremer Whyte looked the other way because Cohen brought in millions in annual fees and was the ONLY lawyer that brought non-cd cases to trial for 12 years. Dennis Prince got a slap on the wrist for $150k – a public reprimand. Why don't all you losers stop whining like little bitches. Bet you couldn't find your way to the court house with Waze. Ya Cohen is hurting – sending both his kids to college, lives in an awesome house, and just bought a vacation home in Maui – I stayed there with my family as his guest.
Probably all on stolen money, but congratulations to Nelson Cohen.
Nelson? Is that you up there bragging about yourself per usual? Writing about the stolen coat tails you’ve ridden on for so long LOL. The only person that doesn’t hate him would be Cohen himself lol
Anyone have any recommendations of who you want to co-counsel with for litigation when you have a significant personal injury case?
Ladah or the wizards in the gilded towers of Eglet.
Not them.
Maybe Dennis Prince? I'm not sure how far along he's come in establishing his new firm.
Dennis.
