Just want to say that after 8 months on the bench, the newbies judges still seem to have some settling in to do. Our office has have some bizarre rulings from them, including some from the judges that we expected to do okay, like Bare and Scann. Any similar experiences out there? Is there funny water at the RJC?
What can we do to get more comments/traffic here? I would suggest that you create a FB page and Twitter and integrate it with Twitterfeed. You may also want to ask your still relatively small contingent of readers to spread the word (IRL and on FB).
Just sayin. I miss the raucous, high volume comments on the Friday open thread.
I second 9am's comment. This blog needs a facebook page. Once you have a facebook page, the word will get out on the site.
Yeah, why isn't Elle at least posting in the comments??
I think the threats from the crazies rattled Elle to the core.
Who was Elle? Does anyone know?
Wild Wild Law was great. Everything since has pretty much sucked.
The crazy Amber Candelaria husband dude should have started a hilarious discussion. Instead it just died. Where the hell is everyone??
Joseph W. Law – if you're out there, please bring back WWL.
Allf told a colleague of mine in open court that she just not believe in electronic service and feels it is untrustworthy. She does not feel it is "good service." Further, she does not "believe in" joinders, and will not consider them. Further, she does not believe in substantive joinders. In essence, everyone has to file their motion, period.
I'm glad the local law blog has been revived (was just told about it)! I also agree that more advertisement is needed, but let's hope it doesn't bring out the Troy Fox comments. That got old!
I was shocked that Elle's blog suddenly disappeared, although heard there was cause for concern.
what is the story with Amber Candelaria husband dude?
@ 11:25am – cause for concern for her personally? Does no one actually know who she is?
11:00– and your problem with this position is what?
(a) WIZNET has proven to be an unreliable system in getting pleadings timely filed. This system has been in place for years, starting with idea that having CD cases fund the expansion of e-filing was a good idea.
(b) I have never had Judge Allf state that she does not believe in Joinders. What she has said is that a Joinder is nothing more than seconding a request for relief as articulated by the moving party and does not create a "tag-along" or "me too" motion. Under the rules of civil procedure, she is correct in my view, albeit such a view can create inefficiencies.
As much as I would love to know myself, stop trying to out Elle. That's one reason people don't want to take on hosting this kind of blog and I'm very glad anyone is doing it. With Elle, I think it was the crazies and that Elle was getting subpoenas to reveal ip addresses of people who were posting crazy comments and she did not want to have to deal with that crap (I don't know that she was- just my speculation.)
ELLE WAS TROY FOX
"concern" and "her" and yes, I caught them myself as soon as the post went up. Should type slower.
(the post at 12:29 makes no sense because the the rest of this one posted, and then un-posted in the course of about 3 minutes. I apologize in advance if it re-appears after the re-post.)
@11:46: It is not important if it was a personal cause for concern, or simply a threat to "out" her. I do not know who Elle is, and I suspect anyone with actual knowledge of her identity is her friend and therefore unwilling to give her up. The nature of blogging anywhere, and in the legal community specifically, is such that anonymity is cherished. Most of the good gossip and vital information passed around in the blogosphere related to the Las Vegas legal world would stop if we all had to attach our name to it.
I blog in a few other locations. My friends know it is me, and chuckle to themselves when I go off the rails. They do not tell anyone "not in the know" who the crazy person blogging is…at my request. I blog anonymously so that I can be brutally honest. I suspect Elle did too. She subsequently decided to close up shop and fade away when it became apparent someone in the reading community was out to reveal her true identity. Who Elle is/was is not a burning question to my mind. Who the BK Hottie(s) is/are? Now that is an altogether different subject.
11:26 here. I do not know who Elle is either. I just heard that there were crazies and that someone was going to great lengths to out her.
I'm with 12:34…I would like to know who the BK hottie is, although I've probably never met her since I don't practice BK.
@ 12:44
I remain convinced that the oft spoken of BK hottie, much like the unicorn or mermaid, is a mythical creature of which we can only fantasize.
I agree with the facebook page.
I bet Elle will be at Craig Kenny's party in October. Attend and guess who she is among the 1000or so attendees. I heard she can dunk. That should narrow it down.
P.S. Please give her a break and stop trying to identify her.
How much fun is Craig Kenny's party? I'm a recently admitted attorney, but I've already heard a lot about it.
I like the CPK party. How can you argue with free booze?
I really miss the blogs because they help keep us abreast of what is going on at the court. For example, did you know that Department 5 is still vacant and is being handled by senior judges. The question is which judges are on the bench there? Are they rotating? I know it has been Gates, but have heard rumor that it will be someone else next week.
Also, what about Esquire moving to the Wells Fargo building? True or false? What is going on with Judge Earl's health? Are they actually starting to build that Moxie Java across from the RJC? Since when do judges post on the blogs (looking at you 12:15)?
Could someone run a blog un-anonymously (is that nonymously)and have people actually participate? Despite the trolls, the blogs serve a vital purpose for the legal community.

Is this a blog where I can vent/warn others regarding a couple of complete unethical dirtbags I've had to litigate against of late? Litigation is miserable enough without elevating it to the utter nonsense I've endured, and I'd hate for anyone else to fall into the trap of thinking these two are professionals.
6:48 – would one of them be female, first name starts with S?
Anyone apply to the open DA positions? Have they started interviewing yet?
August 26, 2011 4:36 PM – I have to agree with your argument that anonymity is needed to run a successful legal blog. With the exception of myself, I think most people can't take the risk of speaking for attribution. And even I censor myself occasionally.
BK hottie changed firms recently. She's not down there as much anymore.
I hope that whoever operates this blog does not get discouraged. Based on the comments to this thread, it appears there are several readers of this blog. I agree that some of the interesting posts on here received virtually no discussion. e.g. Amber Candelaria's vampire killing hubby.
The readers need to realize that a blog such as this is a two way street. If there are few or no comments posted,I imagine it becomes dull and boring for the blogger behind everything.
By a like token, the blogger needs to pick up on topics raised in the comments and start a new topical thread. For example, @4:36 raises some interesting topics for discussion.
We should be getting daily updates and comments on Eglet's trial against Big Pharma.
Amber's ex-husband
Has anyone ever litigated against M. Nelson Segel? I have case with him now and I had heard from a couple of people that he is a nightmare. Just want to know what I'm in for. Thanks.
4:36 above asks: "did you know that Department 5 is still vacant and is being handled by senior judges. The question is which judges are on the bench there?"
——————–
That seat on the bench is being held for Amber Candelaria. She's going to be sworn in at the CPK party.
@ 1:13.
My apologies to you Amber, I did not realize you and the vampire killer were no longer together.
Abatangelo works for Glen Lerner now. Seems like all the good PI firms have at least one exjudge as the proper accessory this season.
And I would check in more often if I didn't have see posts about Elle. Still? Really?
Who are the judges that are allegedly employed by Stokes & Stokes?
@2:14 Tony has been working for Glen for 8 months. Thanks for the newsflash. Good PI firm? That might be up for debate as well.
@12:15 pm, 8/26
My problem with this position is her view that she can ignore the local rules.
EDCR 2.20(b) allows joinders to stand on their own, in conjunction with the points made in the original motion, if the original motion becomes moot or is withdrawn. The court "shall" consider its points and authorities in conjunction with those in the original motion. She has specifically stated she will not allow this.
EDCR 8.05 requires that any e-filed document be served electronically (and the recipient must accept service electronically of all e-filed documents, regardless as to whether a consent has been filed). This was negotiated and argued by the judges when proposing and finalizing ADKT 418. I don't believe she has the authority to ignore it.
My "problem" with this position is when judges ignore the rules and do what they want. One of my biggest complaints about the judges is lack of consistency among their requirements. It makes it very difficult to figure out which judges follow which rules.
@ 8/29, 5:28 – Sorry you missed the sarcasm.
@ 8/30, 10:18 – Great point. You never know what you're going to get from our judges.
Sarcasm or not it is still 8 month old news.
Zap. That'll teach me.
Keep it fresh byaaaatch. Your news is moldy.
