Friday News Roundup!

  • Law
Happy Friday, everyone!

Update: The City of North Las Vegas has an (Acting) City Attorney Again!  Congratulations and good luck to Jeffrey Barr – who has worked in the civil division of the North Las Vegas for the past five or so years – he’s been named as the Acting City Attorney for the City of North Las Vegas, and it seems like he is going to need all the help he can get.
In other breaking news, the State Bar of Nevada looks like it recently had a website makeover.  I like it.  What do you think?
And, for those of you who haven’t been following the story about the Cooley Law School, and its attempts to discover the identity of and sue anonomous blog posters who allegedly defamed the school online (and the law firm who allegedly solicited plaintiffs to sue Cooley first on Craigslist), I highly recommend checking it out:
That’s all I have for you today – have a good weekend and good luck bar takers!

Grade for the new State Bar website is a Fail. Lots of pretty javascript, flash and other fluff to make sure that the website runs slower, along with an all too common and highly annoying habit of websites, once the "professionals' have gotten their hands on it, that every page, especially the new lawyer search page, requires you to scroll down about 50,000 inches to get to what you're looking for. I'm glad someone thinks it pretty; please put the old and I suppose "ugly" website back and sue the "artist" who made the new one for whatever the bar paid him or her.

I don't get you, Jordan. Someone invited you to comment yesterday on a subject about which you know something. Then today you suddenly appear out of nowhere to criticize the State Bar's website????? You are a quandry wrapped in a riddle wrapped in an enigma.

Hate the new bar website too. All I use it for is to look up attorneys and now that takes much longer. If there are a lot of results for a search, the results are spread across multiple screens. Then once you find the person you want, you have to click an extra button for an extra screen to see the most minimal amount of additional information. I know, this may amount to only a few second, but it sure is annoying when you do it alot, and for no good reason.

The new bar website sucks balls. Yes, it is prettier…in some ways but clearly the prettiness is slowing it down. I HATE having to look someone up because it takes forever.

2:32 PM – My apologies, this has been a very heavy work week for me; not just the recruiting business but my dual political hobbies (County Whip for the Clark County Republican Party & Constable of Laughlin) have also been time consumers the last four days. I didn't even read the Slow News Day post. I will endeavor to rectify my shortcoming tomorrow and post whatever modest piece of brilliance I may have to offer.

Meanwhile, assemble the peasants with pitchforks and torches outside the State Bar Webmasters lair…

Glad to know that it's the web site and not my computers and/or internet connection. Wonder how much of our bar dues were spent on the inferior web site.

To the people at bar check in who insist on talking up how much you've studied,

I HOPE YOU FAIL.

That is all.

12:05 – they will also natter nonstop in the bathroom, in the morning before exams start and at the end of the day about all of the issues they spotted in each question, likely causing you to be paralyzed with fear that you did not spot or address those particular issues. Fear not and ignore them. That happened to me lots. I passed and some of those know it alls who blab like that didn't.
