Exceedingly Offended

  • As was to be expected, Lisa Willardson didn’t get the same softball questions on cross-examination that she got on direct. (Willardson continues to post in the comments at the RJ and on Facebook.) Special Counsel for the Nevada Commission on Judicial Discipline Kathleen Paustian revealed that Willardsen and Judge Steven Jones exchanged some 2,500 text messages from October 17, 2011, to December 15, 2011. Jones also took the stand yesterday and according to reports, was “exceedingly offended” that someone took a picture of his crotch. He faces cross-examination today followed by closing arguments. Lisa got "busted" with the FB photo that she has had on her page (which she has now privatized) for two years, which EVERYONE has seen, and is seriously backpedaling on this whole thing. Due to her sour grapes, now she is claiming that the page/photo was manufactured, and she is going to file a bar complaint against Ms. Paustian. Lisa still does not "get it"…. she is sooooooo done. She just does not know when to shut up. When is the State Bar going to shut her down? She keeps postings things which will come back to haunt her. She needs to crawl back under the rock she came from. She is the type who gives all attorneys a bad rep.

I can still see her facebook posting when I'm logged in. The funny thing is someone was posting on her wall and she commented about that person, "Can't fix crazy or stupid…" Ain't that the truth.

Look at the FB profile picture she just put up with her Farrah Fawcet (sp) hairdo. I sincerely doubt that Kathleen Paustian would be stupid enough to fraudulently manufacture evidence.

I agree. Kathleen probably wouldn't do that. The question is this tho, how could the judge be in a relationship with her on the 17th when she didn't give him her number until the 20th?

If that fact came out in the hearing, you are way more familiar with the details than I am. On what date did he have his hand on her knee at the party?

If she was familiar enough with the Judge and his staff to send an email calling the judge "freaking hot," then I would say that relationship started even before October 2011. An attorney must be extremely familiar with a judge's staff to feel comfortable about doing something like this.

Admittedly, I haven't been at the hearing, but I have a hard time believing Willardson understands what is going on or what kind of consequences her actions have. I mean it is entertaining and all, but I can't believe she is still making these kind of public comments during these proceedings. There is no way any bar complaint will stick against Ms. Paustian.

Every few years our local legal community produces someone so outrageous and so out of touch with reality that it makes news. Lisa Willardson is just the latest local legal idiot in a line that has in the past few years included such gems as Nancy Quon, Noel Gage, Elizabeth Halverson, and Amber Candelaria. You gotta admit, this Willardson is really standin' by her man.

Clearly you dont know Zobrist (who is still listed as active and has yet to be suspended according to the State Bar's page). He is neither outrageous nor out of touch.

You can't reasonably put him in the same category as Halverson or Candelaria. He is a solid practitioner as is evidenced by the supportive comments on this blog. I don't know him but know a couple people close to him and in my opinion He got screwed. Call it a nervous voyeurism, but I've read every piece of paper filed in his case, including his sentencing memo/objection to PSR. There were filed some 60-70 letters of support including from a number of several VERY respected members of the bar, former clients and even some alleged victims in his case.

He never put his name or opinion out there and refused to go away like Willardson, Candelaria and Halverson and now JONES. Get informed, you idiot or refrain from commenting.

12:22 – yeah, and he has a felony conviction Halvorson and Caldelaria don't have. They embarrassed the legal profession by being public nitwits. He embarrassed the legal profession in an entirely different way.

Still Zobrist was very involved in a multi-million dollar fraud matter which 70 support letters do not balance out or erase.

No unfortunately this is one of those cases of the "negotiated fiction" where the facts of the case and the facts as set forth in the plea agreement. Very different. Gerry's case is a shame.

If his hands were clean, why plead guilty? He knew he done wrong and he stepped up to face the music. I'll give him that part as being noble. The truth is that white-collar crime is difficult for people to accept–who was injured and how? It not the same as outright burglary or muder.

@ 3:19– If you have ever looked down the barrel of a gun, you know what makes people blink. We are so cavalier as a profession in saying that people who are facing years defending themselves and hundreds of thousands of dollars in defense costs must be guilty because they capitulated under the pressure. That will tell you why small mistakes can lead to huge, life-destroying guilty pleas.

4:00 is so right, particularly in federal court. I don't know Zobrist but I do know federal court and the risk is so high that innocent people are left with little choice.

Very true. I once had a former U.S. Attorney (not Assistant) as a professor. He had several horror stories of how they would railroad people into plea deals. He admitted that he is haunted by several cases where innocent people were probably sent away for a long time because they accepted a plea deal. His best advice? Don't make political enemies – especially with those in power.

I just read the RJ article stating Jimmerson blamed the judge's troubles on "jealous" people in the DA's office. Um yeah, because every female obviously lusted after creepy Jones and would engage in acts that, if done out of "jealousy," would be on par for a 12 year old. So far the only person who seems to have acted like a middle-schooler is the one foolishly emailing that Jones was "freaking hot." Anytime someone busts out the jealousy accusation, I completely disregard anything that person say.

the whole family claims to be "honest and upstanding" but the whole family is a bunch of lazy money hungry greedy people. the sister in law sits on her lazy butt collecting child support of nearly $5k a month for her kids and spends it on her and her jobless husband instead of her children. other family members sit there and complain about how tough it is,whatever get a real job making money instead of stealing it from other people and it wouldnt be so tough. Honest? con artist is more like it

So has anyone heard of/dealt with this Mary Perry (besides you, Mary – please pipe down)? Short of Charles Manson, I'd pretty much vote for anyone besides Willardson, but Perry's pretending to be someone else is getting a little weird.

I hate to burst your bubble, but I do have a bar license. My bar number is 7863. I have practiced for 13 years, with 12 of these years and more than 1,000 cases of this in family law matters. If you want to know who I am, go to the court house and ask about my reputation. I would pit my reputation against Lisa Willardson's any day. Oh, that's right, I am. We have an election coming up. You can also go to Odyssey, the court site and put my name in. It will give you list of all of the active cases.

9:27 hits an important election issue a glancing blow. With a few notable exceptions, most family court practitioners rarely venture into non-family law areas and so get little peer recognition outside the often convoluted world that is family law. This is not necessarily a bad thing. I imagine very few insurance defense attorneys (to pick on a specialty) are well known outside of the civil lit world and maybe even not outside their specific area of focus i.e PI, CD, surety etc. Most non family law attorneys I know would rather lie down in traffic than appear in family court so never get to know the handful of "regulars." Would many of us even know Ms. Willardson existed were it not for this media circus case?

I've never heard of Mary either, but I'll probably vote for her just because of the negative information presented against Willardson (and the uncertainty if she will face perjury issues from her testimony). Maybe some other people should jump into this race.

Mary outed herself as the person posting here about her qualifications while pretending to be not her, which seems to be the point of the original post.

Mary, No need to be defensive. No one has doubted your qualifications here. Rather, people were inquiring of a group of people who might have personal experience dealing with you because they are interested to learn about who is running against Willardson. Believe me, we WANT you to be a good, qualified candidate. Telling people who are interested in learning about you to "go to the courthouse" is not exactly effective campaigning.

Mary,

It's good to see you commenting here. Just as a tip from somebody who will probably vote for you just because Willardson is such a mess, don't stoop to her level and engage with internet trolls. It just makes you look petty. Your comment above at 9:01 am is a good example. Just provide information about why your qualifications are better than Willardson's (shouldn't be hard to do), and move on. Nobody wants another petty, egotistical judge on the bench, so don't give us a reason to vote against you.
