District Court Dept. 24 – Judicial Primary Primer

  • Law

There are four candidates vying for the seat being vacated by Judges James Bixler (who apparently has higher aspirations). The candidates are:  Anthony Ashby; Jim Crockett; Joe Hardy, Jr.; and Tony Liker.

Give us your thoughts on why you think one of these guys will make a better judge than the others.

Who should the people vote for in District Court Department 24?

I was pleasantly surrpised to see Joe Hardy lead the pack after I put my vote in for him. While I usually defer to age, in this case, Joe has the demeanor, smarts and ethics (both work and legal) to be real (and rare) asset to the bench. Attorneys need to push for Joe lest the public vote for NFL Smart just based on his (dwindling) name recognition.

I've dealt with Joe Hardy a few times, and I agree, he's smart and great to deal with. He has my vote.

Hardy is a real pleasure to work with, unlike some civil defense attorneys I've worked against. Smart, seems like a hard worker. He should get elected in my view.

I proceed with caution lest we turn this into a Joe Hardy love fest, but I've got to agree with the others. I've had Joe as opposing counsel on a number of cases and he's not only smart but civil. He would be a step in the right direction for district court.

"Higher aspirations." I see what you did there.

I agree that Joe Hardy is going to make a great judge. In this election, however, I'm voting for Jim Crockett. He has significantly more experience than Joe and he has done some criminal work. I'm pretty sure if Joe loses, I'll get another chance to vote for him somewhere down the line. I don't think the same is true of Crockett. It's a shame these guys are running for the same department.

I'm voting for Crockett. Joe just turned me off by posting four posts in a row about himself.

I just wish Crocket was running against someone named "Tubbs." How bad@$$ would that be?

I've heard so many amazing things about Anthony Ashby that I cannot wait to vote for him.

You might want to share those wonderful bits of information, Mr. Ashby.

This is 1:59:
I am not a scorned ex wife or girlfriend, nor would I ever be in a personal relationship with Mr. Ashby. I have spent some time in the court house and been on the opposite side of Ms. Ashby in prior cases. His exceedingly unprofessional conduct towards me caused a bailiff to step in and "break up" the incident…yelling, calling me names…all in the courthouse lobby!
Following that incident, it seemed like I heard story after story about his awful treatment of women, both professionally and personally. Much of which came from courthouse staff.
Family court does not seem like the right place for Mr. Ashby and his obvious lack of respect for women, who would make up a significant number of litigants before any family court judge.

Thanks 1:59, I'm crossing Ashby off my list. For me, it is between Hardy and Tubbs (I mean Crockett … sorry).

So easy for those hiding under the cloak of secrecy to slash and burn, huh 1:59? At least educate yourself on the topic about which you profess to know so much. And maybe a little honesty? Mr. Ashby has more jury trials in his 20 years than Mr. Crockett in his 40 years. I know him professionally and he doesn't practice family law and he is not running for family court, moron.

1:59 again…educate myself about interactions I had with Mr. Ashby myself? Not necessary. I did state that I heard story after story…never claimed any facts except those to which I was a party, which actually were disturbing. To this day, I still get asked about that incident, which occurred over seven years ago now.
I was mistaken to suggest that Mr. Ashby was running for family court judge, my mistake. However, the logic remains.
Also easy to call others names when doing so anonymously.

Ashby has abused what little power he has had many times in the past. His actions are unlogical and vindictive at times. He has a serious case of Napoleon Complex

At least none of these candidates is Ken Pollock.
