I’m really looking forward to Major League Baseball in Las Vegas and I expect to get season tickets as soon as they go on sale. I’m also fine with some public money going to the ballpark. Yeah, I’d rather that money go to education or homeless vets or something like that. But we aren’t going to ever spend money on those things, so if it’s baseball or nothing, I’ll take baseball.

That said, we’ve committed what we are going to commit, and if the price tag is going up that is the OWNER’s problem, not a public problem. If John Fisher can’t afford to pay for his share of the new ball park, maybe he needs to rethink whether he is rich enough to own a MLB team.

Nothing but another scam to get the taxpayers to buy stuff for billionaires. Same as it ever was. You can’t watch baseball game on TV anymore without paying through the nose. What makes anyone think that tickets for this stadium will be remotely affordable?

MLB.tv is 129.99 a year? Maybe a little less. That’s reasonable especially if your team is an out of market team.

I have to agree with 9:55 AM. Baseball is now so accessible on TV, it will probably create major problems for the A’s. Starting this year, there are no blackouts in MLB.tv. Previously, if you wanted to watch the Dodgers, Angels, Dbags, Rockies, SF Littles or San Diego Little Brothers you had to pay $130/month for DirecTV. Now, you can get the Dodgers for $200 a year and all the other teams for a lot less (Shohei Tax).

ON TOP OF THAT MLB.tv has a “free game of the day” for anyone without a subscription. And of course, there are weekly games on Fox, ESPN and Apple TV. Baseball has never been more accessible on TV than it is right now.

Here’s John Fisher’s problem. Unlike pre-VGK Vegas, 2025 Vegas baseball fans already have a team. If you are a fan of any of the California teams, or even the Dbags, why would you start to follow an underfunded loser with an owner like John Fisher?

John Fisher is banking HARD on drawing tourists. If this plan works, it’s actually pretty genius. Maintain a rock bottom payroll, but still sell tickets like you are fielding a winner by drawing tourists. It’s a terrible baseball plan but might be an amazing business plan. Triple A payroll with a Major League revenue stream. Genius!

Honest question. You’re going to buy 81 games of John Fisher’s A’s? How many of those do you plan on going to?

8:57 here. Over half for sure, but probably not more than 60 or so. I’ve had Golden Knights and Aces season tix before as well, and I tend to give many away. They make great gifts and giveaways for staff. I think there will be a decent enough resale market that I won’t have to eat many A’s tickets. But usually when I sell I put them up for fair value, I’m not looking for a profit on my tix.

To be clear, I’m in on baseball, NOT John Fisher. But as a sports fan, I have zero expectation for sports team ownership to be decent people. FJF for sure, but F most greedy sports owners.

I love all sports, but I don’t follow with religiosity any of them any more.

But, Baseball has the best highlights of ANY sport. Period.

The earlier the better for Court – speaking as a criminal practitioner I don’t mind starting at 7:30 if calendar’s over by 9.

I used to be purely civil and have now joined criminal. I love criminal’s laissez-faire way of attorneys popping up in line of showing up in the courtroom. Criminal practitioners are understanding of each other and know who the ones are just trying to cut the line. The stacked approach of times starting at 8 am and going to 10am is nice. Sitting and waiting for civil hearings is very annoying now compared to criminal hearings.

There are 32 departments. 8 start at 830. 8 start at 9. 8 start at 930. 8 start at 10. Staggers it enough to allow you to bounce department to department. As far as the “B” department that starts that 8:30, if she did not allow 70 minute arguments which are 30 minutes of her stating her overly strict protocols, things would move faster. Conversely the “B” department that sets (likely) uncontested at 9 and contested at 905 is a model of efficiency.

Also Bluejeans used to allow you to be logged into multiple departments at the same time. ZOOM does not (you can sort of work around it with multiple devices but ZOOM is not friendly that way). Return to that feature.

Only one Business Court Department starts at 830. And that is how it shall B.

Only one Business Court Department sets hearings at 9 and 9:05. If you look at their calendars you will C that.

Absolute truth here. While I no longer practice criminal defense, the collegiality and mutual “rush rush go go go” every morning made knocking out ten to fifteen court appearances in a single morning a breeze. Civil practitioners could only dream of such efficiency. The rare civil appearance I had was absolutely awful. The wait. The lack of urgency by some members of the judiciary. If you timed it perfectly and knew the flow of the departments, your morning could be done by 9AM if you start at 7:30AM. Back to the office by 10AM to start consults and prepare for tomorrow.

Civil practitioner. I despise the 1-3 departments (one B court dept in particular) who start at 8:30 sharp. Too early.

That said, I’m also not a big fan of the one particular civil department who sets hearings at 9:00, but judge rarely shows up until 10:00 or so.

9:00 is the start time. End of discussion.

Do you mean it’s wrong to advertise an 8:30 start time and then come waltzing in at 8:50 with a Sparkletts water jug disguised as a drink cup?

Israel also did/does it. There were times you were in his courtroom and he was either at home or one time was sitting in his Chambers refusing to come out.

Always live it when I give an extension to answer written discovery and then get back a bunch of cut and paste objections/“see my 16.1 disclosures” type of responses, with no documents or substantive responses included. It took you an extra month to right-click, highlight, and paste?

Just send them a deficiency letter and highlight all their BS responses and compel them to answer. NRCP and case law is on your side. Force them to answer to the discovery commissioner.
