32 District Court judge seats up for re-election. Only 12 contested elections. 37.5% challenge rate. For all the comments in the blog during and prior to the filing period, sounds like this blog is 62.5% full of blowhards. Mathematically speaking, anyway.

I believe it was stated best by someone in the Judicial Election thread #2 that the cons are beginning to far outweigh the pros of stepping down from a respectable private practice. In frankness, it seems to me the Judge position (at least for a semi respected private civil practitioner) is almost being used more often as a stepping stone to get into the more lucrative world of private mediation/arbitration.

Add to “more lucrative” far better quality of life. You ask any of the people at ARM about the stress level now vs. dealing with idiots at RJC.

There is a conspicuous absence of high-level private-practice attorneys seeking judicial office. The days when qualified lawyers like Jim Crocket, Betsy Gonzalez, Terry Coffing, Phil Aurbach, and Trevor Atkin would step down from successful careers to become judges may be over. The bench has become a place for lazy government hacks and those who couldn’t make it as private-practice lawyers.

Well, at least Amber Candelaria is back. That should be entertaining.

Every now and then, the topic of her attempt back in 2010 comes up at the office, and it’s still humorous to this day.

How much has this blog influenced attorneys running (or not running, to be more precise)? I wonder.
