Looking for help and advice. We've been using MyCase for over five years, and have had nothing but problems recently. And their "customer support" is unresponsive and unhelpful. What case management software do you use, and what do you like about it? I promise this is not a solicitation, just desperation.

My firm recently "upgraded" from some 1970's software to some 1990's software, so I can't provide much input. Sorry.

Defund MyCase. Have you found their headquarters and decided looting in that city is the best way to convince others of the worthiness of your cause? #BidenAOC2020 #SocialismForever #LetsBeLikeVenezuela

You guys can't even talk about the most boring, mundane issues without bring up some hackneyed political point. Seriously, spending so much mental energy on something that barely affects your life is not healthy. Chill.

Like Black and LoBello, the money is running out. I am amazed that they are even still open like many other law firms.

How do you know that the money is running out at Black and LoBello. Are the partners all opening their own firms? Why are they splitting up?

Ive been amazed for years that A-T is still in business. Is that ridiculous building on Charleston still for sale? You know; the one with the lobby that looked like the space in a 1980's funeral home where you'd go to view the deceased.

AT, B&L, MAC, H&S… I've heard rumors of demise for each. Will be interesting to see which falls first.

H&S is fine. B&L is struggling. MAC is financially strong but with Al semi-retired and Phil and Terry running for office, not even the name will stay there. Who knows about A/T. Yes that monstrosity of a building was bought by Eddie Haddad.

MAC is not financially strong. I used to work there. If they were, Coffing would not be a lowly BOG or judge.

So Coffing being on the BoG is a sign that MAC is not financially strong? Whew good to know that Kemp Jones Coulthard was financially floundering when Scotti was on the BoG

No, on being a BOG. I do not vote for people who are BOGs. Coffing is a BOG. If his practice was so lucrative, he would not be either a judge or BOG.

1:15–agreed that it is nonsense to argue, as 12:46 does, that one must have a failing practice in order to run for judge and/or BOG.

However, if his more narrow point is that he would neither vote to re-elect a BOG member, and would not vote for a BOG member to be elected judge, there are many who feel the same way–simplistic and myopic it may be.

Who is even left at Marquis Aurbach? Are they even still open? Two of the named partners, Aurbach and Coffing are both running for office at the same time at ages 60 and 70. Yeah, but they are running for judge, because their firm is so flush with cash? 12:46 sounds spot on.

The article about Gomez left more questions than answers. Anyway, open-carry is a sign of civilization. Once we go full Cali and ban open carry, it's over.

Agree about the need to defend open carry. Choosing a volatile protest that is unrelated to the open carry issue, and strutting around like Rambo, is something that I don't understand.

I do not understand open carry at all. All you are doing is setting yourself up for trouble: "Hey, thugs, hit me in the back of the head with a baseball bat and help yourself to my $800 pistol."

3:16PM-Open carry thread. Open carry was discussed in the Nevada Lawyer Issue on Guns and the Second Amendment and then a follow up. Why does Nevada have open carry as permissible. Because it is not prohibited. Why is it a felony to carry a firearms concealed. Howe ridiculous is that. Nevada requires a cumbersome process to get permit. Other states have done away with permit requirements like Arizona. Why should it be a felony to carry a handgun for protection concealed?? Folks they are coming for our guns. Thank god for the Second Amendment.

Ever since the Gomez story broke, I was waiting for the questions. Remember it started with a rumor that Gomez killed a US Marshal. Then the story was that he shot at officers outside the courthouse. Then it was that Gomez was shooting into the Courthouse. Then it was "Well we engaged him with low lethal and then he started firing back at us". Then it was "Well we engaged him with low lethal and then he aimed him gun at us and we had no choice but to start firing." None of this is borne out by video.

LVMPD shot him with 5 low-lethal rounds and then shot him lethally 19 times from various angles and there is no a single piece of video that ever shows him lifting his weapon (let alone getting even a single shot off) nor does it even make sense how a fleeing guy would have been aiming a long-gun while running. We can debate the prudence of open carrying to a protest; it was not a smart idea. But lets be honest enough to admit that LVMPD could not get their story straight on killing this guy if their life depended on it– when unfortunately our lives depend on it.

It seems like a really weird comment that open carry is a sign of civilization. What civilization? Regardless, showing up at a protest against the police (or police violence) with a bunch of guns seems like a really dumb idea. Seems like he was mentally unstable. Probably would've been helpful if some of metro's ginormous budget was spent on community mental health care.

Concerning the judicial elections, someone posted yesterday that repeat judicial candidates can win merely by running a lot, even if they spend far less than their opponents.

The theory, of course, is that they are building greater name recognition with each race.

So, could Bruce Gale, Robert Kurth or Craig Friedberg realistically get elected by merely running another couple times, even if they don't spend much?

Someone mentioned that there is a long term Family Court judge who originally got on the bench by using this perennial candidate approach. Is this true?

2:36, but who is the one who used this approach? Was it more than one?
I remember Gary Redmon and Del Vecchio, but who is the one currently serving (as referenced by 1:55) who used this approach.?

A dynamic that now seems more prevalent than perennial candidate filings is grudge-motivated filings, involving re-election attempts by an incumbent.

An attorney is very bitter and resentful toward an incumbent, so they sign up to run against such judge. Thus even if the bitter challenger spends very little money or effort, they force the judge to raise and spend a lot of money, and to endure much stress during the election year.

I am told that there are currently at least two of these grudge-motivated filings in the Family Court, but I don't know the details. Does anyone know?

DelVecchio ran repeatedly (20x?) and finally was elected. Matt Harter ran literally every cycle (District, Family, Justice, Muni) before getting elected. Bill Henderson and that silly corgi in his ads ran every cycle. Name recognition from the ballot doesn't cut it. You have to have your signs up cycle after cycle.

1:31–those corgi ads may have been "silly" but they were kind of off beat and memorable. It is only in recent years people will include a pet in any campaign material or ads, but the pet is posing with the entire family. But, back when he featured the corgi, not only did people view it as not too dignified to include animals in their ads, but it was also interesting because the shots were just of him and the corgi–as if that's the entire family, which I presume it was.

Or perhaps I just liked the ads because corgis are a breed I really like. It was also interesting that the whole focus was on the dog, and very little was said about the candidate's qualifications or experience.

Sort of campaigning by "distraction"–avoiding any issue or any discussion of qualifications, by focusing on something else that may distract the viewer's attention.

1:31 is right that for guys like Henderson, Harter, Redmon and Del Vecchio to get elected, it was necessary for them to have heavy street signage each time, and I think they all did.

BTW, who are the "grudge" filings 3:26 refers to?

Sisolak didn't have anything to do with it. This is a common method of organized protests to try to keep thinks calmer and I applaud the lawyers for volunteering. Metro just proved the case for reform.

Metro is making themselves look ridiculous. Taking down Legal Observers (people who met with LVMPD in advance and made sure everyone understood what a Legal Observer is and that they are not technically part of the protest). Justification: well they set foot in the street. Assume that is true, we need to throw them on the ground an zip tie people for setting foot in the street? They are making a bad situation look ridiculously horrible.
