Of course it was a cyber attack. The Trump administration has left us incredibly vulnerable on purpose.

Very sad news. It’s alarming how many cases there are of our Bar Members passing in their 40s and 50s.

Gun proliferation. Brought to you by the same party that brought you our President. I’m sure your “thoughts and prayers” will accomplish a lot. No surprise so many repubs are religious. They care so much about the unborn, but care naught about the living, or the dying.

The non-attorney rage baiter is bordering on anti-Semitism and is using a VPN to upvote his own posts. The cyber attack wasn’t only in Nevada, and not all Israelis can magically launch a cyber attack. It’s like saying a single Jew controls all banking. Gross.

Any criticism of the genocidal and corrupt Israeli regime is anti-Semitism? Bullshit.
And the poster was not talking about “any Israeli,” the poster was referring to “Israel’s top cyber security official,” dipshit.

12:38 here. I’m a Jew who has protested the occupation in Gaza. I despise Benjamin Netenyahu. I believe in a two state solution at the very least and full Israeli citizenship at the very best. That doesn’t excuse the antisemitism in 11:24’s post. Don’t pretend you’re ann attorney and come here to rage bait for sport.

hi, 11:24 (OP) here. I would like to point out every single thing i said in my post was straight facts. Did israel’s top security official get arrested in a child sex sting operation? YES. Did that same official get released and went back to Israel? YES. Did that happen about a week ago? YES. Did the State of Nevada get hacked? YES.

this is all facts. there is no mention of the jewish religion, jews in general, or targeting any group of people. my comments were not reflective of any religion. it was simply repeating actual facts, about specific GOVERNMENT PERSONS. i am not sure how talking about a specific govt official (a child pedo to boot) somehow turns into an antisemetic comment.

lastly, i am a semite myself. so joke’s on you, dimwit.

Am I right that there’s nothing to stop Guymon from getting hired as a high-paid “paralegal” who is basically ghost drafting briefs and doing behind the scenes work? Permanent disbarment should include a prohibition from ever working in the legal profession in any capacity (similar to what they do with the financial services fraudsters).

As long as he stays in the lanes and whoever hires him wants to take on inherent risk of UPL issues, basically yes, that’s how it can work.

I’d hire him as a paralegal. He’d have to jump through hoops and submit to random drug tests. But he has a good legal mind and still should be able to make a living.

A disbarred attorney likely has no other marketable skill, so your position is fine in theory but functionally bars employment. If the disbarred attorney is just drafting documents, and not counseling clients, or advocating to the court or opposing counsel, what’s the problem?

Our criminal justice system should not and generally does not prohibit offenders from the highest level of gainful employment possible. Works for efficiency in the economy, Works to allow them to generate restitution. Works to keep them out of trouble and risk of re-offending. Permanent bans from the financial industry are usually only prohibitions from regulated activities, which is what the disbarment would serve in this case.

There is definitely precedent. I think one was a former judge but I can think of at least three instances of formerly barred counsel taking up such a position as case manager or some innocuous title.

Guymon is an incredibly talented criminal lawyer and was a helluva trial lawyer in his day. Rest assured he has not written a brief in several decades and won’t be doing so anytime soon. Nor should anyone hire him for such things.

The admin should consider a two-tier approach. They should host the blog on a server in the EU or Tongo. Then they can verify actual attorneys, but still allow them to remain anonymous on the blog. That is a user can get a token that allows them to post on the blog, but the token is anonymous, having gone through a throw away verification process outside of the US.

That’s just nonsensical. But “leftist-fascist” is very typical Russian troll language. If you’re really an attorney in Nevada, you’d not oppose verification that ultimately allows you to remain anonymous. You’re free to speak elsewhere on the internet. This blog isn’t the government.

I’d like to limit posting on this blog to only Nevada barred attorneys. Unfortunately, many Nevada barred attorneys are idiots who will happily do the work of Russian trolls, so I doubt much will change.

I have a case right now where opposing counsel and I are able to speak candidly with each other about the facts and law. I wish this happened more. It helps move the case along, and increases the chances of a favorable resolution before everyone burns up endless fees. If every case were like this, this job would be so much more enjoyable. These kind of conversations are also more intellectually interesting. To everyone who does this, and is capable of it, I tip my hat. May we find ways to talk like this more often.

I had cases like this for many years. Every single time I got a client whose opposing party was represented by Chris Tilman, I knew we were going to get it resolved without a huge amount of work and that the result would be fair for both parties.

Damn I miss those days and I hope that Tilman is doing well in Boulder City.

I should call him . . . .
