Unredacted

Thanks to the crack document review team at the RJ, we now know have an idea of who started the HOA scandal investigation into Nancy Quon and Leon Benzer….

The RJ reported Friday evening that 51 pages on an 88 page FBI affidavit were deposited by Chris Rasmussesn’s office in support of a motion to dismiss conspiracy and fraud charges against his client (the sister of Leon Benzer), Edith Gillespie. Apparently, somebody (it is unclear who is the responsible party) redacted the name of the person who tipped off the FBI in all but one location in the affidavit. The unredacted name:  Scott Canepa.

According to the RJ, Canepa, one of Nancy Quon’s competitors, brought information to the FBI in November 2007 on an investigation his firm conducted. The article doesn’t say what spurred the investigation, but it does say that Canepa told the FBI that one of the condo associations chose Quon’s firm over his to file a construction defect action.

Vega won't run for re-election. Now there's a decision made about 15 years too late.

Let's hope Miley, Israel, and Walsh make similar decisions.

And Canepa's motivation was…. doing the right thing or padding his wallet? Doesn't matter.

4:47 – I'd go with doing the right thing. Canepa, for all his arrogance and bombast, is a good lawyer and is reasonably ethical.
