First and Best post today!
F-1 over priced, low return for city.
Who didn’t see this coming? (except for the County Commissioners and the Convention Authority).
It will get better in subsequent years.
The county commissioners all deserve to lose their jobs. Not only because of F1, but that’s up there on the list of reasons.
Tone deaf comment of the week: ““It makes a bunch of sense,” [LVCVA Chair Steve] Hill said. “It’s one of the things we’ve learned. If you go out there now, traffic is better than it was before we built all this and that bridge is a big part of that and it’s going to make sense to make that permanent.” Yikes.
Anyone who thinks the traffic along the circuit is better now than it was before is not among the people who are stuck in that traffic on a daily basis.
That Nevada Indy note on the Thacker Pass litigation shows why it’s good for media orgs to have lawyers on staff or, if that’s not possible, for them to consult with lawyers before posting. The note says that the plaintiffs “failed to prove” their claims, but the court order was on a motion to dismiss, meaning that no one had to prove anything – it’s just based on the allegations. Nitpicking, I know, but I think there’s an important difference between alleging things that are probably true but aren’t legally actionable (what happened here) and making allegations that turn out to be false (what the Indy implied in its description).
Yeah you are picking nits for sure.
“Failed to prove violations” and failed to substantiate sufficient to defeat a MtD are close enough for the general public.
You are a blast a parties, are you not?
Talking about MTDs is way too boring for parties. I unusually enthrall partygoers with my in-depth description of the McDonnell Douglas burden shifting framework.
Usually* no edit button on here I guess.
F1 is going to be a major flop . . . maybe someone should rethink the As move before it turns into the same situation
I’m slightly more bullish on F1 than the Athletics. I would suggest the expectations need to be adjusted on F1 though. It’s not the billion dollar bonanza that some of the elite European F1 might be. They overestimated fan demand but with adjustments to the economy and audience target can still be a good event that hopefully in the subsequent years won’t be as disruptive.
Long Beach pulled out of F1 years ago because it was a losing venture. The F1 fees were high and ticket sales were insufficient, which required annual contributions of public funds.
Long Beach now has a successful Nascar affiliated race (Grand Prix).
So long as Las Vegas remains on the F1 schedule after the championship is decided, we are effectively going to be stuck with the F1 Pro Bowl that no F1 fan is really going to care about. We were sold a bill of goods that the politicians were all too happy to lap up. The problem is that we got spoiled with VGK. They were successful. They built a great venue with a great atmosphere. The politicians all wanted to feel like they could be part of the next great success. Allegiant was a public money brontosaurus but is a marquis venue that already has a Super Bowl and feels like a success, dollars be damned. But that is where it stops. The A’s offer does not pencil. F1 has not only been an economic and logistical drain but will turn out to be a huge disappointment that will show that the Emperors truly have no clothes.
F1’s traffic “apology” promised 1.7 billion

Re the police chief that was run over and the teen beaten to death, did the alleged perpetrators in each case share any demographic characteristics? Anything one might use to help identify and prevent such situations? I’m thinking maybe a background in drugs, etc.?
You might be on to something there. I don’t recall this level of horrific violence in juveniles before weed was legalized. I think a commission should definitely be organized to study the link. Thank-you for your very astute and on point observation!
I know you’re being sarcastic and I highly doubt it’s weed. But seriously it could tie to more meth, lack parental support ie the usual suspects.
8 of 10 juveniles involved in the Rancho High briefing arrested for open murder.

I’m sure none of them will serve time in the name of equity.
The 13 year old will probably be handled in the juvenile justice system. The 17 year olds are going to follow the same path as the bicycle killers and will be charged as adults. The only complicating factor in this case will be the “fight” aspect of it. However the descriptions make it sound like it was never a fight and was purely a beating and murder.
We’ve lost another member of our community to suicide. The State Bar has $6M in the bank. We get three free therapy visits through the Bar, but we have to ask for it and disclose we need help. Meanwhile OBC has needlessly increased the stress and pressure on small and solo attorneys through relentless persecutions. This is a public health emergency effecting our community, our colleagues, and our friends. But at least the State Bar has their $6M for their fancy boondoggle to DC.
Awful. Who is it?
And New York CIty and Santa Fe.
Prayers to whomever was the member of our community who believed that there was and is no hope. If you are in this boat (and I have been in this boat), you are not alone. I have an anonymous (to most) email address that you can reach out and stay anonymous, and we can try to talk through the issues. I have already cleared with Bar Counsel in this and another state what the Rules of Professional Conduct state regarding thoughts of self-harm and duty to report. Seriously I have been at the lowest of the lows in this profession and would be happy to listen or help. Your choice. I don’t care who you are, even if you are one of those opposing counsel who I have until now believed to be insufferable.
Can you post it? And thank you for your comment and information. This issue is genuinely concerning to me and I’m really appalled that the Bar hasn’t done more. Too many of us are in crisis.
