How much longer are we taxpayers (I'm in the LV city limits) going to keep paying outside law firms to defend these loser cases that are now going to cost nine figures? I guess that's a rhetorical question. I am no fan of Victoria Seaman, but even a broken clock is right twice a day, and she has been absolutely correct all along when it comes to this.
I am 180 degrees opposite Bob Beers politically, but as a City Councilman he was excellent. Always supported him and was sorry to see him defeated. Big loss to the City and the taxpayers.

Eminent domain is how Steve Sisolak made his money. He bought land by the airport then complained when he couldn't build on it. That one was also defended by private counsel to the detriment of the taxpayers.
I'm all for a free market when there's actual competition, but the idea that we should let a private company earn guaranteed profits through a monopoly is just bizarre.
Utility stocks are classic "widow and orphan" investments due to the relative price stability and solid dividends, often in the 5% range. Buy some shares and let the dividends offset your power bills. I think Nevada Power is owned by Warren Buffett or something but there's plenty of others out there. Voila!
Wasn't there a ballot initiative a few years back to eliminate the NV Energy monopoly? My recall is that the voter's facing a media blitz by NV Energy rejected that soundly. We live in state where it would make profound sense to have solid incentives for rooftop solar – instead we have NV Energy controlling the legislature and opting instead to destroy vast swaths of land with huge solar and wind projects, thereby insuring their profitabilty.
The Thorndal building is definitely in a sketchy neighborhood but it was only a stone’s throw from the old Bunkhouse Saloon. Some solid attorneys past and present at that firm. Hopefully they’re just relocating.
