I can't stand Koppe, but I would have to agree that the parties went too far with the motion practice.

Totally agree. Sounds like the lawyers went a little nuts – but Nancy Koppe is the worst.

What a shite article. No reference to party names, no reference to attorneys, no reference to a case number, no attached documents. In short, no way to reasonably look up whether the article writer is full of shite, whether MK Koppe was being as measured as the article suggests, or whether everything is on the up and up and MJ Koppe just didn't want to sludge her way through the briefs.

Appreciate for a moment that a small town newspaper, the Ukiah Daily Journal, picked up how crazy Magistrate Judge Koppe is. I mean, just how crazy do you have to be for a newspaper in a town of some 16,000 people to take notice?

The newspaper did not notice. A local attorney wrote the story. Do you think perhaps he might have a stake in the case he is referencing?

Well, then I guess it's still somewhat notable that it would get published in a local paper with no obvious connection to Ukiah.

So Koppe is enforcing local rules from the Central District of California (because she likes those better than the actual local rules which are applicable to this case). Koppe is ordering people to be civil to each other while she continues to be a hose beast from the Bench. Got it.

Magistrate Koppe is an absolute nightmare on the bench and a crazy person. Motion, Opposition and Reply Brief equal 1000 pages? In Business Court. such motions are not uncommon at all. When you have stilted Local Rules (which USDC does), this is how you have Motions to have supplemental briefing to motions. Do not blame the attorneys (who were diligent). Blame the system that now is going to require the parties to file additional briefing on this matter. The acts of a tyrant can be appear justified when written with the pen of the propagandist.

Nancy Koppe was made a magistrate after working 10+ years in US Attorney's Office. She is or was apparently involved with Emerge Nevada too.

As a woman, I was hopeful Nancy would be a plus for our Court. She's not. She makes cases more difficult and expensive. No self-awareness. Not practical. She loves to torture, abuse and humiliate lawyers. Black robe disease is bad with her. Heaven help us if she's elevated to full Judge.

I read the article about decriminalizing traffic offenses. The author states that proponents of the push to make traffic offenses civil violations are talking about minor offenses. Well, what are minor offenses? Someone suggested that people being incarcerated for registration and licenses offenses is excessive. What if someone is a habitual offender who believes that they have the right to drive because they have to get to work, school, etc.? I believe that if this push to decriminalize traffic is successful, then the members of the public who drive with a valid license, registration and insurance and do their best to obey traffic laws will be left holding the bag. They will be made the chumps who have to pay the higher insurance premiums and pay the civil penalties to fund the court/administrative system which would handle these cases.

It is easy to keep it civil and not criminal for traffic offenses….no license? Impound car. Overdue monies owed? Community Service. Caught again driving without license or registration? impound car and sell it. It's called civil forfeiture. the Govt does its often with cash money. why not with cars?

The requirement is 16,250 spaces at the site itself. They got that waived, so now there are 14,300 spaces spread out across 4 remote locations for 65,000 seats, a fucking traffic nightmare, and a huge-ass tax bill once it becomes really damn clear that the stadium tax isn't going to cover Clark County's obligations to fund this massive turd.

This new parking plan, while not ideal for tailgating and not very convenient for fans, would actually be better for traffic around the stadium, because not everyone who drove to the game will be driving home from the same area. It will be more spread out.

"Better" seems awfully relative, though. There's still going to be a ton of buses, rideshare vehicles, and taxis leaving that area along with the lucky few who do get to park at the stadium. And it's not like Industrial has a lot of traffic capacity (nor is it like they're adequately funding an upgrade). It's just all-around stupid.

In towns with adequate taxes and sane urban planning, they have subways/elevated rail that connect to stadiums, and they don't have to deal with parking to nearly the same extent. But of course, we don't have the money for light rail here! (Because we gave it all to a billionaire to build himself a stadium)

It was well reported that the stadium project would need nearly $1 billion in transportation infrastructure projects sped up or added to accommodate the stadium. Of course, there isn't $1 billion laying around for infrastructure spending by 2020. Even with other projects' funds diverted, the infrastructure improvements will probably be underfunded.

Thanks Steve Sisolak for bringing us the Raiders. Instead of better schools, roads and transportation, we get an endless spend of tax dollars supporting the Raiders and the ridiculous stadium. It's also great Steve Sisolak that your F@T @SS will be able to sit in a luxury box with parking close the stadium vs parking at the Orleans with the taxpayers.

Honest question since I didn't pay as much attention as I should have during the special session. But who really pushed the Raiders stadium through? The county commission or the state legislature? A quick google search shows that the Legislature pushed the new room tax through. I'm not naive enough to think that the county commission had no influence there, but I'm not sure that they did. Can someone enlighten me with a little background here?

This deal was juiced from all kinds of angles, but the biggest juice in government circles probably came from the Governor's office, the Governor's Office of Economic Development, and to a smaller extent local governments.

Sisolak used ads in the Democratic primary that he was the one who pushed through the Raiders deal while his opponent was against it. So, sounds like he was (at that time at least) taking credit for it. And now he has ads that he is the candidate for education.

Sisolak was the main force on the County Commission pushing it through, although I think 11:43 is correct that overall the county had less juice than Sandoval (or of course Adelson). So Sisolak deserves less blame than some, but more blame than many.

I heard about some professor, I think from Stanford, who was available to speak at the special session about the pitfalls of publicly funded stadiums who was all but hip checked away from any microphones in the legislature.

I am a Republican but this "Big Wave" that is never going to materialize is going to set the Republican Party back decades. Trump is not about conservatism– at least not the conservatism that was about smaller spending, smaller deficits, respect for law and rights, coalition building in the world. You are half right. Trump has brought about the death of correctness, political and in pretty much all other forms.

I like Mark. I thought he would be pretty good. Had a diverse amount of experience. Candidly, he is just mailing it in on the bench. Not researching issues. Shooting from the hip. A colossal disappointment. He is not clueless (like Hardy, Tierra or Escobar). He does not have to be lost on the Bench; he is lost because he chooses to be lost.
